City Werewire, Chapter 2

Cyber City (JP: サイバーシティ) is an area within the Cyber World in Chapter 2 of Deltarune. It consists of a trash area, the city itself, and a mix of amusement park-themed areas. The party falls into the Trash Zone when the roller coaster's tracks from Cyber Field end. The area also houses the Egg room, where the Forgotten Man resides.

Main story

Kris, Susie, and Ralsei safely land on a giant mound of trash in the Trash Zone. Kris and Ralsei leave the mound while Susie stands atop it and laughs at her joke. However, the piece of garbage she was standing on falls, causing her to land painfully. Concerned, Ralsei offers to heal her. He does so despite Susie's protests, and she becomes interested in learning healing magic.

At the outskirts of the city, Ralsei notices a fork in the road. He suggests that the party should split up. Ralsei asks Kris who they would like to be paired up with, and Susie promptly pulls Ralsei north.

Kris navigates Cyber City on their own. They eventually find Noelle at the First Alleyway. When she hears Queen, she asks Kris to not let Queen find her. Queen arrives shortly after and notices their solo circumstance. She offers a truce due to not finding Noelle. Suddenly, Queen hears Berdly and hides in the same dead end as Noelle.

Berdly appears in search of Queen. He realizes Kris is in a similar situation as him and begrudgingly offers a truce. Berdly informs that he will be ahead, then departs. Relieved, Queen drops down and asks Kris to continue distracting Berdly and search for Noelle. She leaves shortly after. Noelle, in order to escape from Queen, forms a third truce with Kris and joins their party.

Kris and Noelle encounter a Virovirokun, who helps Kris teach her how to ACT and explain how encounters work.

As they venture further into the city, Kris and Noelle eventually find Queen. Noelle asks Kris to distract her. Kris approaches Queen, who is drinking all-ages appropriate pure battery acid. Queen appreciates Kris, and wonders why her methods as a villain are under appreciated.

During their truce, Queen offers to play the Arcade Machine with Kris again. However, it is destroyed by Berdly's golden statue. Berdly descends and praises the statue's design. Queen offers false praise in return. When she tells Berdly they should go, she pretends to leave, only to return to Kris. Queen apologizes and leaves by taking the previous path. As she departs, she praises Noelle's robot-faced cardboard, unaware of the latter's disguise.

After several mouse-based puzzles, Kris and Noelle encounter Berdly again. Berdly assumes Noelle is being forced by Kris to be in their party. Thus, he begins an encounter. After defeating Berdly, the party progresses through a street and Queen finds them again. Noelle wears her cardboard box, so Queen does not recognize her. After realizing Berdly is about to find her, she tells both of them to get in a car. After Berdly goes away, they get out and back in again. Queen then insists that Kris drives the car.

After a short drive, the car halts to a stop due to a dog-induced traffic jam. Queen tells Kris to press the walk button on the other side of the street. In the nearby side alley, Kris meets Spamton, who begins an encounter to strike a deal.

Once the traffic jam clears out, the ride in Queen's car continues. During the drive, Queen explains that she cares for Noelle. Shortly after, she tells them to evacuate the car, which explodes. Queen asks Kris to remind Noelle that she cares before departing.

In the next room, Kris and Noelle cooperate to progress through the various forcefields. At this time, Noelle reminisces about a childhood memory, where she, Kris, Asriel, and Dess once went exploring the forest behind the graveyard, and how she was scared during the whole adventure. After passing through the area, it is revealed the letters on switches Noelle stepped on formed the word "DECEMBER", hinting at Dess's full name.

Kris and Noelle arrive at a carnival with ball throwing games. Queen appears once more. Noelle hides behind one of the counters, and Queen manages to destroy all the kegs on that counter. Noelle gives her a prize, which is a gift box. Queen realizes she does not want the prize, sets it atop Kris's head and walks away.

Shortly after, Susie and Ralsei arrive, with Susie eagerly trying her UltimatHeal spell on Kris. Ralsei also notices the present atop Kris's head. Kris gives the prize to someone, and regardless of the choice, Noelle removes her disguise and joins the party.

The party arrives at Cyber City Heights, an area with more puzzles. Having passed that, they arrive in front of Queen's Mansion, where they encounter Queen once more. Queen threatens to submerge Berdly into the mansion's acid lake, forcing Noelle to come with her. However, Berdly then appears, revealing Queen's ruse. Queen initiates her Plan B and captures Susie, Kris, Berdly and Noelle with cages. Queen realizes she only has four cages, thus she enlists Ralsei as a butler.

Weird Route

The Weird Route begins when Kris meets up with Noelle in Cyber City. Kris orders Noelle to use her IceShock spell to freeze every enemy in place as they make their way back to the Trash Zone, where they stop in front of the door to Spamton's shop. Kris and Noelle then proceed to the area with the Ferris wheel poster while freezing over all encountered enemies. In that area, telling the only NPC that Kris and Noelle are "something else" and then insisting to get the FreezeRing is required to proceed on the route.

After getting the FreezeRing, the party is required to freeze more enemies. After backtracking to the dog dumpster area, Spamton can be interacted with in the dumpster, telling the party how many enemies are left to freeze or selling them the ThornRing if no more are required. After obtaining the ThornRing and equipping it to Noelle, Berdly is encountered. The battle ends when Noelle uses her SnowGrave spell to freeze Berdly solid. Noelle then leaves the party and goes north through an unblocked path. Kris can follow through the passage and reach the entrance to the mansion by going through a manhole, which the party can now regularly enter.

The Weird Route cannot be aborted after freezing Berdly until the Weird Route's continuation in Chapter 4.

Geography

Cyber City is a large, sprawling city with many narrow passageways. The party travels along the city's many roads and darkened alleyways. Many roads are congested with Electro-Dasher cars, which comprise some of the city's puzzles, and many such roads can often be seen in the background. Traffic cones sometimes block off certain passageways.

Floating above the ground are screens advertising various products as well as warning signs whenever traffic is nearby. Along the walls of the city are doors to residential areas and various rooftops bordering the passageways. Window panes and cat signs sometimes accompany these features.

Sublocations

Trash Zone

Trash Zone location.png
The Trash Zone, with a trash can containing a Dark Candy

The Trash Zone[1] features of garbage mounds, trash cans, and trash bags that are shaped like eggplants. Spamton's shop can be found at the far-left side of this area, which also has destroyed cars surrounding it. On console versions, the border is temporarily disabled in this area until Kris properly enters Cyber City.

Inspecting the trash can nearby the giant mound the party lands on contains a Dark Candy. However, doing so makes the AncientSweet unobtainable in Chapter 4.[2]

Trashy and Nubert also appear in this area. Trashy tries to offer Storage advice, although Susie is disinterested in listening.

After backtracking to this area using shortcut door, the party can find Poppup and Maus. Interacting with Trashy causes them to inform about Spamton looking for Kris, and the direction he went.

Entrance

At the Entrance[3] to the city, a "WELCOME TO THE CITY" flashing sign can be seen followed by a SAVE point. Susie and Ralsei can be seen walking in the background, and the letters on the sign light up as Kris walks by them.

First traffic puzzle

Cyber City location traffic lights.png
The traffic lights puzzle

In the next area, there are two traffic puzzles. A city Werewire is present at the beginning of the room, mentioning how the roller coaster is undergoing maintenance. After navigating the puzzles, Noelle is briefly seen walking to the east.

After the first two puzzles, two Swatchlings are seen cleaning up the next street for what they presume to be a parade.

First Alleyway

CD Bagel item Cyber City alley.png
Obtaining the CD Bagel near Poppup

The First Alleyway[4] contains two trash cans. The right trash can contains 20 Dark Dollars, and the left, guarded by a Poppup, contains a CD Bagel.

The end of this area contains a SAVE Point. Noelle, Queen and Berdly are encountered, and Noelle decides to travel with Kris.

If this area is returned to after the encounter, the Hacker can be found here, complaining about how a store did not want to accept his encrypted signature.

Annoying Mouse Room 1

After the encounter, Kris and Noelle find an Annoying Mouse Room puzzle. The puzzle can be skipped after telling Noelle to "Proceed" several times. When mice hit or pass by Noelle, she screams and jumps away. When this area is returned to after being solved, a block similar to that used by Rouxls Kaard can be seen invading the mouse puzzle.

First Addison district

Ralsei and Susie overworld cotton candy.gif

Having passed the puzzle, the party encounters a Virovirokun, and that encounter may be Noelle's first battle (if the party did not backtrack and fight previous enemies). In the same area, the party meets Addisons for the first time, and two Ambyu-Lances running around. To the north of this area, Susie and Ralsei can be seen eating cotton candy over cones that cannot be passed through. To the west of this area a chest with Pink Ribbon can be found.

Backtracking to this area using the shortcut door, the Addisons here can be talked to about Spamton, but they do not want to talk about him. After defeating Spamton NEO, all of the Addisons relocate to the Trash Zone instead. A lone Plugboy appears in their place, expressing disappointment at not being able to get ripped off.[5] In the area where Susie and Ralsei could be seen eating cotton candy, Susie suggests using the cones blocking the path for ice-cream.

Second traffic puzzle

To the east of the Addison district area are more traffic puzzles. At the end of the room, a city Werewire stands next to a Plugboy. The Plugboy mentions how the Cyber World's Darkners became much more agreeable after getting plugged, and the Werewire expresses their love for the city.

Ferris wheel poster

Cyber City location Ferris Wheel.png
The Ferris wheel poster

After more car puzzles, the party arrives to the area with a Ferris wheel poster where an Ambyu-Lance can be seen chasing a Virovirokun. To the north of it are Icon Man and their friend. The former asks the party about how to deal with existential dread for a friend, who looks exactly like them. To the east is an Addison selling dating shoes, and to the south is an alley with a forcefield which can only be passed if one of the party members is standing on the other side of it.

Queen's alleyway

Having passed the puzzle, the party enters an alleyway that veers to the east and ends in an open area. Queen and Berdly are encountered in the open area.

Music Shop

After the encounter, they find the Music Shop[6] in which Sweet Cap'n Cakes sell CD Bagels. When talked to, they can change the music in the area to Holiday Studio. When backtracking to this area, it is silent. A Plugboy appears instead saying how they came to support the rebels who are absent.

Second Addison district

Tea item.png
Obtaining a flavored Tea

After the Music Shop, the path of this room branches east and south. Either path leads to the last store. The east alley has a Werewire. The south leads to two Addisons selling wares. A blue Addison on the left offers free "small shoe" samples. The pink Addison on the right sells Tea that has names of characters currently in the party.

Further south is a Virovirokun guarding a chest that contains a BounceBlade. The east alley near the Tea shop also has a Werewire. At the last store, a yellow Addison is selling the Mannequin for $300.

After Spamton NEO is defeated, the Addisons relocate to the Trash Zone. A lone Virovirokun appears in front of the Mannequin store, saying they wanted to steal something before seeing how bad the items were and that they would feel ripped off regardless of whether or not they paid for the items.[7]

Third traffic puzzle

Going east with the yellow warning signs leads to another traffic puzzle.

Cyber City screenshot knockable door.png
The only knockable door in the city

To reach the dog dumpster, Kris can go south, enter the east alley, then go further south, where they can find an alley with yellow Annoying Dog signs leading west. On second to the right of the Annoying Dog signs is the only knockable door in the city. Knocking on it causes the person behind it to reveal it as their "pride and joy".

Dog dumpster

Kris initially gets transported alone to an area with no music, and the path heading east. Further down the path, an Annoying Dog in a toy car rams Kris's SOUL, rapidly depleting their HP. When their HP reaches 0, an Undertale-styled Game Over screen appears, which the dog hits with the car and squishes.

Cyber City location dog dumpster.png
The dog dumpster

After the scene, the party is transported in front of a dumpster with a pillow inside for the dog to sleep on.[8] A DogDollar also appears in Kris's inventory.

To the left of the dumpster, "[Moss]" can be found. Interacting with it once changes Kris's and either Noelle or Susie's title. With Noelle, she questions why Kris seems pleased. If Kris backtracks with Susie and Ralsei instead, Girl Next Door plays as Susie assumes Kris saved the moss to share. If this occurs, Susie obtains the "Moss Enjoyer" title, which can cause alternate dialogue to occur in TV World.

There is a tree design on the wall to the right of the dumpster. If inspected, the narration mentions that there is a "room between". This refers to the hidden room nearby. If Kris returns to this area, WELCOME TO THE CITY resets.

On the Weird Route, Spamton can be found here and, if enough enemies are frozen, he gives the party a ThornRing.

Hidden room

Cyber City location hidden room.png
The hidden room, which contains a lone tree

The hidden room is a secret room that can be accessed from the same place as the dog dumpster room. If the Annoying Dog cutscene has already played and the game is not on the Weird Route, there is a 2% chance[9] for Kris alone to end up in this room instead of the Annoying Dog room. Other party members remain in the party, but are not visible here.

The hidden room contains a lone tree, which shares the design with the ones in Chapter 1's Field. Inspecting the tree has the narration state that there is a man behind it. The Forgotten Man then offers an Egg to the party. Once taken or declined, the Forgotten Man ceases to exist there, and subsequent inspections reveal nothing but the tree. Exiting the area returns the party to where they came from. The area cannot be re-entered. This interaction transfers via Completion FILE.

While it is not possible to access this location on the Weird Route, it is possible to access after obtaining the ThornRing. Doing so requires aborting the Weird Route by sparing Berdly and backtracking. This allows for both the Egg and the ThornRing to be collected in the same file.

Annoying Mouse Room 2

Cyber City location Annoying Mouse Room 2.png
Annoying Mouse Room 2

The Annoying Mouse Room 2 has multiple directional blocks that must be moved. After making mice enter the right hole for the first time, the forcefield does not lift, so Noelle inspects the hole. Kris can then make mice exit the hole for the second time and scare Noelle, who jumps over the forcefield onto the switch which turns it off.

When backtracking to this area with the shortcut door, a "giant toilet-shaped toilet" made by Temmie Chang[10] blocks the way.

Cheese maze

After the Annoying Mouse Room 2, additional mouse puzzles follow. Kris discovers a single piece of cheese in a southern corner. Noelle questions if Kris will touch the cheese. If the cheese is touched, Maus attacks the party.

Following the single piece of cheese is the cheese maze,[11][12] which can cause Noelle to yell Kris's name. If Kris bumps into any of the cheese, Maice attack the party. After the encounter, the cheese maze crumbles. At the southwest section of the room is a chest that contains a CD Bagel.

Annoying Mouse Room 3

Cyber City location Annoying Mouse Room 3.png
Annoying Mouse Room 3

In Annoying Mouse Room 3, Kris and Noelle find they are unable to progress. They discover that this puzzle is similar to the previous Mouse Room. However, Noelle notices the platform she stands on falls after some time. She encourages Kris to keep solving each segmented puzzle by making her jump and land on the next platform. If the platform Noelle stands on falls down, she is brought back up by a pile of Maice, and the puzzle continues.

While Kris is working on solving the puzzle, Berdly walks in and jeers at Kris, claiming that Noelle is "powerless" without him.[13] However, he is oblivious that Noelle is nearby. Once "ILOVEMOUSE" is spelled, the puzzle is solved. Angered, Berdly attempts to take credit for solving the puzzle before leaving. Noelle also claims that she is no longer fearful of mice.

Trash street

CD Bagel item Cyber City trash street.png
The trash can that has a CD Bagel flag

After the mouse puzzles, the party encounters a room with many trash cans holding $100 and a CD Bagel, with Poppup and Maus disguised as one trash can. Collecting the CD Bagel transfers to Chapter 4 via Completion FILE, and causes AncientSweet to be unobtainable.[14]

Second Alleyway

The Second Alleyway[15] is a small room with two exits to the north and east. The northern exit is normally blocked off by traffic cones, leaving the eastern exit as the only way forward. Berdly blocks the way to the east and engages Kris and Noelle in battle. After the battle, a SAVE Point appears in front of the traffic cones.

The northern exit is only available on the Weird Route after freezing Berdly, while Berdly's body blocks the eastern exit. The alleyway continues to the north, where it becomes a long, horizontal hallway leading to a manhole at the end. This manhole transports Kris to the entrance of Queen's Mansion.

Car ride

Cool Mixtape soundtrack.png
Driving, as Cool Mixtape plays

This room is a long road filled with Electro-Dashers going west of the road, and towards the car Kris drives. As Kris drives Queen's car, they have the option of ramming into the Electro-Dashers, or avoiding them. Either option transfers via Completion FILE.

Kris also has a choice of obeying Queen's suggestion and collecting the "Potassium". Otherwise, if Kris does not collect the banana, Queen states that Kris may become ill.[17]

Spamton's dumpster

NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A soundtrack.png
Kris fighting Spamton, as NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A plays

After halting the car to a stop, Kris visits a side alley. Kris can inspect the various Queen posters on the wall, which all prompts different inspections. Spamton appears out of the dumpster and offers to a deal to Kris. After the encounter, Spamton insists that Kris should find his Trash Zone shop to continue their deal. Kris can also inspect the torn Queen poster, which is overlaying one of Spamton's posters.[18]

DECEMBER puzzle

After Kris presses the walk button on the other side, the car ride continues on a bridge until the car explodes, and Kris and Noelle move forward to the "DECEMBER" forcefield puzzle.

Ball-toss stalls

Party screenshot Berdly Starwalker.png
The party at the ball-toss stalls, with Berdly and Starwalker following

In the ball-toss stalls room, Noelle uses her cardboard box and hides at a ball throwing stall. When Queen arrives and hits all the bottles. Noelle gives Queen the prize. Queen realizes she does not want this, and puts the gift on Kris's head. Susie and Ralsei arrive, and Kris has the option of giving the prize to anyone in the room. This option transfers via Completion FILE.

  • Selecting Noelle makes her realize Kris has not given her a gift since childhood.[19] However, without opening the gift, Noelle realizes it is the same plush she gave to Queen. Angered, she gets rid of her box and the prize, and assumes Kris wanted a refund.[20]
  • Selecting Ralsei prompts him to express his gratitude for his first gift, yet also note that he's speechless.[21] He offers to win a prize for Kris in return. However, he tosses the ball at Noelle, which causes her box to come off. In Chapter 4, the gift is a Ralsei plush, which can be seen in Ralsei's room.
  • Selecting Susie causes her to assume that Kris stole it than win the ball toss game.[22] Not wanting to be outdone, Susie decides to steal Noelle's box for Kris. She instead becomes impressed by the cardboard. After sealing the library Fountain, a Susie plush can be seen in Susie's room. Susie questions how Kris got it, and becomes possessive of it.
  • Selecting Berdly causes him to appear. He becomes angered that Kris is already with Susie again.[23] Kris puts the gift atop Berdly's head, which reveals a Berdly plush. It has orange shorts and visible nipples. Everyone expresses disbelief after Berdly leaves. Once Noelle joins the line, Berdly appears and exclaims he will follow for this room only.

After any of these options, if Kris has found Starwalker in Chapter 1, Starwalker also joins at the back of the party line.

Kris can also attempt to backtrack for Susie and Ralsei or Noelle's commentary. If Kris inspects the stall Noelle hides in, Susie questions about the cardboard box, then asks Noelle to make another one.[24]

Heights

Nothing item balloons.png
Opening the "treasure of air" chest at the Heights

The Heights[25] area after the carnival requires the party to climb very long stairs instead of taking a teacup ride, as the teacup ride has only three seats. After climbing, Noelle volunteers to stand on a switch that disables a forcefield and temporarily leaves the party. To the right of that switch is another switch guarded by two Ambyu-Lances. When stepping on it, another forcefield is lifted and Noelle rejoins the party.

A sign nearby tells the party three of them must ride in a single teacup in order to unlock an optional chest behind another forcefield. However, the chest only contains balloons. If Noelle was not present in the party during the teacup ride, she asks why the other three were riding a teacup together.

Fireworks

Beyond the forcefield there is an area where fireworks in the sky cause bullets that can hit the party to appear. One of the fireworks before the bullet area also creates leftovers in the sky shaped like Kris's, Susie's and Ralsei's battle icons. After avoiding the bullets, the party can no longer return to the previous room, as it is guarded by a forcefield.

Further east, there are switches which activate forcefields in the sky, popping balloons located between these forcefields. One of the balloons contains cheese, starting a battle with three Maice. After the battle, Susie realizes Noelle left the party to watch the fireworks, when she catches up.

Mouse bucket puzzle

Following the fireworks area are mouse bucket puzzles. Solving them unlocks the way to the entrance to Queen's Mansion.

Queen's Mansion Entrance

After this area, the party arrives in front of Queen's Mansion, where Queen captures them. On the Weird Route, Noelle is absent from the party due to the fight against Berdly, and the mansion is entered through the front door.

Trivia

  • The recurring theme of traffic is likely a reference to a famous nickname for the Internet in the 1990s: "the information superhighway".
  • Kris touching the cheese may be a reference to the Cheese Touch joke in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise.
  • The narration flavor text for the giant toilet[26] is similar to an EarthBound narration flavor text when checking the pencil statue: "(For some weird reason, a pencil-shaped iron statue is blocking the path.)".
