Lancer (item)
Hohoho! I'm a tough boy! Treat me like one of your ITEMS!
Lancer's tooltip, Chapter 2
Lancer (JP: ランサー) is a Key Item introduced in Chapter 2 of Deltarune. After Kris leaves Castle Town in Chapter 2, Lancer gets included in the Cards key item while in the Light World. After entering the Cyber World, Lancer can be accessed through the inventory in various rooms, and his comments vary depending on the current room.
Lancer makes a cartoon splat noise when interacted with in the inventory, a noise associated with him in other Chapters. After 30 seconds of not being interacted with, he falls asleep. He continues to sleep until the inventory is closed and reopened.
In Chapter 3, Lancer can be obtained from the ball machine, but he disappears upon exiting the room. This can be repeated.
- In Queen's Mansion, Lancer can be selected from the inventory to break the party free from their cells. He does this by performing a "dozens and dozens of shovels attack" on the computer in Kris's room.
- Hohoho! ROUXLS jumped out of your pocket! How dadcrobatic! (Lesser) [After first entering the Cyber World]
- Hohoho! That game looked fun! Let me be the stool next! [After playing the arcade game with Queen]
- Sounded like milk out there. Splat! Were you three osmosing without me!? [After the Sweet Cap'n Cakes fight]
- We fell! But don't worry. I'm a strong boy. I won't be trounced by a mere bounce! [After falling into the Trash Zone]
- Split up? We'll solve this mystery fast! You? You can be the un-talking dog. [After splitting up from Susie and Ralsei to explore Cyber City]
- Ho-ho! A soft cream is following you! Can we make them a bad guy? [After Noelle joins the party]
- That golden statue... Could it be... The illusory nipple technique!? [After seeing Berdly's golden statue]
- Wow! Thanks for the free sample! I couldn't eat another bite!! [After buying free sample shoes in Cyber shoes II]
- The bluebird of crappiness. Fly high, bluebird. Fly high. [After Berdly's second fight]
- Did I miss something? I was doing my calisthetics. Stay handsome. [After Spamton's fight]
- Hey! Thanks for the tape! I was hungry! Push my tummy to hear a cool song! [After obtaining Queen's Mixtape. Using Lancer now plays a snippet of the mixtape instead of a splat noise]
- Hoho! It's me, Lancer! Release me and I will release you! [While trapped in a cell in Queen's Mansion]
- (Innocent boys are fast asleep.) [Weird Route: After reaching Stage 2. Lancer's sprite now shows him sleeping.]
- A stone statue. Strangely, it looks like Lancer... [Weird Route: After entering Queen's Mansion. Lancer's sprite now shows him frozen in stone, and using him plays the same noise as when he visibly turns into a statue.]
- Hoho! What a terrific boy's adventure. Time to kick off my feet and relax... [After re-entering Castle Town]
- Oo la la! Who is that handsome mustachioed boy! I think I'm in love! [While inside the Top Bakery with Chef Lancer]
- (huff, puff) There, I got back into your pocket! Now you can use my power! [While in the same room as Lancer in Castle Town]
- Ho ho ho! Enjoy my prescence for a single room! [Ball machine]
- The best thing about me is that I'm the only one! [Two or more Lancers in inventory; obsolete with a game update]
- Obtaining Lancer at Castle Town
- Obtaining a Lancer from the ball machine
- Many of Lancer's descriptions in the inventory are or could be references to various things;
- Lancer's item description when he first joins Kris's inventory, "Hohoho! I'm a tough boy! Treat me like one of your ITEMs!", is a direct reference to a line of dialogue in MOTHER 2 / EarthBound, where, while receiving the Exit Mouse from its mother, she tells Ness, "He is a tough boy. You can treat him as one of your items."
- When the group splits up in Chapter 2, he states, "We'll solve this mystery fast! You? You can be the un-talking dog.", referencing the Scooby-Doo series.
- His second dialogue in Chapter 3 may reference Tigger's statement, "But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is I'm the only one", from across the Winnie the Pooh franchise.
- After Noelle joins the party in Chapter 2, Lancer asks, "Can we make them a bad guy?" This line may be an allusion to the Weird Route.
- Lancer's "dozens and dozens of shovels attack" is an allusion to a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service). Similar to in game, a DDoS involves overwhelming a server to cause disruption.
- The word "dadcrobatic" featured in one of his dialogues is a portmanteau of "dad" and "acrobatic".

| Deltarune Chapter 3 | v1.02 | Fixed an issue in which arbitrarily many copies of Lancer received from the ball machine persisted indefinitely when leaving the room. This caused issues when receiving important key items, such as the Egg and the Shadow Crystal. |
