In the once upon a time, there was a land like purple cliffs.
A frozen waste, watery basin, a metal desert.
But, this theater was built upon that... and, it grew.

Chapter 2

Until Next Time soundtrack.png
Kris making the Dreemurr residence Fountain

At the end of Chapter 2, after Susie and Toriel fall asleep in the living room, Kris removes the SOUL. They open the front door, turn on the TV, glance at Susie and pierce the floor with a knife, creating a Dark Fountain. They subsequently return to the couch as the Fountain's darkness fills the room and gives TV World form. According to Tenna, Kris also gave him instructions at some point during this time.[1]

Chapter 3

At the beginning of Chapter 3, Kris and Susie wake up on a couch in the couch cliffs. As they explore the location, Ralsei appears and rejoins the party. Susie talks about bringing Ralsei to the Light World to hang out, and possibly attend Hometown's upcoming festival with them, forcing Ralsei to explain the true nature of the Dark World.

Ralsei's dismissal of his own existence upsets Susie. The resulting argument, where Susie declares that Ralsei is real to her, is interrupted by the arrival of Tenna, who then declares the heroes contestants on his game show TV Time.

Susie initially refuses to participate in Tenna's show, but reluctantly accepts after Ralsei convinces her to. The show consists of segments where the party plays a game titled The Legend of Tenna that includes battles and quizzes, followed by physical challenges such as Cooking Show and Rock Video. Between rounds, they are given breaks in the Green Room.

Though the game is originally meant to be short, it quickly becomes apparent that Tenna is deliberately trying to keep it going for longer, adding a second round after the first is completed and attempting to rope the party into a third bonus round after that.

When Susie attempts to tell him that the bonus round has to be the last one, she overhears him trying to hide something from her on a call with his subordinates. After this, the party heads for a blocked-off door in the Green Room that leads to the Cold Place, where they find the Dark Fountain and discover that Tenna has captured a sleeping Toriel in a gachapon capsule. The trio are quickly caught by Tenna afterwards.

Tenna does not acknowledge the trio's discovery of Toriel and attempts to resume the game as normal; when the party resists, he traps them in gachapon capsules and forces them to play the bonus round, where it becomes increasingly clear he is terrified of obsolescence. Eventually, they manage to escape using one of Zapper's ACTs.

While the party journeys through TV World to reach the Cold Place again, Tenna's desperation to recapture them leads him to mistreat his employees to the point of them all quitting. With nothing left to lose, he battles the heroes when they reach the Cold Place to force them to stay.

After his defeat, Susie manages to talk Tenna down, promising to find him a new home so he doesn't get thrown away if he releases Toriel. He agrees, but is attacked by the Knight immediately after returning her. The Knight attempts to take Toriel with it, but Susie blocks its way, initiating the final encounter of Chapter 3.

Regardless of the fight's outcome, the Knight defeats the party and almost takes Toriel away, only leaving when it is able to capture Undyne instead after she wanders inside the house.

Chapter 4

At the start of Chapter 4, Kris seals the Dreemurr residence Fountain. If both Shadowguy and Pippins are recruited, Susie repairs Tenna in TV World between Chapters, allowing him to be brought to Castle Town.

Geography

TV World is primarily presented as a studio-like location, with red carpets strewn across the floor and similarly red walls with posters depicting various shows. Floor lights sometimes litter the ground. Statues of Tenna are situated throughout TV World, and Tenna is similarly depicted in the screens along the walls and the stanchions stationed along the edges of the floor. In the background, stars travel across a dark blue sky, and construction girders of various sizes can also be seen. Colored lights often hang from the ceiling.

Some of the walls throughout TV World are covered with TV screens which cycle between various channels. These channels can depict Toriel, Asgore, Tenna, Pippins, and Shadowguy performing various actions.

Many areas within TV World take place in a backstage setting, with brown, wooden floors and walls. Theses areas are much simpler in design, but there are occasionally spotlights hanging from the ceiling which shine light onto the ground. These areas are littered with trash cans containing various items, and holding cells for prisoners.

The puzzles in TV World are themed primarily around the video game settings in The Legend of Tenna. In the backstage areas, spotlight puzzles that require stealth must be completed to progress.

Sublocations

Couch cliffs

Couch cliffs location.png
Couch that Kris and Susie slept on

Kris and Susie slept on a couch in the introduction area to TV World. This area mirrors the cliffs area in the closet Dark World in ambience, with the same puffy mound entities and wobbly things as in the cliffs area. Further on, there is an area where Kris uncovers a chest with 10 POINTs.

While sliding down one of the slides, a camera in the shape of Shuttah appears to take a picture of the party.

Before the Show

TV World location Before the Show.png
The pre-show area

After Tenna's introduction, the party arrives to a pre-show area with several Shadowguy NPCs, a Ralsei introductory manual that reminds the party how to spare enemies, a Pippins that trades TV Dinners for 250 Dark Dollars, a Zapper NPC that explains ranks on boards, Lanino and Elnina, Ramb, and Rouxls Kaard. One of the Shadowguys asks the party for an autograph, and faints in shock if the party accepts.

Entrance

After the party escapes Tenna's capture, they can be seen hiding behind a pile of gacha balls. They find themselves in a backstage area, then continue east into a red carpeted horizontal hallway with Tenna statues, TV screens, and posters. At the center of the room is an open space, which triggers a cheering crowd when walked through, and at the end of the room is a SAVE Point and a shortcut door.

First cowboy minigame

East of the Entrance is a hallway partially hidden behind a curtain. When walking into the curtain, an unseen NPC transfers them to a western movie set, and the party must complete a round of the cowboy minigame to progress to the other side of the curtain.

Shadowguy crossroads

TV World location Shadowguy crossroads.png
The Shadowguy crossroads

The next room consists of a large square room with offshoots leading to different areas. The central square area is split into a 2x2 grid and has many Shadowguys roaming the area that attack the party. The southern offshoot leads to a split path: the western split leads to a chest containing a TV Dinner, and the eastern split veers south into the next area, both of which contain open spaces that trigger cheering crowds.

Lancer's room

The northern offshoot leads to a horizontal hallway with a game screen lining the northern wall and four game consoles that correspond with certain portions of the screen. Lancer is at the end of the hallway occupying the fourth game console, and he allows the party to take his controllers. The party can control Lancer in the game to dig out holes that grant 10 POINTs each, and one hole that grants 100 POINTs the first time it is dug and 10 POINTs on subsequent digs.

First quiz room

The next area is a zig-zag hallway containing many TV screens displaying various shows. Walking through the second set of TV screens triggers a short quiz.

The path ends in another split. When walking through the eastern split, the party witnesses Tenna complaining that they have not yet been captured. The western split leads to another quiz and continues into a small backstage room containing the Lancer digging puzzle. Completing this puzzle is a requirement to obtain the Egg. Once the puzzle is complete, Susie's character must throw the blue block across the river between the plants.

Monster Movie set

Continuing east, the party enters the Monster Movie set, populated by two sets of nine small houses. When entering the set, Susie automatically destroys the nearest active house, but Kris can also destroy houses by interacting with them. Destroying every house awards the party with 1 POINT.

At the center of the room, Shadowguys fall from the ceiling and attack the party.

Goulden Sam

TV World location Goulden Sam.png
The Goulden Sam area

The Goulden Sam room is a backstage area containing a SAVE Point. The area is described by the narration as a "prisonlike" location due to the presence of a Goulden Sam cage. The cage houses a Shadowguy and a Pippins, and another Pippins is present to the left of the Goulden Sam. The Pippins sells TV Dinners for $300 each, or $800 if three are bought together. To the right of the Goulden Sam is a shortcut door and Starwalker (if found during Chapter 1).

First Stealth Zone

To the east is the first Stealth Zone, which is a long horizontal hallway blocked by search lights. Initially, the party moves slowly along the northern wall, but when encountering a moving searchlight, Susie suggests the party move faster, after which each spotlight passed through awards 1 POINT. At the end of the hallway is a trash can, which contains a switch that unlocks the door at the beginning. The party can attempt to climb into the trash, but there is no way to unpress the switch.

Ribbick room

Past the door is an open room with many trashcans, each filled with either trash or various items and POINTs. The central trash can contains a Ribbick, which attacks the party.

Second Stealth Zone and Watercooler room

TV World location Watercooler room.png
The Watercooler room

Continuing east is another Stealth Zone, this time split up by a doorway which leads to a small room with a Watercooler and a chest containing 500 POINTs. The chest is "blocked" by a non-functional cardboard cutout of spikes. Along the northern wall is a shower curtain containing an unseen NPC that reacts to how the party defeated the Watercooler. If the party backs away to the previous room, the passages become blocked by two Watercoolers. Moving between the two rooms makes the Watercoolers closer and closer to the door until the party battles at least one of the Watercoolers.

Invisible maze

East of the Stealth Zone is a maze with invisible walls. A trash can to the east contains another Ribbick which attacks the party, and a trash can further east contains 120 POINTs. A trash can to the southwest contains 50 POINTs.

Suilver Sam

East of the invisible maze is a room described by a Pippins as "Punishment Cage B" due to the presence of a Suilver Sam housing said Pippins. A Zapper attempts to trap the party behind the Suilver Sam, but fails due to the ease of which they can escape.

Second cowboy minigame

The party continues forward into another cowboy minigame they must complete. After doing so, Ralsei walks out of the curtain while still in his horse costume. Realizing this, he walks back and changes out. Ralsei's title temporarily changes to "Horse", then "Ex-Horse".

On the other side is a pile of hay and a blue wardrobe containing a horse costume and a miniature stable. Inspecting the pile of hay prompts alternate dialogue via Completion FILE. If Susie obtained the Moss Enjoyer title after eating Cyber City's moss with Kris in Chapter 2, she excitedly mistakes some hidden spinach for moss, though she and Kris eat the spinach together anyways. On second inspection, the narration changes based on whether Dealmaker is equipped. When interacting with the blue wardrobe, "RALSEI RANCHER" is unlocked, though Susie disapproves and closes the cabinet, re-locking its access.

Shadowguy hallways

TV World location Shadowguy hallway.png
The southern Shadowguy hallway

The next room is a long hallway with two doorways on either end leading to the same upper hallway. Lining the northern wall is a video game screen that doubles as an office space, and a total of 22 Shadowguys are occupying it. Kris can occupy the vacant console and destroy the Shadowguys' contracts with the lawn mower, freeing the Shadowguys and adding 20 recruits to the recruit count. If the Sword Route has been completed, the system shuts down. Interacting with the vacant console makes the Shadowguys realize it is okay to leave. This action increases the recruit count as normal.

The upper hallway is another Stealth Zone split up by a small alcove containing Serious Trashy, a Ribbick NPC, and a chest containing a DeluxeDinner. To the west of the upper hallway is a video game bridge puzzle. Solving the puzzle unlocks a chest containing 300 POINTs.

Continuing from the lower hallway, the party enters another hallway with pillars in the foreground. The party hides behind one of the pillars and witnesses Tenna calling Ramb about Toriel's situation.

Concert

TV World location Concert.png
The Darkners Live concert

The Concert is the Lightners Live set, repurposed into a "Darkners Live" concert. The concert's attendees vary depending on a number of independent factors:[2]

  • If the Shadowguys in the Shadowguy hallway have been saved and have not been lost as a recruit, five of them can be seen playing in the concert, which is otherwise empty.
  • If less than five Darkners are LOST, a crowd can be seen cheering for the concert as the party walks by.

A SAVE Point is present at the end of the set.

Zapper crossroads

The next room is a large room consisting of a central square with offshoots leading to different areas on each corner. Two Zappers border the square and attack the party. The southwestern offshoot leads to a chest that triggers a cheering crowd, and the northeastern offshoot leads to a dead end, though backtracking triggers another crowd. The southeastern offshoot leads to the next area.

Second quiz room

The next area is a large maze with many sets of TV screens, some of which trigger quizzes. The southeastern and southwestern blocks of the maze contain hidden entryways to certain bonus rooms. The southeastern block contains a simple square room with a Goulden Sam and a Suilver Sam facing each other. Kris can make the cages either love or hate each other.

Bonus Zone

TV World location Bonus Zone.png
The "BONUS ZONE" room

The southwestern block contains a room dubbed the "BONUS ZONE", accessible by interacting with a section of 2 vertically-oriented green monitors. The doorway closes up after Tenna's battle, making the room inaccessible.

The room contains many chests being raided by Pippins, an ICE-E branded truck, various items owned by Tenna, and a total of 34 POINTs that the party can collect. The room ends in a large chest that was also raided by a Pippins.

The BONUS ZONE continues into another room containing a single wardrobe with a Pipis inside. If the Dealmaker or PuppetScarf is in the inventory or equipped to any character, and the Chapter 2 Weird Route was not completed, a scene with Spamton and Tenna plays in which the item turns into Spamton, and Tenna takes back the Pipis. Otherwise, a different scene plays in which Tenna leaves the Pipis behind for Kris to take for themselves.

Third Stealth Zone

Party and Darkners overworld stealth.gif
The party and various Darkners sneaking

After navigating the maze, the party enters another Stealth Zone with columns of TV screens periodically occupying the foreground. If no enemies were LOST, passing through the columns causes many Darkners to follow the party. When the party passes into a stationary searchlight, the Zapper that appears also follows the party. Returning to the room after exiting causes Goulden Sons to appear and transport the party across the hallway. Otherwise, the sequence is replaced with a standard Stealth Zone section, and Darkners will not follow the party.

Cooking Show

TV World location Cooking Show.png
The Cooking Show

The Cooking Show area is the Cooking Challenge minigame set, with many Shadowguys and Pippins in the background if they are not LOST. There is a SAVE Point at the beginning, and progressing forwards triggers a battle against Rouxls Kaard with Lanino and Elnina. After the battle, Lanino and Elnina are recruited, with Starwalker making an optional appearance if he is recruited in Chapter 1.

Boardwalks

Past the Cooking Show is a boardwalk section resembling those in the couch cliffs, with many dust piles scattered throughout. While progressing forward, Tenna's employees, including Lanino and Elnina, begin to quit due to his mistreatment. At the end of the boardwalk is a split path, with the northern split leading to the Green Room and the southern split leading to another boardwalk section with a Shuttah NPC. This section continues south into a small Stealth Zone with a slow-moving searchlight. The end of this room leads to a chest containing 1 POINT.

Nowhere

Passing into the searchlight summons a Zapper, which questions their identification. If Kris admits they are a cheater and asks to go "Nowhere", they are transported to an isolated backstage location. This location contains another video game puzzle that is an extension of the Lancer digging puzzle. If Kris uses HERO_AXE to throw the block from the Lancer puzzle to the other side of the river, they can solve the extended puzzle by pushing the block onto the pressure plate. From there, another room opens up which contains another video game console and a Bibliox who has a controller.

Bibliox screenshot hermit mumble.png
A Bibliox stands next to the TV puzzle in the Nowhere area

Playing the game console leads to a room with some couches, a drawer, a wardrobe, a table, a potted plant, and the Bibliox avatar. Talking to the Bibliox reveals that it has a "ticket to nowhere" and they placed it in a wardrobe, and they recommend going to the right. In the room to the right is a kitchen with a stove, sink, and fridge. Interacting with the wardrobe reveals that it is empty. When interacting with the Bibliox again after checking the wardrobe, they state that Kris had the ticket since they entered the room. This is a lie, as the ticket is not gained until that dialogue is seen.

If Kris obtained the Shadow Mantle before finishing this puzzle, the initial screen is shut off, but the next room opens up automatically. The Bibliox states that the TripTicket has been relocated under the Ball Machine.

Green Room

Green Room location.png
The Green Room

The Green Room is the break room during TV Time's Board 1 and 2. The rooms Kris can access depends on their rank at the end of each round.

Kris can choose to replay the secondary minigames of each round, such as the Cooking Show and Rock Video depending on their progress. Kris can also unlock and play the Monster Movie minigame, which adds it to the pool of minigames during Tenna's boss fight.

POINTs can be used to purchase items from the vending machines, or Dark Dollars can be exchanged for POINTs.

Cold Place

Cold Place location.png
The Cold Place

The Cold Place is a freezing area that can be found outside and at the far east side of the Green Room. The Dreemurr residence Fountain can be seen from a distance in this area. As Kris, Susie, and Ralsei venture further east in this area for the first time, they are mortified to see Toriel is asleep and captured.

After traversing TV World and reaching the Cold Place again, they battle Tenna, then the Knight.

Mancountry

Mancountry location.png
The initial area in Mancountry

Mancountry is a hidden location stylized after the 8-bit minigames from The Legend of Tenna. It is accessible after obtaining the TripTicket and escaping from a battle against Ribbicks via the CroakOnX ACT. It is home to the man and the Flying Aces, and is where Kris obtains the Egg.

Trivia

  • The "frozen waste", "watery basin", and "metal desert" mentioned as being part of the wasteland TV World was built upon appear to correspond to the Dreemurr residence's fridge, sink, and stovetop respectively.
  • TV World is referred to as "Teevie World" in Chapter 3's credits. Assets related to TV World's overworld tiles, especially the red carpet areas, are mostly named with the word teevie in the game files.
  • The tileset for the game present inside the Shadowguy Hallway resembles the one for interiors in EarthBound Beginnings.
  • Some stealth rooms in TV World have b3bs in their name. This is likely because they were part of the scrapped backstage area that was in between each "half" of Board 3.[3]
