Inventory
The Inventory is where Kris keeps consumables and Key Items in Deltarune. In the Dark World, it can be selected via the ITEM option on the far left of the menu. In Hometown, Kris instead has a Light World inventory.
In the Dark World, Kris has separate inventories for the four types of items: consumables, key items, weapons, and armors. Consumables can be stored in either the Pocket or Storage, whereas the other types of items cannot be placed in Storage.
The Pocket is one of the two locations that Kris can store items in Dark Worlds. Items in the Pocket can be accessed at any time.
A total of 12 consumable items can be kept in the Pocket. In the overworld, it can be accessed via the ITEM menu. Excluding Kris, party members often comment when given an item, and in certain cases, select consumables can be shared. In an encounter, the entire party can use any consumable via the ITEM command.
Several items have different effects depending whether they are used in the overworld or during an encounter. For example, the LancerCookie heals 1 or 4 HP in the overworld (depending on the Chapter), but heals 50 HP in an encounter.
TOSS causes the selected consumable to be discarded. Most items do not prompt unique dialogue, except for the Manual in Chapter 1 if Ralsei is in the party.
The key items inventory is used to store various important items. This includes the Cell Phone, side quest items such as BrokenCake, and the Egg. In some cases, Darkners such as Lancer, Rouxls Kaard, and Starwalker may also be placed in Kris's key item inventory.
Unlike consumables, key items cannot be tossed, sold, or be moved to Storage.
Weapons and armors are stored separately from consumables, and can be seen in the EQUIP menu. Similarly to consumables, party members also react when given equipment. Unlike consumable items, equipment cannot be sent to Storage. Up to 48 weapons and 48 armors can be held at once, and the tally can only be seen at a shop.

Starting in Chapter 2, Kris has access to item storage. Consumable items can be placed in either the Pocket or Storage, though equipment cannot. Storage can be accessed at SAVE points, which allows moving items between the Pocket and Storage. Items can also be sold directly to vendors from Storage, although the menu refers to this as "Sell Pocket Items". Storage is displayed as multiple pages of items, with 12 items per page.
While newly obtained items will be placed in the Pocket by default, if there is no space in the Pocket, items are automatically sent to Storage.[1] If both the Pocket and Storage are full, new consumable items cannot be obtained.
In Chapters 2 and 3, the Storage capacity is 24. In Chapter 4, the Storage capacity is 36. Despite not being released yet, the game's code shows that this limit remains at 36 in Chapter 5 and increases to 48 from Chapter 6 onward.[2]
If the Pocket is full, consumable items are automatically sent to Storage. If both the Pocket and Storage are full, new consumable items cannot be obtained. In Chapter 1, since Kris does not have Storage, this applies as soon as the Pocket inventory is full. In all Chapters, if the maximum number of either weapons or armors is reached, it is not possible to obtain more of that type of equipment.
Normally, if the party attempts to obtain an item without space for it, they simply cannot obtain that item — vendors will refuse to sell the item and chests are re-closed. However, in some cases, due to the surrounding context, there is special handling for the case that the party lacks inventory space, often with unique dialogue.
- Chapter 1
- In Forest, Lancer drops the LancerCookie if Kris chooses to purchase it and their inventory is full.
- In Card Castle, when receiving a free Choco Diamond from a Rudinn, Susie consumes it if the inventory is full.
- In ??????, after defeating Jevil, if Kris does not have enough space to accept his equipment, a chest that contains the item appears in Jevil's cell, though Jevil does not comment on the lack of space.[3]
- Chapter 2
- In Queen's Mansion's Basement, after defeating Spamton, he becomes irate if Kris does not have enough space to accept his equipment.[4] Spamton then leaves,[5] and his equipment can be obtained from a chest that appears in the next room.[6] If the item is not collected by the time the Cyber World is complete, this chest spawns near the cliff on the bottom left of Castle Town.
- In Cyber City on the Weird Route, if Kris has no room for more weapons when attempting to buy the ThornRing from Spamton, he refuses to sell it and specifically comments on there not being room for it despite there being room for a "boy".[7]
- Chapter 3
- When using the Ball Machine, if Kris does not have space for the prize, they receive 100 POINTs as consolation instead.
- When buying three TV Dinners at once from the Pippins imprisoned in a Goulden Sam, if the party does not have room for all three, the party receives as many as they can hold but the Pippins keeps the full amount paid, with the Pippins taunting the party about this fact.[8]
- After defeating the Shadow Mantle holder in the manhole dungeon, if Kris does not have room for more armor, a treasure chest containing the Shadow Mantle appears at Ramb's counter in the Green Room.[9]
- After defeating the Knight, if Kris does not have room for more weapons, picking up the BlackShard overwrites one of the weapons in the inventory.
- Chapter 4
- At the church, if Kris has met the criteria to obtain the AncientSweet but does not have room for it, Susie still reads out Asriel's letter to Catty, but never offers to give the AncientSweet to Kris.[10]
- After defeating the Hammer of Justice, if there is no room for more weapons, Susie complains that Kris collected too much junk,[11] and the Old Man suggests that they can collect the JusticeAxe later.[12] A treasure chest containing it appears in the Study.[13]

Kris has a different inventory when in Hometown. Excluding the Cell Phone, Light World items can be found here, such as the Ball of Junk, though certain objects such as Kris's knife do not appear in this menu. The menu itself resembles Undertale's Item menu, and functions as such. Items in the menu can be selected via "ITEM".
"USE" can cause select items to be used, such as refunding the Box of Heart Candy to Sans.
"INFO" prompts an item's flavor text, which is often unique from the Dark World flavor texts.
"DROP" also causes unique flavor text depending on the item. Most items cannot be dropped.

Key Items received from the Ball Machine no longer incorrectly persist outside of that room. This caused numerous issues, including not being able to receive the Shadow Crystal from a certain boss.
