Monster Kid, Chapter 1

Monster Kid (JP: モンスターの子) is a returning character in Deltarune. They are one of Kris's classmates in Hometown's school, where they sit next to Kris to their right, behind Temmie, and in front of Snowy.

Profile

Appearance

Monster Kid is an armless yellow reptilian monster with several lighter yellow spikes on their head and protruding front teeth. They wear an orange shirt with a pocket on the left, brown trousers, and a cross on a chain around their neck.

Personality

Monster Kid has an informal manner of speech, using words such as "yo" frequently as they speak. They also tend to laugh often when talking. They seem to be sympathetic to Kris and their perceived struggles, especially concerning Susie, who they seem to be the most afraid of.

Monster Kid seems to be consider Kris a friend, and was their first choice for who they wanted to partner with on their group project. They also seem to take Kris's fear of the shelter more seriously than Snowy.

While Monster Kid at first is disappointed to be partnered with Snowy, the two seem to have become closer after their partnership and are almost always seen together.

Main story

Chapter 1

In Chapter 1, Monster Kid is present in Alphys's classroom. While Kris is searching for a partner for their group project, Monster Kid insists that Kris should arrive earlier, as they are already partnered with Snowy. After Alphys pairs Kris with Susie for the project, Monster Kid apologizes for not being Kris's partner, and worries that Susie is going to beat Kris up.

After school, Monster Kid can be found in the street near Snowy's apartment building. They admit that they never saw Susie hit anyone but are afraid of her anyway. They relate a story that she once "creepily" watched from a corner while they were playing handball with Snowy and Jockington, and she kicked the ball into Officer Undyne's car when it rolled to her. If spoken to again, they notice that Kris looks annoyed, joking that they can calm down now because Susie is absent, and then wondering why they look even more annoyed.

Chapter 2

In Chapter 2, Monster Kid is again present in the classroom. After school, Monster Kid and Snowy are present in front of the door to the shelter, speculating about what could be inside. They both flee when Susie overhears them talking about Kris.

Chapter 4

In Chapter 4, Monster Kid is present at the church, drinking fruit juice with Snowy from a single cup. They express displeasure that Susie came with Kris to church before reminding them that Alphys is nearby if they need any help. If Susie scared them and Snowy off from the shelter near the end of Chapter 2, Monster Kid mentions that "that wasn't cool" and that calling them a weenie was just a bad Snowy joke.

Relationships

Snowy

Snowy is Monster Kid's academic partner. Despite seeming to be friends, Monster Kid shows a distaste for Snowy's frequent jokes. Monster Kid and Snowy are frequently seen together both in school and outside of school.

Outside of Deltarune

In Undertale, Monster Kid is a recurring NPC who first appears in Snowdin Town. They later accompany the protagonist through the Waterfall out of a desire to see their idol Undyne.
