KeyGen (JP: キー生成キ, romanized as Kī Seiseiki) is a Key Item in Chapter 2. It is required to complete Spamton's deal and enter the Basement of Queen's Mansion. It is bought from Spamton's shop in the Trash Zone for a randomized per second D$ price. It can have a much higher price deviation than the other items sold there. It cannot be obtained in the Weird Route due to Spamton's shop being inaccessible.
The price for KeyGen changes twice every second, with the highest-possible value being 49030 D$, and the lowest being 0 D$. Each time the player enters the shop, and opens the buy menu for the first time the price will start at 100 D$. On every tenth change the value of the KeyGen will be a random value between 0 - 60 D$, making it much easier to purchase.
After buying KeyGen and choosing "OUR DEAL", the KEYGEN track plays, Spamton's face changes colors, and the response is simply "KEYGEN".
- Spamton's face changing colors is likely a reference to "[YTP] The King Downloads Sony Vegas", a YouTube Poop by Moto200Alt. In the video, King Harkinian from Link: The Faces of Evil runs a keygen for Sony Vegas, at which point he begins rapidly flashing colours (albeit much more violently than Spamton). The Deltarune track KEYGEN sounds similar to the opening seconds of "Unreal Superhero 3" by Kenet & Rez, the keygen music that plays in the background of the YTP.
KeyGen sold in Spamton's shop
- KeyGen is based on software key-generators, usually found in the warez scene among illegal software distributors. The track that plays when speaking to Spamton more than once about the KeyGen is also referential to the style of music that was composed for these programs.
- When the lock is inspected, the text is "(Kris used the KEYGEN.)" and the item is instantly used without a prompt.
- If one counts the KeyGen's highest possible price it can randomly fluctuate to, it is the most expensive item in the game. This does not count the prices of the FreezeRing or JusticeAxe, which are not truly purchasable.
