Worm, Chapter 1

The worm (JP: イモムシ) is a Darkner who resides in Forest. They relocate to Castle Town after the Eastern Fountain is sealed.

Profile

Appearance

The worm is a worm or caterpillar-like creature and consists of five segments of alternating colors in white, green, and pink. They have rosy cheeks adorning their face and two green antennae protruding out of their head.

Personality

The worm has a carefree personality, living life according to "the way of the worm" despite the circumstances surrounding them. They constantly eat leaves and, when none are available, clothes and fabric.

Main story

Chapter 1

In Chapter 1, the worm can be found northwest of Forest's invisible maze, next to a tree whose leaves are falling. When spoken to, the worm states that, before King showed up, they used to eat the leaves that fall from the tree nearby. In actuality, they still do so, and lament: "Such is the way of the worm..."

Chapter 2

In Chapter 2, the worm is seen eating the Dummy's clothes. According to them, the lack of trees forces them to eat clothes to gain nutrients and lament: "Such is the way of the worm..." They are also revealed to not understand taxes upon returning from the Cyber World, as an Addison is charging them to eat the Dummy's clothes.

Chapter 4

In Chapter 4, the worm has joined a certain Rudinn's "fan club". As they lack any arms to actually fan with, they resort to gnawing on the fan leaf instead, once again noting; "Such is the way of the worm..." Upon opening a cleared SAVE file, they can be seen dancing in a circle in Castle Town alongside the other Card Kingdom Darkners, but cannot be interacted with.

Chapter 5

In Chapter 5, the worm appears on the Cafe's stage, alongside other worms belonging to Rouxls Kaard, who manages the cafe while Swatch is away manning his makeup stand. The worm will also appear close to Swatch's stand, with their face covered in makeup, wondering whether or not they are still following the way of the worm, and wishing for another worm to show them the way.

Indeed, a similar worm, Kooby, does appear in the Garden later on in the chapter, outside of Castle Town. Unfortunately, the Chapter ends before the two worms get to meet.

Trivia

• The worm may be based on the children's game Cootie, based on their appearance, as well as their sprites being internally labeled coody.
