Hospital

From Deltarune Wiki

Hum, back again? You come here a lot for someone who isn't sick.

The Nurse to Kris, Chapter 4

The hospital (JP: びょういん) is a building located in southern Hometown, west of the central road and east of the Police Station. The nurse works as a receptionist there. Various Hometown characters are briefly hospitalized throughout Deltarune, with Rudy remaining permanently bedridden due to an unknown illness.

Main story

Chapter 1

In Chapter 1, Kris is able to explore the hospital by themselves. Interacting with the nurse makes them reminisce about Kris and Undyne playing the hospital's piano, asking if Kris is going to play again. If Kris chooses to play the piano, the receptionist comments on their playing being unusual, and notes that Kris seems ill.[1]

In Rudy's room, Kris can overhear Noelle and Rudy talking. Noelle notices Kris when leaving, but is surprised to see them there. She can later be found at the locked gate, far northwest. Kris can then inspect the sink before or after interacting with Rudy, changing Rudy's responses in other Chapters when re-inspecting it. Kris can also talk with Rudy and interact with multiple objects in his room, eliciting jokes and commentary from him.

The Warrior can be found in the right patient room, seeming restless and with both hands bandaged. Pizzapants describes the Warrior's injuries to be "pizza-related".

Chapter 2

In Chapter 2, Kris can bring Susie into the hospital. Inspecting the piano causes Susie to react impressed by Kris knowing how to play, though choosing to actually play the piano makes Susie assume Kris was kidding, which Kris seems angered by.[2] Choosing not to play slightly disappoints Susie.

In Rudy's room, Kris and Susie watch Noelle and Rudy spend time together. Noelle is surprised to see Susie and introduces her to her father, fleeing the room shortly after. Kris can then inspect objects in the room, with Rudy and Susie both providing commentary. There is alternate dialogue for the sink depending on if Kris inspected it in Chapter 1.

The scene in Rudy's room plays out differently on the Weird Route. Noelle notices Kris before Susie, and when Kris attempts to leave, Rudy pulls Susie aside and talks to her off-screen. The screen fades to black, and Noelle thinks about the events that transpired in the Cyber World, and wonders if it was really just a dream. Noelle then notices Kris nearby. If the Silver Watch is equipped on Kris or the directional controls are used to move toward her, Noelle becomes terrified.

Shyren can be found in the right patient room, resting her voice.

Chapter 4

In Chapter 4, Kris can bring Susie to the hospital again and speak to Rudy about Susie, Noelle, and their plans for the festival the next day.

The room on the right is empty under normal circumstances. However, if Berdly damaged his arm during the battle against Queen, he is resting on the bed, with his arm in a cast.

On the Chapter 4 Weird Route, the nurse thanks Kris for retrieving Berdly from the library's computer lab and bringing him to the hospital between the events of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.[3] Berdly is lying on the bed, being unconscious and cold, with a hot water bottle on his head and a space heater next to him. Kris can replace the water bottle and turn the heater to a higher setting, seemingly helping Berdly relax.

The hospital becomes inaccessible during the rain, as it stopped accepting new patients after an influx of rain-induced colds and closed its doors.

Sublocations

Lobby

The lobby

The lobby is a square room with a set of double doors in the top-left corner that leads to the hallway. There are two sofas along the eastern and western walls, and next to the eastern sofa is a bead maze. A receptionist's desk extends from the northern wall, and the nurse is always behind the desk. There is a shelf behind the nurse and an upright piano in the top-right corner of the room. The piano is described as missing most of the good keys due to being shrunken down.[4]

In Chapter 1, the bead maze's beads are "march[ing] grimly along their set path".[5] In Chapter 2 and 4, the beads simply "march on".[6] In the Weird Route, one of blue beads has been torn off.[7]

Hallway

The hallway is an extension of the lobby with two sets of double doors to the left and to the right. A diagram is present in the center, depicting several lines and a circle.

Rudy's room

Rudy's room

Rudy's room is a square room with a bed against the northern wall. An examination light extends from the ceiling and is pointed toward Rudy. The northern wall features a pattern of seahorses and stars. On the wall to the left of the bed is a sign identifying the patient as "Rudolph 'Rudy' Holiday". A sink is present against the eastern wall with an open space containing an angel doll, which was made by Noelle and Dess. If the sink is inspected per Chapter, it prompts different dialogue via Completion FILE.

A table on the right of Rudy's bed holds a bouquet of flowers inside a case. The flowers were sent by Asgore[8] and change each Chapter. Below the table is a visitor's chair.

The patient room

The patient room is a small room that is primarily used to house temporary patients. Against the bottom-right and bottom-left corners are two identical sinks. If both are inspected, the narration describes the second sink as a "clone" of the other sink and suggests that the two were originally a single sink that was sliced in half.

Against the top-left corner is a cabinet containing a miniature "obligatory" piano, and against the top-right corner is a hospital bed. On the northern wall is an ICE-E pain scale from 1-10.
