Narration for Chapter 1's smorgasbord
A smorgasbord (JP: ビュッフェスタイル), also humorously formatted as a smorgasboard in Chapter 1, is a special encounter type in Deltarune. It involves three generic enemies, each of a different type. These encounters have three different types of bullets to represent each enemy, flying across the bullet board in tandem. Narration in Chapters 1 and 2 draws attention to the unique nature of these encounters.
A "smorgasbord" or smörgåsbord (lit. "sandwich-table") is a buffet-style meal of Swedish origin, consisting of various hot and cold dishes arranged in a table. The term is used to represent the variety of enemies in the encounter.

After visiting Card Castle, a respawning encounter against a Jigsawry, a Rudinn, and a Hathy appears in the Field, to the left of the treasure chest containing the Broken Key C. The intro narration describes it as "Smorgasboard", a portmanteau of "smorgasbord" and "board", due to Card Kingdom being partly composed of a checkerboard (the Great Board). It is represented by a Jigsawry on the overworld. The enemy composition is the three sole generic enemy types encountered in Field.

A respawning encounter against a Werewire, a Tasque, and a Virovirokun appears in Cyber Field, a screen to the right of the Music Shop. The intro narration describes it as "Smorgasbord 2", calling back to the "Smorgasboard" encounter from Chapter 1. It is represented by a Werewire on the overworld. The enemy composition is the three sole generic enemy types encountered in Cyber Field.
While not labeled as a smorgasbord itself, the second round against "Ch2 All Stars" in the Party Dojo contains an encounter against a Poppup, an Ambyu-Lance, and a Virovirokun.

While not labeled as a smorgasbord, a respawning encounter against a Balthizard, a Mizzle, and a Guei appears in the hallway of the 3rd Sanctuary containing the "FLOWER MAN" section of the prophecy. The intro narration describes the enemies as "Water, fire, air.", with the Balthizard representing air, the Mizzle representing water, and the Guei representing fire. It is represented by a Balthizard on the overworld.
