Ribbick

From Deltarune Wiki

Sizzy snuzz, what's the buzz?

Ribbick, Chapter 3

Ribbick (JP: フロック Furokku) is a Darkner enemy encountered in Chapter 3 of Deltarune. It is a frog-like creature based on Rabbick who appears in the backrooms of the TV set, spilling out of trash cans to ambush the party.

Profile

Appearance

Ribbick resembles a pale green frog head with two whiskers on each side of its head. Its four eyes are normally closed, but when encountered and during the CroakOn ACT, its eyes bulge out. If it becomes sparable through the CroakOn ACT, it shrinks greatly.

Like Rabbick, it is also a dust-based enemy, but more dirty.

Personality

Ribbicks like to be dirty, as opposed to Rabbicks, who enjoy being clean.

Etymology

"Ribbick" is a portmanteau of "ribbit" and "ick", while also being a play on "Rabbick".

Its Japanese name,「フロック」(Furokku), is a play on the English "frog" and 「ラビック」(Rabikku, "Rabbick").

Main story

Chapter 3

A Ribbick as seen in the couch cliffs

Although their faces cannot be fully seen at first, silhouettes of Ribbick are present wandering around in the black void in the couch cliffs.

Ribbick can be first encountered in the greater TV World, in the central garbage can after the first Stealth Zone. Another two Ribbicks are found in the first trash can of the trash maze following the next Stealth Zone. If Ribbick was not LOST, a Ribbick NPC stands next to Serious Trashy behind the area with working Shadowguys, admiring Serious Trashy's serious vibes.

Ribbicks are an integral part of the path taken to get Chapter 3's Egg. After getting the TripTicket, the X in "CroakOnX" turns red. When hovering over this ACT, the player gains the ability to move the SOUL to the left and escape the battle, entering Mancountry. The animation used when escaping the battle this way (the SOUL gaining legs and the flavor text "Escaped..." appearing) is a direct reference to the "Flee" option from Undertale, which uses the same animation.

Chapter 4

If recruited, a Ribbick can be seen in Castle Town, next to a Zapper participating in a cleaning contest against a Swatchling. The Ribbick is supporting the Zapper out of fear,[2] while a Rabbick is cheering for the Swatchling.

In battle

Appears with

  • Two Ribbicks
  • Disguised Rabbick (after recruiting Ribbick)

Attacks

Ribbick's attacks are very similar, if not outright identical, to the attacks of Final Froggit from Undertale.

  • Jump: Two frogs appear on the bullet board, hopping between the top and bottom walls.
  • Fly: Ribbick sends a swarm of homing flies towards the SOUL. If a frog from the Jump attack touches a fly, it disappears.
  • Bounce: Rabbick's wave attack. Only used if a Rabbick was revealed.

Available ACTs

CroakOn

Mercy by mashing

The player is prompted to press [MENU] repeatedly to blow dirt within a time limit. If successful, this increases the targeted Ribbick's MERCY by 64%. If 100% MERCY is gained through this ACT, the Ribbick becomes small. Using this ACT on a Ribbick with 100% MERCY instantly spares it.

ACT performed with RalseiCroakOnX

Targets all by mashing

The player is prompted to press [MENU] repeatedly to blow dirt within a time limit. If successful, this increases all Ribbicks' MERCY by 64%. If 100% MERCY is gained through this ACT, the Ribbicks become small. Using this ACT on any Ribbicks with 100% MERCY instantly spares them.

S-Action

50% Mercy

Increases MERCY by 50%.

R-Action

25% and Tired

Increases MERCY by 25% and inflicts TIRED. TIRED is only inflicted on the second frame of the action. However, if the text is skipped frame perfectly, it is possible to end the action on the first frame, causing the Ribbick to not actually become TIRED. (The 25% mercy occurs on the first frame, and as such does not get skipped.)

Strategy

In addition to ACTs, several other conditions allow for Ribbick to be spared:

  • Sparing (when its name is not yellow) increases MERCY by 10% for one Ribbick.
  • When Rabbick is revealed, using BreathAll with Ralsei increases Ribbick's MERCY by up to 64%.

One Ribbick in the dark maze with several trash cans is a disguised Rabbick when encountering them after Ribbick has been recruited. This is hinted by slightly different quotes and can be revealed by making them sparable using CroakOn. After the reveal, the Rabbick uses Rabbick's bullet patterns and text. Making a Rabbick flee, whether disguised or not, loses the Rabbick recruit, but not the Ribbick recruit.

Trivia

  • In some unused battles, Ribbick can appear with Shadowguy,[5] Shuttah,[6] Zapper,[7] and Pippins.[8]
    • When paired with Shuttah, Ribbick's attacks remain unaffected.
  • Despite not being an enemy that can be encountered in Chapter 4, Ribbick's attack decreases from 14 to 11, and CroakOn and CroakOnX require the party to press the "[CONFIRM]" button with good timing instead of mashing it.
