Pipis (item)

From Deltarune Wiki

It's a shame, who knew Tenna was into this stuff?

Crowd of Zappers and Shadowguys, Chapter 3

Pipis (JP: ピピス) is a consumable in Chapter 3 of Deltarune. It can only be used on Kris in the overworld, and it restores 100 HP.

It appears when inspecting the blue drawer in TV World's Bonus Zone. It is obtainable without a Completion FILE.

If a Chapter 2 Completion FILE is being used, it is obtainable from either criteria:

Otherwise, Tenna hides the Pipis from the party.

Additional uses

If the Pipis is kept in the inventory, it occasionally produces a noise depending on how long it has been kept, and its second line of flavor text changes:

  • In 15 minutes, it occasionally produces a garbled "tweeting" sound effect.
  • After another 15 minutes pass, the sound becomes a lower-pitched garbled "clucking" sound.

These noises occur more frequently in the Z-rank changing room.[1] The Pipis can be placed in the Storage to not cause noise in the overworld.

The Pipis noises are actually a single-note brass instrument sound effect that has its pitch rapidly randomized while the Pipis is in the inventory.

Flavor text

  • Hell no. [When trying to use it on Susie]
  • Is... that, um, nutritious? [When trying to use it on Ralsei]
  • C... Can we keep it? [When trying to use it on Noelle; unused]
  • Huh? [Susie, when using it on Kris]
  • Where'd it go? [Ralsei, when using it on Kris]
  • Kris! (I wanted that...) [Noelle, when using it on Kris; unused]

Creation and development

In the 2022 Spamton Sweepstakes charity event, the rotating banner, deltarune.com/secret/ alludes to finding the Pipis in Chapter 3. From the URL, a Pipis can be found when clicking on the seventh blue drawer, and the tab becomes "You Lost!" with the crowd gasping in shock.

Trivia

  • The Pipis making noises after being held for some time is a reference to the Fresh Egg, Chick, and Chicken items from MOTHER 2 / EarthBound and Mother 3. The Fresh Egg hatches into a Chick after it is kept in the inventory for several minutes, which grows into a Chicken. The Chick and Chicken items make noises while kept in the inventory, much like the Pipis.
  • The description could be a reference to Toadstool's ??? from Super Mario RPG (known as "Peach's ???" in the remake), which is a private item of Princess Peach found in her room.
  • Noelle's dialogue may be a reference to deltarune.com/bluecircle/, where she ends up owning a Pipis like pet in Cat Petterz 2, only to delete it and every other pet when it could not stop multiplying.
  • If Kris attempts to pick up the Pipis while their inventory is full, the game mentions that there is not enough room for the item, followed by Susie and Ralsei saying "Good" in unison.[2]
  • The Pipis is able to be used on Flowery while he is in the party. Uniquely, he does not react to it with a line like he does for other consumables.
