Library

From Deltarune Wiki

You kids came out of the library, didn't you? Studying... How wonderful.

Scarf Lady, Chapter 2

The library (JP: としょかん) (misspelled as librarby on the sign) is a two-story building located in southern Hometown, east of the central road and west of the school. Berdly frequently volunteers as an assistant here.

In Chapter 2, it houses the library Fountain in the Cyber World. Kris and Susie travel there while attempting to work on their school project in the computer lab.

Main story

Chapter 1

In Chapter 1, Berdly works at the desk. Patrons include Jockington, Temmie, and Striped Bird. Berdly is surprised to see Kris has survived Susie, and then mentions the overdue book, "How to Draw Dragons". If Berdly is spoken to again, he describes the book's cover.[1] If Kris overheard Rudy and Noelle in the hospital, they try to suggest that Berdly should go to one of the hospital windows.

Kris can interact with Temmie and Jockington, and find that both of them claim to be working on the school project. Striped Bird advises Kris to read the books upstairs. However, they block the stairs to the second floor. Inside the computer lab's locked doors, a white dog works at a computer, who is making a game and sometimes playing the maracas.

Chapter 2

In Chapter 2, Kris reminds Susie that they need to go to the library to start their school project. En route to the library, Kris discovers Undyne lifting a car, and that Hometown's main road is blocked by a traffic jam.

Inside the library, Kris and Susie discover that the computer lab became a new Dark World. They enter it and descend into the Cyber World's first location, Cyber Field. After sealing the Dark Fountain within, Kris can explore the computer lab.

If Kris reenters with Susie, they can explore the first floor for her commentary. This occurs for two of the bookshelves and the Teenz Corner. The bookshelf closest to the computer lab also has a book that alludes to Undertale's Madjick.

Chapter 4

During Chapter 4, Jockington and Catti can be found outside, trying to get her family down from a tree. Inside, Berdly is once again working as a volunteer assistant if he escaped the Cyber World uninjured. The Wet-Nose Bandits are seen hiding in the upper-left corner, one of them deep into a book. Talking to another causes them to worry about how Napstablook might be doing without Undyne.

Sublocations

First floor

The first floor

The first floor is a square room with a set of double-doors at the top and a staircase leading upstairs in the top-right corner. The librarian's desk is situated in the bottom-left corner. Two pairs of bookshelves line the western wall, and a wall extends from the eastern wall that contains a bulletin board advertising the Teenz Corner. Below this wall is a small table with an open book and a stack of papers.

Upon inspection, Kris can lick one of the books from the bookshelf close to the entrance. The other bookshelves have a journal written in Napstablook's style of speech, a book from Hots Fireguy, and "Lord of the Hammer", a bestseller from Gerson. In the Teenz Corner display, "The Anonymous Yellow Lizard" (referring to Alphys) has left a positive review of Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2.

Computer lab

The computer lab

The computer lab is a square room that can only be accessed in Chapter 2. There are two desks to the left and right which each contain a line of three computers. The right desk is larger, and has a single laptop. The computers on both desks are plugged into a single power strip in the center of the room. Lining the northern wall are a group of three posters and a large cabinet. A doorway to the server room is present in the top-left, and the narration explains that a large person is able to fit inside. A trash can is present in the bottom-left, and a recycling bin is present in the bottom-right.

In Chapter 1, Kris can look through the window doors and find the Annoying Dog working on a game, and occasionally playing maracas.

In Chapter 2, the narration indicates that certain objects are Light World forms of Trashy, Poppup, and Maus. If Kris inspects the posters a second time, they reminisce about an orange cat poster.[2] If Spamton NEO was defeated, the computer nearby the recycling bin changes.[3] Upon exiting, Kris collects everything in the room, and this room becomes inaccessible.

The second floor

The second floor is a small room with six bookshelves. In Chapter 2, Kris can inspect two of the bookshelves. The other four are blocked by Striped Bird, who enthusiastically recommends Kris should read books. The right shelf has a book on how to take care of humans for monsters, which Toriel has taken from the library years prior. The left is Book 1 on SOULs.[4] In Chapter 4, the Striped Bird has moved further left, with the covered bookshelf containing a book on Monster Funerals.[5]

Trivia

  • The sign on the outside of the library misspells it as "LIBRARBY". This is a reference to the library seen in Snowdin Town in Undertale, where this exact same typo is present.
