Winglade
Halo, goodeye! Halo, goodeye!
Winglade, Chapter 4
Winglade (JP: ウィングレード) is a Darkner enemy encountered in Chapter 4 of Deltarune. It is encountered in the 2nd Sanctuary and the 3rd Sanctuary. Based on the item which it shares a name with, along with the nature of the 2nd Sanctuary, it is likely the Dark World form of a quill writing pen.
Winglade is a vaguely sword-like bat with wings. Its head consists of yellow rings with a single eye located in the center. On top of a Winglade's head is a single horn-like extrusion that splits off into two curves, somewhat forming a halo shape. In addition, Winglade has short daggers that sit below the head, somewhat like a tail. Winglade has the ability to retract both the horn and dagger at will.
Winglade has a chaotic and defiant personality, wanting to start a revolution, presumably against the lawful and orderly Organikks. Although resembling a sword, it seems to prefer being used as a writing implement, especially being used to draw graffiti. Excluding its battle dialogue, Winglade never capitalizes any word it speaks.[2]
"Winglade" is a portmanteau of "wing" and "blade".

In the Dark Sanctuary, Winglades are first mentioned by a Wafer in the path leading to the Old Man's Study. Upon Susie's creation of the 2nd Sanctuary, Winglades are brought to life alongside the other Darkners that were once petrified in the Dark Sanctuary. A lone Winglade enemy can spawn in the third section between the stairs that contain glass tapestries from the prophecy.
Once the Grand Door leading to the 3rd Sanctuary is opened, the 2nd Sanctuary residents are no longer petrified. In the East Belltower, a Winglade NPC appears blocking the door to the room where Susie obtained the SheetMusic from the Old Man. It encourages the party to forge their own path before remarking that its own path stands in their way.
A Winglade appears in a "race of familiars" held in Castle Town, as a Wicabel's familiar.

- Despite being described as "The witch's familiar", Winglade cannot actually appear in battle with Wicabel.
- Winglades are the only 2nd Sanctuary enemies to not appear in the first Sanctuary as statues.
- This is likely due to the fact that they are a living version of the weapon of the same name that Kris can find within the Dark Sanctuary.
- Winglade's mention of revolutions is likely a double-meaning on how revolution is both the act of defying authority, as well as a word used to describe spinning.
- During the "race of familiars" held in Castle Town in Chapter 5, Winglade's sprite lacks its eye.
- In some unused battles, Winglade can appear with Balthizard,[4] Wicabel,[5] and Guei.[6]
