The Roaring

From Deltarune Wiki

If too much darkness is released...
Titans will emerge from the fountain...
And destroy everything.

Ralsei, Chapter 2

The Roaring (JP: 咆哮) is a part of the prophecy. It is explained by Ralsei near the end of Chapter 2.

Overview

The Roaring is an apocalyptic event brought about by an overabundance of Dark Fountains. If too many Fountains exist at once, the world will fall into chaos. Beings known as Titans will spawn and wreak destruction upon the land. All Darkners will eventually turn to stone. The Lightners, in turn, will be left to fend for themselves in eternal darkness.

Most Darkners seem to be unaware of the Roaring's consequences. Queen explains that she was not aware of the consequences additional Dark Fountains would bring, and King similarly believes that making more Dark Fountains and letting them consume the world would allow Darkners to rule it. Jevil appears to be the only Darkner other than Ralsei to know about the Roaring.[1]

Should the player decide to give up after a Game Over, the voice will claim "THEN THE WORLD WAS COVERED IN DARKNESS." This might imply that the events of the Roaring occur due to the absence of anyone capable of sealing the Dark Fountains.

Prophecy

Ralsei's explanation

When the LIGHT is subsumed by SHADOW
When the FOUNTAINS fill the sky
All will fall into CHAOS.
The TITANS will take form from the FOUNTAINS
And envelop the land in devastation.
The surviving Darkners, crushed by the darkness
Will slowly, one by one, turn into statues...
Leaving the Lightners to fend for themselves
Lost eternally in an endless night...
Is that your idea of paradise?

Ralsei's summary (Weird Route)

If too much darkness is released...
Titans will emerge from the fountain...
And destroy everything.
All Darkners will turn into statues...
And all Lightners will be lost in eternal chaos.

Trivia

  • In the cutscene's depiction of the Roaring, the Titan in the middle is shown to bear eye markings that match those found engraved on the walls in the unnamed cliffs area of the closet Dark World.
    • Additionally, the Titans shown on either side of the middle one heavily resemble the Knight, suggesting a possible connection between them.
  • The Knight's final, screen-wide attack used during its encounter in Chapter 3 is internally referred to as roaring. It is unknown if this attack directly relates to the concept of the Roaring.
