Tao
Tao[note 1] is a Darkner in Deltarune that appears inside the Dark Sanctuary. They can only be seen from a distance; it is not possible to reach or talk to Tao.
Tao has a gray-purple body with no arms and two short legs. They have one large eye that takes up the entirety of their face. Their pupil is maroon and likely represents the metronome's pendulum. Their head and short tail are colored maroon. They also have two ears coming out of the top of their head.
While it is unclear what Tao is meant to be in the Light World, based on their behavior and appearance they are likely supposed to be a metronome. A metronome resembling Tao's head is also visible on top of the wardrobe in the storage room of the church.
Tao can only be seen from a distance in the left wing of the library, where the first half of the third piano playing puzzle solution is revealed. They are seen at the edge of a platform on the far left of the room.
After revealing the solution, the room's shape changes, and the view of Tao becomes permanently inaccessible.
