Clover
Heyy~! It's my birthday today~!
And you didn't even SAY HELLO!?
That's fine, actually...
Clover, Chapter 1
Clover (JP: クローバー) is a Darkner from Deltarune and a miniboss in Card Kingdom's Forest. She represents the clubs suit.
In Chapter 1, she is celebrating her birthday. In Chapter 2, she can be fought in Castle Town's Party Dojo.
Clover is a large three-headed creature that walks on four legs. She has a long tail with the end looking like a three-horned cross. She has three identical round heads with horns on three long, separate necks with the one in the middle slightly taller, giving her heads a resemblance to the club card symbol. Her heads have three blue eyes in the same club position. Clover's fur (or skin) is entirely white.
Each of Clover's heads has a different personality. The middle head is very cheerful, the right head (viewer's left) is very mean and seems to think highly of herself, and the left head (viewer's right) seems to be somewhat shy and meek, and does not agree with the other two heads on most subjects.
When talking about boys in-battle, Clover's mean and nice heads comment that they like fluffy boys with glasses, matching the description of Ralsei. Clover's shy head, however, says she does not like any boys, and expresses particular disinterest in Ralsei. In Chapter 5, she comments that her eyes met with Elnina.
The right head generally does not want to fight and will sometimes pretend to like what the other two enjoy so that the fight will end sooner. She is also very apologetic for her other heads' extreme behavior, even while fighting.
"Clover" likely refers to the plant of the same name, which is the origin of the club suit's symbol. Clovers commonly have 3 leaves, similar to Clover's 3 heads.
Before meeting Clover, the party encounters a Rudinn trying to think of a good birthday present for her. The Rudinn mentions that Clover only likes sports, trees, and boys.
Clover's three heads can be found at one of the puzzles in the middle of the Forest. Each head comes out of a hole adjacent to the puzzle and gives a clue to the solution of the puzzle, which had its answer mangled with a calligraphy pen by Rouxls Kaard.
After completing the puzzle, Kris can go through the lowered spikes. However, before entering the next room, Clover comes out from behind the puzzle and starts an encounter.
Clover lives in Card Castle on the fourth floor. The bed in her room is shaped like a clover, to fit her three heads. When the party arrives at the castle, they find a party going on in her room, organized by a Rudinn and a Hathy, who identify themselves as party members. Hathy commissioned a Broken Cake for the party that never arrived. A boombox plays club music, and several small trees and large baseballs have been provided, though the baseballs are repainted soccer balls.
Clover is brought to Castle Town alongside the rest of the Card Kingdom inhabitants by Kris. She resides in the Party Dojo and can be fought again as the third challenge of the Dojo. Defeating her rewards the party with a ClubsSandwich from Jigsaw Joe.
Clover still resides in the Dojo, now renamed to the Love Dojo. She enjoys the venue's new changes and appreciates Cap'n's efforts to please her.
Clover (along with Lancer, Rudinn, Hathy, King, Jevil, and the uncredited Former Kings) was originally designed by kanotynes for her design class, having volunteered to draw 52 unique playing card designs.[2] With the exception of Jevil, all of kanotynes's characters were fully designed by March 2012 — 6 years prior to the release of Deltarune Chapter 1.[3] Clover's earliest design was first posted on Tumblr on March 15, 2012 as a character on a jack of clubs playing card.[4]
- Clubs appear outside the bullet board and rapidly shoot three 3-way spreads of bullets at the SOUL.
- Clubs fly from the right of the bullet board and explode, shooting three slow-moving pellets.
Clover gains one attack in addition to the attacks above:
- Clover crouches and extends her tail to the right side of the screen, then her tail appears from the top of the screens and moves horizontally, rapidly releasing clubs from the top of the bullet board.
- The TalkBoys, TalkTrees and TalkSports ACTs can be used once each to fill Clover's (hidden) mercy meter by +40%.
- Using the Manual makes Clover sentimental and fills her mercy meter by +50%. It can be done repeatedly.
- Attempting to spare Clover fills her mercy meter by +10%.
- If three Talk ACTs are used, regardless of topic, Clover becomes tired and can be pacified.
- If her HP is reduced to 135 or below (50%), she becomes tired and can be pacified.
- To spare Clover, the Topic or Topic(Long) ACTs must be used. Topic gives 3 seconds while Topic(Long) gives the player 10 seconds to choose a topic Clover likes:
- CuteBoys
- Fluffy
- Birthday
- Sports
- Family
- Hole
- Rouxls
- Puzzle
- Party
- Dance
- GiantBed
- NumberThree
- Sandwich
- Tree
- Meanwhile these topics are what Clover dislikes.
- SplatNoise
- SandPaper
- Chaos
- Clown
- NumberFour
- NumberTwo
- Turtleneck
- Trouble
- Thrash
- Guns
- Cheating
- Dice
- Starwalker
- 4LeafClover
- Garbage
- Non-Birthday
- Crime
- A correct guess fills Clover's mercy meter by %, up to 50%, where T is the current turn number.
- Sparing Clover fills her mercy meter by +5%.
- If her HP is reduced to 750 or below (50%), she becomes tired and can be pacified.
- After returning from the Cyber World, both S-Action and R-Action become available, increasing Clover's mercy meter by +5% and +25% respectively.

- Clover's original design as the jack of clubs in kanotynes's custom deck[3]
- Clover is the only spareable enemy in Chapter 1 whose mercy meter can be progressively filled using ACTs or items. This is likely why the mercy meter is invisible to the player until Chapter 2, as it is otherwise irrelevant outside of repeatedly using the Spare command against enemies.
- Clover's name and her attacks are a reference to her shape; the locations of her head form a club, which resembles a clover plant. Her bed and the door to her room continue the theme with the same club shape.
- There is data in the files for a scrapped version of Clover that would appear as a regular enemy instead of a miniboss. She also had more variety in ACT commands, a higher AT, and a lower D$ reward.
- For that unused variant, there are scrapped commands for the ACTs Religion, Politics, GunControl, Kindness, Ghosts and Games. Some of these were possibly scrapped for being controversial topics.
- Examining the game's dialogue reveals that GunControl actually refers to controller preferences, possibly for a shooter game.[5]
- For that unused variant, there are scrapped commands for the ACTs Religion, Politics, GunControl, Kindness, Ghosts and Games. Some of these were possibly scrapped for being controversial topics.
- Cut dialogue suggests that Clover's middle head admires King, but believes that "Lightners deserve respect." Clover's mean head hates him, but like him believes in exterminating non-Darkners.[6][7]
- In addition, Clover's mean and nice heads' crush on Ralsei was more evident (up to the point that her middle head calls him "Mr. Fluffy" in one instance),[8] whereas the shy head was implied to be more interested in Susie.[9] Additionally, her mean head's dialogue was more vulgar, while the shy head often politely asked the other two to stop arguing.[7]
