Aqua, Chapter 5

The AquaKnife (JP: ターコナイフ Tāko Naifu) is a sword-type weapon in Chapter 5 of Deltarune. It parallels the Toy Knife from Undertale.

Acquisition

Like the other flower items, the AquaKnife can be purchased from Aqua for 100 F$ and 3 P$ in the room unlocked after defeating Pink.

Mechanics

The AquaKnife can be equipped to Kris. It gives +10 AT, +2 DF, and the Critical ability, which makes the box for landing a critical hit larger when FIGHTing. This turns hits that would normally be one frame too early for a perfect critical hit into perfect critical hits, increasing the damage multiplier from +20% to +50% and TP generated from 4% to 6%. Hits earlier than 1 frame too early or any amount of frames too late are completely unaffected.

Strategy

Despite being a Chapter 5 weapon for Kris, the AquaKnife has a far lower attack stat in comparison to the BlackShard, obtainable in Chapter 3.

When FIGHTing against a non-Dark-elemental enemy, the AquaKnife will deal marginally more damage compared to the BlackShard if the attack is landed exactly one frame too early from what would normally be a perfect critical hit. However, on any other frame the BlackShard will be better. As such, even for a player who finds it difficult to land critical hits consistently, the AquaKnife can provide no practical benefit over the BlackShard as landing hits on the exact frame where it would be better is no easier than landing a critical hit in the first place.

The AquaKnife may have value for players who have not obtained the BlackShard, as in that case it provides the greatest AT and DF out of any obtainable weapon. It may be valuable over other weapons in situations where AT is unimportant, as it provides 1 additional DF compared to the JingleBlade and BounceBlade without taking up an armor slot.

The Petal (JP: はなびら Hanabira) is acquired by leaving the Dark World with the AquaKnife equipped. Unlike most of Kris's other swords, it is not transformed into a type of stationery equipment after leaving the Dark World, instead being a cyan-colored flower petal (although no petals can be seen missing from the cyan flower in the Light World if it was obtained).
