Island Board (Original Game)

From Deltarune Wiki

The Island Board (JP: アイランドパーク Island Park) of the Original Game is the original version of Tenna's Island Board from The Legend of Tenna before it was modified. It is the second location visited during the Sword Route. This board is only playable after receiving an S-rank, T-rank, or Z-rank during Round 2 of TV Time, or purchasing a counterfeit S-rank.

Completion of this board necessitates the use of the Ice Key, which unlocks the door to the Ice Palace. Completing the board grants the Shelter Key, which must be used to continue the Sword Route in the City Board.

Main story

The Island Board is the second location that Kris traverses alone during the Sword Route. Beginning the game in the southeastern corner of the island, HERO_SWORD makes their way to what was previously Kodakoda Shrine to retrieve the sword, which they use to kill the monsters on the island. There are only enough monsters on the island to increase HERO_SWORD's LV to 2, which grants them the ability to destroy the ferns blocking the waterfall to the north.

HERO_SWORD rides the waterfall up to a previously inaccessible entrance, which leads them to the northeastern corner of the ocean with a new raft. They ride their raft to the northern part of the board and dock on a cold area similar to the cold area on the Desert Board. They destroy the fern blocking the way to a locked door, which they unlock using the Ice Key. This allows them entry into the Ice Palace.

Sublocations

Southern Kodakoda

HERO_SWORD begins the game in the southeastern corner of the island. The area is empty and only has a single exit leading west. The next area has a small pool of water with a fern in the center, and further west is the bottom end of the central river, which contains a blue fish monster.

The southwestern corner of the island contains a cave entrance and a ladder to the right, allowing HERO_SWORD to climb up the wall. On top of the ledge, HERO_SWORD can head east to find a cave entrance. If Kris is on the raft, they can dock at the island to the left, formerly the lost lover island, and find another cave entrance.

Central Kodakoda

The central river contains a blue fish monster swimming in it. There are two pathways on either side of the river that lead further north into the former Kodakoda Shrine entrance. Unlike in The Legend of Tenna, the cave entrance to the right is removed, and there is only a single cave entrance to the left that leads to the sword chamber. If Kris's LV has not yet reached 2, exiting the caves on the island places them back to this area.

Western Kodakoda

To the west of the sword chamber entrance, there are two purple monsters roaming the area. The southern areas are empty and lead back to the southern portion of the island. The northern area has another purple monster.

Eastern Kodakoda

To the east of the sword chamber entrance, there is a lake that spans the center of the room. There is a raft available to ride, and on the other side of the lake, there is a cave entrance and a flower siting on the southeastern dirt patch. A blue fish monster is swimming in the lake and can attack HERO_SWORD if they are on the raft. Ferns block the waterfall to the north, which falls behind the northern bridge.

The lake continues to the south, which has another blue fish monster but is otherwise a dead-end. Two bridge pieces sit against the bottom-left corner of the area, but they cannot be picked up.

Northern Kodakoda

North of the sword chamber entrance is a room with two dirt patches, with two yellow lizard monsters standing in them. To the north is the former Lover's Peak, with the heart pedestals removed. To the east is a bridge to a dead end. The waterfall behind the bridge leads to an entrance that leads HERO_SWORD to the north-eastern corner of the board.

After travelling through the entrance at the top of the waterfall, HERO_SWORD emerges from a cave entrance without their raft, although a new raft is present at the cave exit which can travel the ocean. Once HERO_SWORD emerges from this cave, it is no longer possible to reenter it. Due to the lack of docks on the exterior of Kodakoda Island (unlike in The Legend of Tenna), this means that it is impossible to return to Kodakoda Island after travelling through the cave at the top of the waterfall.

Caves

The "GO TO NORTHERN LIGHT" text in the caves

Initially, entering any of the caves on the island leads HERO_SWORD to the sword chamber, and exiting places them in front of the Kodakoda Shrine entrance.

After HERO_SWORD reaches LV 2, all cave entrances (except the Tropic of Love cave) lead to a different room, with a message depending on whether HERO_SWORD has the Ice Key. The room's exit now returns to the location where HERO_SWORD entered.

If the Ice Key was obtained by completing the Desert Board of the Original Game, the caves lead to a room which displays text that reads "GO TO NORTHERN LIGHT". The room serves to direct HERO_SWORD to the far north of the board, which holds an entrance to the Ice Palace. This room uses the tileset of the Ice Palace.

If the Ice Key was not obtained, the room instead has text that reads "THE KEY WAS FORGOTTEN". This room uses the tileset of the Desert Board.

Ocean

Beginning at the northeastern corner of the board, which has a fern blocking the way, HERO_SWORD travels the ocean surrounding the island. If they travel along the northern part of the island, they can find a smaller island which contains a cave entrance. Traveling to the west of the island leads HERO_SWORD to another island that formerly hosted the lawnmower minigame but instead has another cave entrance.

Tropic of Love

The Tropic of Love is a heart-shaped island situated at the southeastern corner of the board. It contains an entrance to a cave area that is separate from the other caves on the board. While in the cave, HERO_SWORD encounters Tenna, who is speaking out loud to himself about whether Kris is enjoying the games he is subjecting them to. Tenna hears HERO_SWORD approaching and flees the area.

Ice region

Unlocking the Ice Palace door

The ice region spans the northern part of the board. A dock is situated at the center of the region, and HERO_SWORD can destroy the fern blocking the way north. The final area of the ice region contains a locked door that leads to the Ice Palace. If HERO_SWORD has the Ice Key, they use it to unlock the door and enter.

If HERO_SWORD does not have the Ice Key, the screen turns a solid blue and displays text that reads "AREN'T YOU FORGETTING SOMETHING IMPORTANT?" The game shuts off at this point, and Kris cannot continue any further.
