Ramb

From Deltarune Wiki

But if I know Kris, and boy do I know Kris... that's not what YOU want, innit?
Freedom. That's what YOU want, chum, freedom!

Ramb to Kris, Chapter 3

Ramb (JP: ラム) is a Darkner in Deltarune. He represents a power strip in the living room of the Dreemurr residence.[2] In Chapter 3, he provides guidance to accessing the Original Game for the Sword Route, which allows the player to acquire the Shadow Mantle.

Profile

Appearance

Ramb resembles one of the many Plugboys found in the Cyber World, and likely used to be one of them, as he also hails from the library's computer lab. He differs from the regular Plugboys by his indigo coloration, his "ears" that curve downwards, and his unique face shape. Ramb is wearing what looks to be an orange apron or overalls. He is almost always seen smiling, but sports a smug expression when talking to Kris about more personal topics.

Personality

Ramb deeply cares for Kris and frequently reminisces about "the old days" they spent together, considering Kris's interests over everything else. Ramb acts with a sassy attitude, often suggesting he feels more important than the rest of Tenna's crew, which isolates him from other TV World Darkners. He thinks that the modified game that Tenna has the party play during his show is boring, and expects Kris to not like it. That is why he allows Kris to play the "original" game in secret, which he believes will give them "freedom" and allow them to have "REAL fun" - phrases that he often repeats.

Speech pattern

Ramb's dialogue is written in a way which suggests he has a Midlands to South English accent, frequently referring to Kris as "luv" and the use of "innit". In Japanese, he speaks with a countryside-like accent, using lots of elongated vowel sounds denoted with small kana (e.g. ねぇ, よぉ, だぁ).

Main story

History

Ramb represents a power strip that Kris and Asriel took home from the library. He has memories of his existence in the Light World, recalling Kris and a girl playing make-believe with the objects representing King, Queen, and Tenna when they were younger.[3] Kris played with him as well, treating him as if he were a toy, which gave him a bit of an ego.[4] Ramb also knows some Darkners from the Cyber World, asking Kris about Queen, Swatch, and Spamton.[5] He was employed by Tenna at some point, where his role was to "work the stand".

Chapter 3

Ramb can be first seen in the Before the Show area. He immediately speaks to Kris with familiarity, and asks them to catch up with him in the Green Room.

In the Green Room, Ramb can be seen tending the bar at the top of the room, where he will give the party a reward depending on the rank they got on the previous board:

S-rank Pink RibbonWhite Ribbon
A-rank ReviveMintTensionGem
B-rank ReviveMintTensionGem
C-rank TV DinnerLodeStone
Z-rank No reward

Since Tenna does not allow him to touch the POINTs, he tells Kris to buy items in the vending machine instead. He reminisces to Kris about how they and "that girl" used to play make-believe together, and asks them how she is.

After the bonus round, Tenna can be heard in the greater TV World talking over the phone to Ramb. Ramb appears to be telling Tenna that Toriel rolled over in her sleep, to which Tenna responds by telling Ramb that he needs to play her classical music. Ramb then tells Tenna that he is quitting his job, to which Tenna responds with anger.

If the Sword Route is not pursued, Ramb turns to stone by the time the party returns to the Green Room after defeating Rouxls Kaard, while still standing behind the bar. Upon interacting with his statue, a Pippins appears and recounts how Ramb was often at odds with and outcast from the rest of the TV World Darkners, prioritizing what he believed was best for Kris over all else. A second interaction causes the Pippins to compare Ramb to Tenna, noting that both are trapped in the past emotionally.[1]

Sword Route

If the party receives an S-rank, whether legitimately or through buying the counterfeit, or a T-rank, they can access the S-rank changing room. Ramb is inside, standing in front of the door to the backstage area. He assumes Kris is dissatisfied with the gameplay of The Legend of Tenna and offers them a chance to experience the original version of the game. He allows Kris access to the backstage area and volunteers to guard the room to prevent Tenna from disrupting the play session.

The Original Game's Desert Board is available after completing its The Legend of Tenna counterpart but before starting the Island Board, while the Original Game's Island Board is available after completing its The Legend of Tenna counterpart but before discovering Toriel in the Cold Place.

After initiating the Sword Route by completing the Original Game's Desert Board and obtaining the Ice Key, Ramb asks if Kris enjoyed the experience. He invites them to return later for another round, though he notes that Tenna almost came inside. After completing the Original Game's Island Board and Ice Palace, Kris can ask Ramb if someone else was backstage with them, but Ramb denies the possibility, stating that he was keeping guard of the door the whole time.

If Kris completes the Original Game's Island Board without the Ice Key from the previous board, they are unable to access the Ice Palace, and thus are unable to pursue the Sword Route. Ramb is disappointed that Kris was unable to finish the game, and suggests it might have been possible if they had obtained an S-rank earlier from The Legend of Tenna version of the Desert Board.

Completing the Ice Palace, discovering Toriel in the Cold Place, then navigating through TV World to return to the Green Room, allows Kris to return to the S-rank changing room. At this point, it is possible to enter Ramb's bar via a hidden pathway downwards on the far left, directly opposite to the backstage entrance, from where they can watch Ralsei and Susie playing video games.[6] It becomes inaccessible after the Shadow Mantle holder is defeated. Additionally, the doors to the backstage area are left open if the Ice Palace was previously completed. Ramb is found inside, partially petrified and unable to move. He asks Kris to push him out of the way so that they can play the final board. After being pushed out of the way, he reveals that he saw Kris create the Dark Fountain. He asks Kris why, speculating that it might have been for fun, revealing that it has been his purpose as a darkner to make sure Kris can play their games. He worries if this was a great idea, before worrying about what would happen if Toriel woke up. In the last interaction, he asks that if it was not for fun, why did Kris create the dark fountain, seemingly getting no response from Kris.

A Rabbick panicked about something that happened to Ramb

Partially-petrified Ramb remains in the backstage area as late as dying in the City Board, but disappears when Kris reaches the manhole dungeon. After completing the Sword Route by defeating the Shadow Mantle holder, the Rabbick in the S-rank changing room is panicked by something that happened to Ramb. It is confused, thinking Kris had passed by earlier, possibly having mistaken HERO_SWORD for them.

If the party received a Z-rank, the worst possible rank, rather than S-rank or T-rank, Ramb comments on how Tenna does not appreciate this kind of performance, but insists it is Tenna's fault for his lack of fun in the boards. By getting the Z-rank, the party is only allowed to access the Z-rank changing room. Going down the manhole in that room transports Kris to the backstage area, still allowing the player to initiate the Sword Route. The route otherwise proceeds as normal, but access to the S-rank changing room is not possible, along with Ramb's associated commentary in that room. If S-rank is attained only on Round 2, Ramb's dialogue in the S-rank changing room is the same as Round 1. After the third round, getting both Z-ranks has the same result as with S-ranks: Ramb is spared from petrifying all the way and awaits Kris backstage after setting up one last game.

During Spamton Sweepstakes and its 2025 update, two pages at /ramb/ and /romb/ were revealed, with the first corresponding to the Green Room. Ramb and Ramb's bar name are absent from this Green Room screenshot. The /romb/ page that was added in May of 2025 depicts the door to the backstage game room that Ramb guards in-game, with the page's title being "No one will shed a tear for him.", a direct quote from the Pippins that tells Kris about Ramb if he turns to stone without pursuing the Sword Route.

Trivia

  • Ramb seems to be written in a way meant to allude to the Shadow Crystal bosses of previous Chapters, with his dialogue's weighty focus on "freedom". He also has lines containing the phrases "Chaos, chaos!" and "big shots" - clear references to Jevil and Spamton respectively.
    • He apparently is somewhat of an outcast from the rest of the Darkners in TV World, a trait that, before the release of Chapter 3, was often assumed to be a consistent trait across Shadow Crystal bosses.
    • Though Ramb is not a boss himself, the Shadow Mantle that the Sword Route grants access to at its conclusion does make it significantly easier to face the Knight, Chapter 3's true Shadow Crystal boss, and to acquire its Shadow Crystal.
  • In the extracanonical[7] Fangamer commercial for the HERO_SWORD, HERO_AXE, and HERO_SCARF figurines, Tenna implies that Ramb was responsible for the job of modifying the Original Game into The Legend of Tenna.[8]
