Castle Town
I want this place to be a place...
Where you can forget about the real world for a while.
Castle Town (JP: キャッスルタウン), officially the Kingdom of Darkness[1] (JP: 闇の王国), is a location within the closet Dark World in Deltarune. It houses Ralsei's castle and the Grand Fountain. It is unique in its ability to host Darkners from other Dark Worlds.
Initially, Ralsei is the only inhabitant. At the start of Chapter 2, Kris transfers residents of Card Kingdom to Castle Town. With the town populated and transformed, the name in the SAVE point and the theme changes to My Castle Town. Gathering recruits can unlock new activities and alter Castle Town's theme in later Chapters.[2]
As of Chapter 2, a Rudinn around Party Dojo refers to Castle Town as "<NAME>Town", where "<NAME>" is the player's name, as provided in the introduction or upon starting the Chapter without a Chapter 1 SAVE file.
Kris and Susie arrive at Castle Town after they slide down a cliff near the end of the unnamed cliffs area, escaping Lancer's attacks. At the entrance of the town, they note how the unfamiliar area appears deserted, then progress toward the castle.
After meeting Ralsei, learning of the prophecy, and encountering Lancer, Susie departs on her own. Kris and Ralsei follow after her.
At Castle Town's training area, Ralsei offers to teach Kris about encounters. Afterwards, nearby the Great Door, Ralsei is surprised to find it open. He informs Kris how he believes that their "choices are important", and suggests that they avoid FIGHTing. The two go through, and Ralsei closes the Great Door.

Kris and Susie return to Castle Town immediately upon entering the supply closet. Ralsei greets the two, and Susie notices Lancer and other Darkners are absent. Ralsei asks her to wait, and whispers to Kris to return to Light World and bring everything from the unused classroom to Castle Town.
Once Kris returns with everything, Card Kingdom's Darkners appear, and the town square transforms. Lancer greets Susie and is excited that everyone can enjoy their "new home". Ralsei then informs Susie that Card Kingdom reverted back into the unused classroom. Shortly afterwards, Ralsei states a surprise awaits Kris and Susie within the castle. After Kris and Susie inspect their new rooms, Ralsei invites them to explore Castle Town.
As Kris nears the entrance, Susie expresses disinterest in doing the group project. Ralsei overhears, and "banishes" the two from the kingdom until they start their project. Lancer, Rouxls Kaard, and if found, Starwalker join by becoming the Cards item before Kris and Susie leave.
After their adventure in the Cyber World, the party can find its denizens if they were recruited. Kris and Susie can then return to Hometown anytime they wish.

Kris and Susie return to Castle Town to find that everyone they had recruited in Chapter 3 is now there. The TV Studio appears in Castle Town, which allows playing various minigames and also houses the Mikes fight. Ralsei's castle expands; a field area is added to Lancer's room, Kris and Susie's rooms are temporarily merged, and a second floor with Queen, Tenna, and Ralsei's rooms has appeared.
If the player already has Chapter 4 completion data, they are able to revisit Castle Town through the beam of light at the beginning of the 3rd Sanctuary. Ralsei and Susie stay behind, so Kris is the only party member present. Most of Castle Town is cordoned off by gold Tenna-shaped statues, preventing most interactions with NPCs and blocking access to everything aside from the Cafe and TV Studio. The code to the door with Mike is revealed during this segment. This is the only opportunity the player has to interact with Chapter 4 recruits in Chapter 4 in the Cafe.
In addition, to the left of the TV Studio (behind the cordons), Lancer can be found dancing in a circle with other NPCs (Royal Coat Rack, Top Chef, B Blockler, Mr. Elegance, and the worm) whilst playing the tuba.

Between Chapter 4 and 5, Kris and Susie are implied to have transferred the Dark Sanctuaries objects from the church to Castle Town, given their presence at the start of Chapter 5.
Kris arrives to Castle Town to see Susie preparing for her Festival date with Noelle. At the castle, Queen is preparing a date outfit for Susie. Lancer shows Kris and Ralsei a plan similar to the one for building the Thrash Machine, this time for building Susie's suit. The plan allows selecting different hair, shirt, pants, hat and shoes for Susie's date, with one of the options being duck parts. Queen prints Susie's outfit for her to try out, but soon unprints it.
In the TV Studio, the party can view two scenes with the Mikes that change depending on if Tenna is still in Castle Town. The Party Dojo (now called the Love Dojo) is completely taken over by Lanino and Elnina, and the main function of the Party Dojo is moved to the Top Bakery. The Music Shop reopens to house Top Chef and loses its function from Chapter 2, and a new church building opens up.
Upon leaving the Dark World, Susie's hair has remains of her Dark World outfit. Depending on whether Kris tells Susie her outfit looks like trash, she can realize there is trash in her hair after exiting the closet, or after meeting Noelle.
The Chapter 5 credits show the residents of Castle Town setting up a banner welcoming Noelle, strongly hinting at her arrival. At the end of Chapter 5, Susie says that they need to involve Noelle in their adventures.
In Chapter 1, the town square's four buildings are vacant and have a uniformed exterior. The signs on the buildings are as follows: bottom left is a sack, top left is a sword, bottom right is a question mark, and top right is an inn. At the far northern end, past the buildings is a SAVE point, and the entrance to Ralsei's castle.
At the start of Chapter 2, the town square is the same until Kris returns with the Card Kingdom Darkners. Afterwards, it expands to accommodate the residents, and the four buildings transform. The sack icon shop becomes Party Dojo, the sword shop becomes Seam's Shop, the question mark shop becomes Top Bakery, and the inn becomes the Cafe. Near the SAVE point is an open manual that explains recruits, controls, and item storage.
Initially, an assortment of Card Kingdom's denizens are scattered around the square. In front of Top Bakery, Rouxls Kaard wonders if Kris has also brought King. If spoken to again, he contemplates looking for a "New Employere" after Lancer announces that Rouxls will do all the cooking and cleaning.
Next to the Party Dojo, a Rudinn welcomes them to "[PLAYER]Town", and expresses happiness. After the Cyber World, Rudinn comments on the town's growth. If spoken to again, Rudinn has different dialogue.[3] After TV World, this Rudinn turns blue and tells the party that the town's love is Strong (if all previous enemies were recruited), Plain (used default Chapter 4 SAVE file), or Cracked (otherwise). In Chapter 5, the Rudinn is moved to the entrance of the southeast hall, and it says the party's love is Moist if all previous enemies have been recruited.
Southwest (in Chapter 2) or northwest (in Chapter 4 and 5) of the Party Dojo is a Rudinn Ranger and another Rudinn. In Chapter 2, the Rudinn Ranger proclaims the day as "National Ham Sandwich Day of Independence!" The Rudinn ponders if the Rudinn Ranger is enjoying life due to being at a "higher level". In Chapter 4, the Rudinn Ranger is seen trying to chat up a Watercooler, with both Watercooler and the Rudinn getting annoyed over that. In chapter 5, the Watercooler has revealed itself to be a Mizzle that the Rudinn Ranger is still chatting up, impressing her this time but annoying the Rudinn until it leaves in a huff.
In Chapter 2, a B Blockler is found west of Seam's Shop, barking and stating their appearance.
A Hathy is east of Top Bakery. She expresses liking the town. If Kris has inspected all four Hathy beds in Card Castle's Floor 3F, she has alternate dialogue.[4] After the Cyber World, she is happy to see newcomers. She is no longer there during Chapter 4 or 5.
East of the Cafe is a clean Rabbick, excited at the notion of a "clean start". After the Cyber World, Rabbick sweeps with a smaller broom. A thankful Swatchling sweeps near the Cafe. In Chapter 4, a Zapper and a Swatchling are having a cleaning contest here, with the Rabbick cheering for the Swatchling and a Ribbick cheering for the Zapper. In Chapter 5, they've moved to the training area, being replaced by Malius.
After returning from the Cyber World, some of Darkners from there are present in town square. Southwest of the Party Dojo, Virovirokun and Rudinn reminisce about their encounters with the party, and comment on Noelle. West of Seam's Shop is a Werewire in a suit who is thankful, though intends to keep their appearance. Nearby Top Bakery, a Plugboy is also thankful, though dislikes the restaurant. These NPCs are no longer present after returning from TV World.
After returning from TV World, Nubert appears near the entrance to the town once the party moves past him, commenting on how the party has been sparing all his friends. Lancer appears at the town's wall, jumping onto Susie's back once the party moves past him. Susie only carries him in the town square room.
As of Chapter 4, two unnamed structures appear at the southeast and southwest corners of the town square. Their designs are evocative of Chapter 2's Cyber City. In Chapter 5, the southwest Cyber City structure is replaced by the Dojo, to make room for the new church building.
At the very south end of the town square is a small area containing the pillar of light that transports Kris and Susie back to the Light World, outside the school closet's door. This area is not present during Chapter 1.
Located to the right of Castle Town's entrance, this area is used for Ralsei's training Dummy in Chapter 1. However, Kris can decline learning about encounters. Regardless of Kris's decision, Ralsei gives Kris a Manual.
In Chapter 2, the dummy is still present. Kris has the option to hug the dummy if they have not transferred Card Kingdom's Darkners. Afterwards, the worm can be found eating the dummy's clothes, and Kris is given the option to join. Mr. Elegance is also present in the area. After returning from the Cyber World, an Addison can be found here selling free sample bites of the clothes that were previously on the dummy, and Mr. Elegance says how they are rebuilding the area to be more board-like.
In Chapter 4, the dummy wears a hat, a long nose, and a necklace with a dollar sign on it. The Addisons are selling products to themselves, while never talking about profits, and the worm is eating a leaf. The board-like markers are gone, and in Mr. Elegance's place are a Rudinn, Swatchling and Shadowguy, with the Rudinn showing the Swatchling and Shadowguy the technique of fanning with large leaves.
In Chapter 5, the Addisons and dummy are gone, and their place is taken by Swatch and a makeshift makeup stall that a Zapper is trying to knock down in protest. The worm is also, regretfully, caked up now and has nothing to eat. In place of the fanning NPCs are Hacker and a camera. The Hacker makes a reference to the Dress to Impress game from Roblox, and gives the party a hint about collecting Pink Coins to reach Pink.
Going past the training area brings the party to the Great Door which leads to the Field in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2 and onwards, the door seems to be permanently closed, and a Bloxer with three pairs of pants can be found there instead. After returning from the Cyber World, several NPCs can appear:
- The Bloxer adds a fourth pair of pants if Tasque Manager was recruited.
- If Poppup, Tasque, or Maus were recruited, but Tasque Manager was not, whichever were recruited wander around the door.[5]
- If fewer than three cars were hit while driving with Queen, and no "lost animals" are present (whether because Tasque Manager was recruited or none of the three Darkners above were), a tiny Electro-Dasher appears instead.[6]
After returning from TV World, the Bloxer's head is separate from its five pairs of legs, because it went too far with its training. Ball is standing next to it, with another pair of Bloxer's legs and Shadowguy's hat (if Shadowguy is recruited). If all enemies in Chapter 2 were recruited, then in Chapter 5 they are replaced by Ball, Trashy, and Nubert. They challenge the party to a fight in the Top Bakery and leave. If Starwalker was interacted with in Chapter 1, he is also here to comment on how scary it is that the others flew away.

The Party Dojo, run by Jigsaw Joe, allows the party to attempt various challenges, which each yield various rewards. The challenges are in the form of battles that serve as minigames. As of Chapter 5, it no longer lets the party fight anyone, its function being moved to Top Bakery.

In Chapter 2, Seam's Shop from the Field has been transferred to Castle Town. They are selling their usual wares. Kris can periodically converse with Seam for their advice. If Kris has found any Shadow Crystals, they can give it to Seam. If more than 9 enemies have been recruited from Chapter 2, Seam replaces their Dark Candy stock with CD Bagels, then Darker Candy in Chapter 5. Otherwise, Seam starts selling Darker Candy from Chapter 4.

Top Bakery is a building where the party can obtain LancerCookies from Lancer, fuse items with Malius, and obtain SpinCakes from Top Chef. In Chapter 5, Jigsaw Joe takes over the Bakery, and the party can fight the Trashy Trio, while Malius, Lancer, and Top Chef have moved to other areas.

The Cafe is a building where the party can interact with their recruits. It is initially run by Top Chef, but is taken over by Swatch after returning from the Cyber World. In Chapter 5, Rouxls Kaard has taken over the Cafe, and the stage is littered with fire and worms.
Four recruits can be placed at tables in the Cafe. Interacting with the recruits at these tables shows unique dialogue. Depending on the composition of their placement, the recruits' responses to Kris interacting with them varies. In Chapter 5, most of the standard dialogue changes to show that almost every recruit is annoyed with Rouxls Kaard.

After clearing the Cyber World in Chapter 2, Sweet Cap'n Cakes's Music Shop from Cyber Field transfers to Castle Town. Instead of selling wares, they allow the party to listen to a limited selection of songs from the soundtrack if all enemies have been recruited in the Cyber World. In the Music Room, the party can play some tracks from the Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 OST. If they have not, Sweet Cap'n Cakes mention how they need more recruits to reopen their shop.
At the end of Chapter 2, the Music Room is located next to the training dummy. At the start of Chapter 4, it has been relocated into the expanded town square, though it is closed as the band is busy performing Pushing Buddies in the Dojo.[7]

In Chapter 5, the Top Chef is in the Music Shop, as his place in the Top Bakery has been taken by Bloxers. He gives the party a SpinCake if it was collected in Chapter 1, and acts excited about CD Bagels, although refuses to sell them.

If Tenna survived the climax of Chapter 3, then in Chapter 4, the TV Studio appears in the town square, allowing the party to access multiple minigames for fun. In Chapter 5, a new song in the Rock Video minigame appears.
The building also contains the locked Mike Door, which leads to Mike's room. Inputting the correct code, 6453, grants entry. The door is blocked off if any of Shadowguy, Pippins, and Zapper are not recruited. In Chapter 5, interacting with the door and choosing to knock on it shows two cutscenes of the Mike trio and unlocks the door afterward, but their minigames cannot be played in this Chapter.

A church building appears in Castle Town in Chapter 5, housing various Darkners from Dark Sanctuaries, and some from Cyber World. It includes an organ and a climbing segment similar to the ones from Dark Sanctuary, and a Wafer allows trading S.POISONs for S.POTIONs.
In Chapter 2, after Kris brings all objects from the unused classroom to the closet, Mr. Society can be found next to the cliffs. He mentions being unable to handle society and floats to the top of the cliff. If the party completed his blue checkmark quest in the Cyber World, the Hacker can be found here as well, mentioning how the Castle Town is nearly as good as the city he made in "Minecrap". In Chapter 4, a Pippins tries to scam the Hacker using a child's game, but the Hacker's controller keeps malfunctioning, making the Pippins wonder if the Hacker figured out its intentions. In Chapter 5, Mr. Elegance can be found here growing a pine tree, hoping that Mr. Society comes down after seeing the farmland.
Once Castle Town has been transformed into My Castle Town, Shadow Crystals and equipment granted by Shadow Crystal bosses can be collected from a hole in the cliff, as long as the Shadow Crystal boss is recorded as defeated in their respective Chapter in the current slot (as presented in the Shadow Crystal indicator on the Chapter Select menu).
Therefore, if a Shadow Crystal boss has been defeated in the SAVE slot that the game has most recently loaded or started from, but the Chapter was started without using that Chapter's Completion FILE, the Shadow Crystal can be found here along with the item originally granted by that boss when it was defeated. For example, if Jevil has been defeated with violence in slot 1, and the player started Chapter 2 in the same slot without continuing from Chapter 1, Devilsknife will be found here. If multiple Shadow Crystal bosses have been defeated in the corresponding SAVE slot, all of their items will be obtainable; if a Shadow Crystal boss has been previously defeated, but in another slot, their item will not appear.
If Spamton NEO and was defeated but his item was not obtained due to the inventory not having room for it, a chest will appear here containing it; due to an oversight, in Chapter 4, both the item corresponding to the most recent SAVE in the matching Chapter 2 slot and the chest containing the original item will be here, allowing either one of both items or two of one of the items to be obtained in a single save file. In Chapter 4, due to another oversight, the Knight's Shadow Crystal and the BlackShard can only be acquired here if the BlueRibbon is not in the inventory, as they share the same item ID; this is fixed starting in Chapter 5.
Unlike the other bosses, the Shadow Crystal and JusticeAxe from the Hammer of Justice are available once the fight is first attempted, rather than requiring the party to win the fight.
Ralsei's castle is a large castle found at the north end of Castle Town. It has three floors and a basement. It consists of rooms for Kris, Susie, Ralsei, Lancer, and various other Darkners. It also houses the Grand Fountain.
