Miss Mizzle
Nay, for love is made of eggshells,
And should your love be true, you would already know what lies inside.Miss Mizzle, Chapter 4
Miss Mizzle (JP: ミス・ミズル) is a Darkner in Chapter 4 of Deltarune, where she is encountered as a miniboss in the Dark Sanctuary. She is a larger Mizzle that resides in the HolywaterCooler (JP: ホーリーウォータークーラー) for the first phase of her battle. She can be found in the northwest of the room with the darkening lanterns and circling black-and-white overworld bullets, by using the ClaimbClaws on a ledge of books towards the left of the room.
As the HolywaterCooler, she appears as an inanimate water cooler. Its base is gray with one red button and one blue button. It has a cup dispenser on its side. On top of the HolywaterCooler is a large jug of blue water. HolywaterCooler's sprite is identical to the Watercoolers found in Chapter 3 and at the start of Hotland in Undertale.
Miss Mizzle's true form appears very similarly to a Mizzle, but much larger. Her dress is made of long, flowing water, and she lacks the two pointed caps that Mizzles do, also lacking visible legs. Her face is longer, and her eyes larger. Her arms are cast backwards to flow in the direction of her dress, and her hair flows back freely, also made of flowing water. When at 100% MERCY, she turns pink with her eye raising slightly.
In contrast to an ordinary Mizzle, Miss Mizzle is quite haughty and speaks in flowery language, believing herself to be some kind of divinity despite lacking the HOLY element. She lacks as clear a propensity for whimsy as an ordinary Mizzle, but is still able to be tired out, and still turns pink after filling her SPARE meter to 100%, implying she is not entirely different from her kin in personality. She is quite sentimental and a romantic, seen when Kris flirts with her (when selecting "First time") as she speaks of storing the concept of affection away for a lonelier night. She believes love is something sacred as well, accosting Kris if they tell her "I flirt with everyone". She also seems very hurt when believing Lanino has betrayed his partner when the two are sat together at the Cafe in Castle Town.[3]
She enjoys being revered, but wishes for that worship to be worthwhile and meaningful, seen in how she discourages admiration of solely her beauty, finding it vainglorious. This is also shown when using the BegForMercy ACT multiple times, where she will first like that the party is willing to humble themselves to her, but finds repeated attempts disgusting as the gesture loses sincerity and meaning. Interestingly, Miss Mizzle boasts of her beauty primarily as the HolywaterCooler, regarding her beauty within it as entirely objective. She seems to regard her form as a Mizzle in less favorable terms, calling it a "terrible state" (though this could refer to battle damage done to the HolywaterCooler instead) and noting it will make her "seem as the others". As such, it can be inferred that Miss Mizzle might prefer her form as the HolywaterCooler and find it more attractive. Despite claiming divinity/royalty, she notes she has relatively few followers when Chatting about Recruits with her.
Miss Mizzle shares her etymology with the regular Mizzle.
"Mizzle" is possibly derived from the Japanese word 水 (mizu, "water"). Alternatively, it may come from "mizzle", meaning "light rain", mainly used in Scottish English. It might also be a portmanteau of "missal" (a prayer book for Mass) and "drizzle" (a light rain).
Miss Mizzle is encountered in a room accessed via the ClaimbClaws in the leftmost part of the Dark Sanctuary. Following a climbing puzzle, the heroes come across a large vat of water that blocks a doorway, which is unable to be moved. Backtracking has the HolywaterCooler speed into the party, initiating a battle. Once the HolywaterCooler is brought to ≥60% MERCY or suffers 4 turns of battle damage without her health being depleted, she experiences a change in form, showing herself as Miss Mizzle. This allows the party to RECRUIT her if her MERCY is filled. Her dialogue once released from within the HolywaterCooler is much shorter and brief, with her likely having deemed the party as worthy of her presence. Ending the encounter shows 4 of 12 notes needed to be played on the Golden Piano to access the magic axe, though they need not be accessed if one already knows what to play.
Miss Mizzle is present in the stack of Darkners who save Jackenstein and the party from falling in the 3rd Sanctuary if she is RECRUITed.
- As HolywaterCooler
HolywaterCooler uses 1 attack with 3 variants, being compositionally identical to the Watercoolers from Chapter 3. HolywaterCooler will loop the second and third attacks on even and odd (except for the first) turn until she reaches ≥60% MERCY, upon which she'll transform into Miss Mizzle.
Rain: Water droplets surround the bullet board, moving towards the center forming a pool which increases in size as more droplets land.
- The second variant has the pool wobble left to right. The wobble also drags the movement of the bullets, giving the impression that they accelerate at slightly more irregular rates.
- In the third variant, the droplets will approach in a spiral like path, arcing towards the pool with rapidly changing direction and speed.
To dodge these attacks, one method involves staying close to the rim of the bullet board, and moving clockwise (or counterclockwise) with the bullets; certain angles will have more droplets close together, disincentivizing staying still. For the second variant, movement should be carefully considered due to the sway blocking off vertical movement at times. For the third, occasional stops or retracing of one's steps will help due to the spiraling movement of the droplets and the changes in velocity making a simple looping motion less viable.
- As Miss Mizzle
Miss Mizzle only uses one attack, reminiscent of one seen when fighting Mizzles.
Aqua Ring: This attack sends rings of water droplets with small cut outs towards the center of the bullet board quickly. The droplets curve inwards as they approach the center, causing the rings (and their cutouts) to rotate slightly, moving either left of right.
To dodge this attack, one method is to stay close to the center of the bullet board. Move towards the center of the ring's cutout as it approaches the center, and then fall back towards the center of the bullet board and repeat. Tight, deliberate motions are ideal to gather lots of TP via grazing many of the bullets in the ring. It is ideal to go to the center to where the water coalesces as one weaves in and out of the rings, as it lacks a hitbox once the droplets lose their shape, and allows one to reset their position for the next ring.
ACTs in the fight against HolywaterCooler are much less static than many other encounters in the game, as what choices and the number of times they are made will determine the amount of MERCY gained from actions. HolywaterCooler prefers actions that show loyalty and earnestness above all else, and this reflects in the MERCY percentages from each ACT. HolywaterCooler transforms into Miss Mizzle at ≥60% MERCY, skipping her turn as HolywaterCooler and taking it as Miss Mizzle.
- Flirt increases MERCY by a variable amount:
- On the first attempt, various routes are presented:
- If Kris has not flirted with the second Watercooler enemy, or has talked to the third Curtain NPC[note 1] from Chapter 3 after doing so, two choices are given:
- If the player selects "First time", it grants 20% MERCY.
- If the player selects "I flirt with everyone", it instead grants 5% MERCY.
- If Kris has flirted with the second WaterCooler enemy encountered in the larger TV World, and has not talked to the third Curtain NPC[note 1] from Chapter 3 after doing so, it grants 5% MERCY.
- If Kris has not flirted with the second Watercooler enemy, or has talked to the third Curtain NPC[note 1] from Chapter 3 after doing so, two choices are given:
- On the second attempt, it grants 10% MERCY, regardless of what was chosen.
- If having Flirted with the second Watercooler without chatting to the third Curtain NPC after, it instead grants 5% MERCY.
- On the third attempt, it grants 5% MERCY.
- If having Flirted with the second Watercooler without chatting to the third Curtain NPC after, it instead grants no MERCY, and continues to do so from here.
- On the fourth attempt onwards, it does not grant MERCY at all.
- On the first attempt, various routes are presented:
- BegForMercy increases MERCY by a variable amount:
- On the first and second attempt, it increases MERCY by 10% and heals the party for 50 HP. It also skips HolywaterCooler's turn, allowing for 20% free MERCY to be accrued anytime in the fight.
- On the third attempt, it grants 5% MERCY.
- On the fourth attempt onwards, it does not grant MERCY at all.
- Chat increases MERCY by a variable amount:
- The first attempt grants no MERCY.
- The second attempt grants you a choice of 4 topics:
- "Cactuses are better" grants 5% MERCY.
- "Recruit", "Flowers", and "Beauty" grant 15% MERCY.
- The third attempt grants 12% MERCY.
- From the fourth attempt onwards, it grants no MERCY.
- R-Action, S-Action, and SPARING prematurely grant 4% MERCY.
HolywaterCooler can hit the ≥60% MERCY threshold in as low 3 turns by using sets of these ACTs together, however this only works if Kris has not flirted with the second Watercooler (without talking to the third Curtain NPC after) prior. Listed below are optimal sparing routes. Other combinations of acts are possible, but the former avoids the ability for HolywaterCooler to attack entirely (though it will incur an attack from Miss Mizzle upon transformation), whilst minimizing the turns HolywaterCooler is on the field for the latter:
- Have not Flirted with the second Watercooler, or talked to the third Curtain NPC after Flirting: BegForMercy, S&R Action (18%) -> BegForMercy, S&R Action (18%) -> Firsttime Flirt, S&R Action (28%)
- Have Flirted with the second Watercooler, and have not talked to the third Curtain NPC after: Flirt, S&R Action (13%) -> BegForMercy, S&R Action (18%) -> BegForMercy, S&R Action (18%) -> Repeated Flirt, S&R Action (13%)
If preferring to use a different combination of ACTs, Chatting is ill-advised due to its turn of investment, as is selecting "I flirt with everyone" due to the high MERCY granted by the option it locks the player out of using. Additionally, the Silver Watch is an item highly beneficial in this combat due to its high projectile count, and how HolywaterCooler's attacks become progressively harder to dodge due to the water pooling in the center.
If choosing to fight the HolywaterCooler violently, the form change to Miss Mizzle can be skipped entirely if one does enough damage to reduce her HP to 0 before she transforms. The transformation occurs after 4 turns where at least 1 party member does damage, meaning the transformation turns can be staggered. This allows the encounter to end much more quickly than being pacifistic. The high amount of projectiles makes the TensionBow and LodeStone especially useful here, as to allow easy access to Susie's Rude Buster and allow Kris and Ralsei to attack more frequently without DEFENDing to charge TP.
The HolywaterCooler cannot become TIRED by dealing damage to it, unlike a Watercooler.
Once the HolywaterCooler reaches ≥60% MERCY, she transforms into Miss Mizzle. This second phase is a stronger version of the Mizzle encounter, featuring similar ACTs, and retaining the accrued MERCY from HolywaterCooler.
- Dazzle, Nuzzle, and Embezzle grant 8% MERCY.
- Dazzle does not grant extra MERCY, nor does it AWAKE Miss Mizzle if used while she is TIRED, unlike in the fight against ordinary Mizzles.
- Nuzzle also makes Miss Mizzle "a little tired", inflicting TIRED upon its second use, as opposed to its first like when encountering Mizzles.
- Embezzle provides a BitterTear 36 out of 101 times, and in the other 65 times it provides nothing at all. Only one BitterTear can be stolen, after which, the ACT fails, although MERCY is still accrued. It does not tire Miss Mizzle out, unlike the ACT in encounters against Mizzles.
- S-Action and R-Action, and premature SPARING grant 4% MERCY.
Unlike in the regular Mizzle encounter, Nuzzle is a fairly viable SPARE method. It only requires three turns, including the turn where Ralsei casts Pacify. Even from the lowest MERCY Miss Mizzle can have after emerging from the HolywaterCooler, two turns of 16% MERCY obtained by Dazzle + S&R Action, and a singular Dazzle into SPARE on the third matches Nuzzle's turn count, without the TP cost.
Though using only Nuzzle is a suitable way to end the encounter with Miss Mizzle, it does not allow the player to obtain the BitterTear from Embezzling, a highly valuable item that heals a party member to full HP unconditionally. If going for the BitterTear, SPARING Miss Mizzle has an turn count equal or lower than using Nuzzle to Pacify after Embezzling. This depends on the amount of MERCY you enter into the encounter with, and the amount of turns it takes to successfully steal the item, generally tending towards taking less turns than an equal amount.
If one is unable to take down the HolywaterCooler before it transforms into Miss Mizzle, the high bullet density of Miss Mizzle's patterns make the same items and strategies applicable to her should one choose to FIGHT.
Miss Mizzle will not become TIRED if brought to low HP.

- Wipe your mouth before you speak with one as I,
- For your phrases, soggy with experience,
- Dribble like shiny oil from your lips.
- [If Kris has not Flirted with the second Watercooler enemy prior, or has done so whilst having talked to the third Curtain NPC after]
- Young soldier, your words are sweet like honeydew. Is it the first time you have spoken to a lady such as I?
- [First time]
- A young knight's first love...
- No wellspring may be so pure.
- I shall accept your affection from afar,

- But, should you behave with quiet dedication,
- There may be some use for you yet. Impress me!
- [Beauty, if Flirt hasn't been chosen twice or more]
- Remember me not as a vainglory,
- Though my face, shining back both sun and moon is brighter and more holy than all stars,
- And as such, my beauty is more of an objective science, that cannot be denied.
- Well said.

- But instead a bitter poison, of gnashing teeth and regret.
- [Turn 2]
- What? You treat me like an egg, that you should break me,

- One of the battle narrations describes HolywaterCooler as "babbling sesquipedalianarily". The latter word is derived from Latin and literally means "foot and a half long", but evolved to (often mockingly) describe something characterized by long words or syllables.[5] This fits HolywaterCooler's speech patterns and lampshades the line's verbosity.
- Miss Mizzle only has a single line of dialogue in her form as a Mizzle, contrasting the various lines the Mizzles can say. This inversion in speech patterns can be seen when comparing the HolywaterCooler and Watercooler as well; the former boasts a very large vocabulary, while the latter only speaks in bubbling noises.
- When changing form from the HolywaterCooler, if one chooses to use violence, Miss Mizzle will lament that she will "seem as the others", despite the HolywaterCooler looking exactly as the other Watercoolers, and Miss Mizzle looking dramatically different from the average Mizzle.
- The relationship between Miss Mizzle and the Mizzles seems strained, but only one-sidedly. While Miss Mizzle seems eager to take on an apprentice (likely due to her having few followers), the Mizzle sat with her will quietly lament the proximity to her.[6]
- In the side quest to obtain the JusticeAxe, the encounter with Miss Mizzle can be skipped if the player memorizes the note segment.
- In relation to the Mizzles, people often associate Miss Mizzle with the Pokemon Primarina.
- 1 2 This is likely due to a bug. The flag that is checked by Miss Mizzle is also checked by this Curtain NPC with 4 settings. 0 is set from not having encountered the second Watercooler, 1 is set from flirting with the second cooler, 2 is set from not flirting with the second cooler, and 3 is set from having talked to the Curtain NPC after flirting. All flags serve to dictate its dialogue when talked to. The flag was likely reused for Miss Mizzle due to them both needing to check if Watercoolers have been flirted with, and only checks if it is set to 1. However, the flag does not check if the Watercooler in the C-rank room has been flirted with. Therefore, talking to this NPC is like not having flirted with a Watercooler at all, regardless of if Kris has done it before, due to it not including 3 in the same check as 1.
