Tenna, Chapter 3

Monster Movie (JP: カイジュウ映画) is an optional minigame accessible from Green Room's Arcade after playing the Desert Board in Chapter 3. Kris can pay a Pippins 500 POINTs to unlock the minigame. The poster and the minigame's name are not shown until it has been played at least once.

During Tenna's boss fight, he only chooses attacks based on this minigame if it has been played at least once.

Gameplay

Kris and Ralsei must move Susie, who hangs by a rope and dons her "Susiezilla" costume. The primary goal is for Susie to defend Tenna, who is painted gold and posing as a statue at the center of the city stage. She must do so by spinning into the Shadowguys that attack Tenna. This can be done by pressing the [CONFIRM] button.

Shadowguys come in three forms. They wear red bandanas on their hats, or wear hard hats:

• Regular Shadowguys, who spin at Tenna when up close.
• Shadowguys with guns that shoot "Tennas balls". These Shadowguys do not move.
• Shadowguys in bulldozers, who can only be hit from the sides and back, since contact with the front stuns Susie. They continuously attack Tenna once they reach him. Their appearance is indicated by an exclamation point and a car sound.

The minigame ends if Tenna's popularity meter is depleted or the party reaches 800 points.

There are four main phases to this minigame:

• Phase 1: Shadowguys and Shadowguys with guns appear.

Afterwards, a small bonus round takes place, in which destroying miniature houses restores Tenna's popularity meter. The houses are arranged in a circular pattern. A 50 points "perfect chain" bonus can be earned if Susie spins through them all at once. If Tenna has full popularity, the bonus round is skipped, and the party receives a 99 points "popularity bonus". The houses resemble the ones seen in Queen's Mansion.

• Phase 2: All three types of Shadowguys appear.

Afterwards, another bonus round takes place, with the houses arranged in a horizontal 8 pattern. The perfect chain and popularity bonus still apply.

• Phase 3: A "Spamcannon" appears on the left side of the board and starts charging a "big shot" to destroy Tenna. Attacking it resets its charge meter. If the charge reaches 100%, the Spamcannon fires a continuous laser beam that quickly destroys Tenna.

While this occurs, all variants of Shadowguys appear. The bulldozing Shadowguys only appear on the right side. Defeating the Spamcannon automatically defeats all other Shadowguys on screen.

Afterwards, the 99 point popularity bonus applies if Tenna's popularity is full. No houses appear if the popularity bonus was not achieved.

• Phase 4: Tenna exclaims that the party has won. However, a large number of regular Shadowguys (the exact number needed to reach 800 points) appear and continue to attack the TV statue. If the party defeats all Shadowguys and reaches 800 points before the TV statue is destroyed, the Annoying Dog swings into the statue on a wire, destroying it and ending the minigame.

Each phase is split further into various waves, where new Shadowguys only spawn after a specific number of Shadowguys from previous waves have been defeated.

During the game, a group of Shadowguys at the bottom of the screen follow the camera while holding various UI elements. From left to right, they display the total points earned, Tenna's dialogue box, and the popularity meter.

Creation and development

The programming for the Susiezilla minigame was done by AlexMdle.

This minigame was originally a part of the City Board, alongside the cowboy minigame, before the board was scrapped. It was meant to be played after completing the City Board, and after its completion, it would lead into the Doom Board. Tenna saying "final event" is a leftover of this.

The unused room_susiezilla is an early version of this minigame which featured different mechanics and had most of its sprites blanked out. The sprite names imply that it involved zombies, breakable buildings and cars.

The Spamcannon resembles a sketch of Spamton's head shared by Toby Fox on his Twitter on December 25, 2021.

The bulldozer sprite originally appeared in Undertale's Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S version, where the Annoying Dog uses it to clear away the Dog Shrine from the Nintendo Switch version to be replaced with the Dog Casino. The sprite later appeared in the ISSUE 5 - Winter 2024 Newsletter, where the 2024 Valentines sprite depicts Sans animated and bulldozing various gifts.

The Japanese version of the "Susiezilla" text

While most of Tenna's "funny text" is stylistically similar between the English and Japanese languages, the "Susiezilla" text is stylized entirely differently in Japanese. The Japanese version closely resembles the Japanese logo of the original 1954 Godzilla movie.

Trivia

• Around the end of the tutorial segment, Susie spins into Ralsei, which knocks him into the air and causes him to splat on top of Kris's head. After a few seconds, Ralsei poses on top of Kris's head.
