Mike
So who is Mike!? Who is he!? Is he just Tenna's imaginary friend!?
Is he Tenna's alter-ego!? Like some alternate personality or something?!
And why the hell does he get so much love and attention!?Green Pippins, Chapter 4
Mike (JP: マイク) is a currently unseen character in Deltarune. He is mentioned numerous times by Spamton, and initially appears to be a producer of TV Time, following instructions from Tenna. While an optional boss in Chapter 4 reveals that three impersonators have been acting as the "Mike" Tenna calls upon during Chapter 3, the identity of the original Mike remains unknown.
The real Mike does not have a confirmed appearance as of Chapter 4.

The first of the impersonators, Small Mike (JP: スモール・マイク) (initially self-referred as "Motormouth Mike"), is an anthropomorphic Darkner with no eyes and a large smile. He has a microphone for a head with a combover and is about Susie's size. He wears a suit with a red bow tie and white gloves, and holds a microphone in his right hand. His combover disappears when he is in the Mikes' ultimate attack ball. He is actually a green Pippins in disguise.
The second, Cat Mike (JP: キャット・マイク), is a black-and-white cat with a white outline, giving him a shadow-like appearance. He has yellow and pink eyes akin to FRIEND or Spamton, microphones instead of hands and feet, as well as a tail with a small mouth on the end. He wears a red bow tie on his neck. He is actually a Shadowguy in disguise. His design may be in reference to a "dead cat", a type of windscreen used on microphones to reduce the sound of wind being picked up.
The third, Cowboy Hat Mike (JP: カウボーイハット・マイク), is a large anthropomorphic microphone with a long, rectangular microphone for a head, boxing gloves on their hands, and a cowboy hat. In Mike's room, they wear a large red bow tie on their neck, but this is not present during battle or while participating in their minigame. They are actually a Zapper in disguise.
To the right of Mike's room is a giant, photorealistic microphone temporarily revealed by waiting in the dark at the end of the hallway. Its existence is possibly a pun on the fact it is a "real" Mike ("real mic"); however, it is unknown if it is the real Mike.
As he is currently unseen as of Chapter 4, the real Mike's personality is unknown.
Small Mike takes his job as an impersonator very seriously, acting out the most elaborate portrayal of Mike and expressing annoyance with his fellow impersonators for not acting the part. As Motormouth Mike, he talks constantly, claims to be Tenna's most trusted friend and helper, recites a long list of Mike's responsibilities, and is vehemently protective of the battle room. He tries to keep up the act after his companions' identities are revealed, claiming to be the only real Mike and urging the party to beat the others up for being fake before Cat Mike strips away his costume as well. After finally admitting he is not Mike either, he reveals that he is obsessed with discovering Mike's true identity to the point of having gathered evidence for a series of questionable theories. Though he claims that none of them ever wanted to be Mike and that he dislikes the extra duties that Tenna foisted upon the three, he adamantly insists that he is the real Mike after the Mike minigames are unlocked and gets irritated if either of the other two Mikes have a higher score than he does, which is a quality the other two do not express.
Cat Mike does not speak, instead only dancing, and is described as the Mike "who listens". Cowboy Hat Mike sometimes forgets that he is involved due to silence, but agrees that there has to be a Mike who listens. Otherwise, Cat Mike remains generally upbeat, only frowning after considerable prompting from Small Mike or slumping in dejection when the three might not have to act as Mike anymore. He seems to be very invested in his cat-like role, as he wears his costume even when it is not necessary, plays with yarn, and asks to be known as "Pluey".[7] When Small Mike tries to throw the other two under the bus, Cat Mike takes the initiative to reveal Small Mike's identity. He is a fan of jazz music and enjoys the battle theme a little too much.
Cowboy Hat Mike is more relaxed than Small Mike in their job of being an impersonator, not knowing how to act like Mike and forgetting their lines when they are confronted by the party. They consider themselves the "muscle" of the three Mikes and are laconic about their role, wondering why they cannot say whatever they want while in their own Mike persona and whether impersonating Mike for so long means the trio is Mike when acting as him. If Tenna is no longer present, they conclude that the three of them can keep being Mike for as long as they want. They are not competitive about the minigame scores, telling the party to talk to the "little guys" for more information when they do not possess the highest score of the three.
The giant microphone does not show any signs of personality.
Mike serves as a pun on the word "mic", a shortening of "microphone". This ties into the trio's role as the unseen producers of TV Time. The name itself is a shortened form of the name "Michael".
Due to Spamton being the first character to mention Mike's name, and his association with the phrase "big shot" and the year 1997, Mike's name may originate from a 1997 commercial for "Big Shot" soda featuring then New Orleans Saints Head Coach Mike Ditka. Alternatively, Mike's name may be a reference to the Touhou Project character Mike Goutokuji, due to her using the phrase "big shots" in her dialogue.[9]
In Chapter 2, Mike is only mentioned by Spamton during shop dialogue, and by defeating Spamton NEO violently.
When asked about "FRIENDS", Spamton expresses no need for friends or Mike. After he mentions Mike's name, Spamton is brought to a brief and unusual state of mourning. Afterwards, Spamton warns Kris to not believe "[[Anything You See On TV!]]". Due to him mentioning Mike while talking about friends, it is likely that Spamton once considered Mike to be someone important to him.
Defeating Spamton NEO with violence will result in his attempt to transform into Spamton EX. Before imploding, he calls out to Mike in hope that he is being watched as he is "FINALLY GONNA BE A BIG SHOT!!!".

Mike does not appear in Chapter 3, but is mentioned many times by Tenna, primarily to aid in set-up for TV Time and its various events. Supposedly, Mike has a room in TV World that Tenna visits, but the room's exact location within TV World remains unknown.[10]
Mike is Tenna's final ally and employee to leave him near the end of the Chapter, and it is his departure that causes Tenna the most grief. Even after Mike leaves, Tenna still talks to Mike as the party battles him, hoping the latter is still there.
Visiting Castle Town after attending church service will reveal a new TV Studio. If Pippins, Shadowguy, and Zapper are recruited, a locked door labelled "MIKE" will be present. The door is unlocked via a 4-digit code, leading to the MIKE ZONE.

Although the door can be unlocked at any time, the code is only revealed upon completing Chapter 4 and reloading a SAVE file that has defeated the Sound of Justice, which reveals a passage to Castle Town, and a direct path to TV Studio. A note is left next to the locked door, revealing the code as "6453". These numbers spell out "MIKE" on a touch-tone dial pad.
In the PC version, a transformed Maus is used to pet cat statues to progress through the MIKE ZONE, and microphone controls are used to open a door labelled "MIKE". In the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the game, two Maice are controlled using the system's dual mouse controls, which can pet the cat statues simultaneously in order to progress through the MIKE ZONE. The door labelled "MIKE" is opened by pulling both Maice apart from each other.
Going through the "MIKE" door leads to an empty dark room, where Small Mike, who is initially unseen, berates Kris for ignoring the label on the door. He accuses them of being an impostor Mike, then appears from the top of the screen, introducing himself as the one real Mike before attacking them.

Shortly into the fight, Small Mike leaves and returns with a different cat-like appearance (Cat Mike). This cat-like version later leaves too, leaving a third large Mike to take his place (Cowboy Hat Mike). Afterwards, all three Mikes come out and reveal the secret that there is more than one of them. After they use their final attack, Cat Mike and Cowboy Hat Mike decide to use their "real attacks" and reveal themselves to actually be a Shadowguy and Zapper respectively.
Small Mike forcibly ends the battle before attempting to convince Kris they are the real one and that the other two should be beaten up, only for the Shadowguy to remove Small Mike's costume, revealing he was actually a green Pippins in disguise. The Pippins reveals that Mike has never actually been seen in the room, and that the three of them have been taking turns pretending to be Mike whenever Tenna wants his services or visits the Mike room. He also admits to them never having seen the original Mike, rambling on to the point of intense theorizing about Mike's nature and existence.

After the three "Mikes" leave, walking to the right reveals a gigantic, photo-realistic microphone at the end of a hallway. Whether this is the real Mike is never confirmed.
Returning to Mike's room reveals the three "Mikes" have returned, deciding that while there cannot be no Mike, there cannot be more than one Mike either, and seek Kris's help in determining who the one, true Mike is, unlocking their minigames.
An optional cutscene at Castle Town seen in Chapter 5 will feature the three Mike impersonators, being accessible only if the optional fake Mikes boss is fought.[11] The scene's background music is the unused stealth track initially meant for Chapter 3.

In an otherwise empty room that resembles the battle room, Cowboy Hat Mike stands by the door; Small Mike reclines on a lounge chair, wincing at each sip of a green drink with a red straw; and Cat Mike, the only one in his Mike costume, bats a yarn ball above him with all four paws. Cowboy Hat Mike hears a knock and asks whether it could be Tenna. Small Mike calls them "rubberbrain" and retorts that Tenna's knock would be more "glooby".
Fed up with the painful drink, Small Mike asks Cowboy Hat Mike, who got it for him, what it is, and is incredulous when told it is battery acid. Cowboy Hat Mike tells him about their theory that since he is green, he would look good with a green drink. Small Mike seethes that something looking cool does not make it correct. Regardless, he evidently finds the argument compelling and continues sipping the stinging acid.
A continuation of the scene occurs if Tenna is recruited to Castle Town.[7] The scene's background music consists of the unused stealth track, then MIKE, the BOARD, please! at various pitches, then a slowed-down rendition of Dump.
The Mikes are interrupted by a reverberating splat sound effect, causing Small Mike to become alert. Assuming this is Tenna's "glooby" knock, the Mikes change into their costumes. However, in the trio's hurry, Small Mike and Cowboy Hat Mike accidentally swap costumes. The source of the knock is revealed to be Kris, leading Small Mike and Cowboy Hat Mike to shed their costumes again. Small Mike asks Cat Mike if he will ever take his costume off, and admits he does not know his name, to which Cat Mike responds with a saxophone riff. It is revealed that Cat Mike wishes to be called "Pluey", much to Small Mike's dismay as "PLUEY is the name of the MINIGAME".

A similar knock as before, this time deeper, interrupts the conversation. This time, it is Tenna, who announces that he needs an antenna massage. In the rush to get their costumes on, Cowboy Hat Mike and Pluey exit, leaving Kris and Small Mike, who is costumeless, alone in the room. Tenna enters, and asks Small Mike where Pluey is. Small Mike again insists that Pluey is the name of the minigame, and that "HIS NAME'S NOT PLUEY!!! IT'S MIKE". Tenna becomes annoyed with Small Mike and argues that sometimes Mike "IS a cute lil' Pluey", and orders him to fetch Mike. Small Mike concedes and exits the room to get into costume.
When he returns, Tenna seems disheartened that Mike is not very Pluey, but pays it no mind and impatiently awaits for a massage. Small Mike refuses to provide one or any further help, citing Tenna's poor treatment of his employees. Tenna insists this is not true, pointing out that he adds bonuses to his employees' contracts such as "fruit-flavored vacation" and "left over glooby slime".

Tenna then becomes more melancholy and says he knows why Small Mike is really upset with him. He reveals that Mike had told him previously that he had a "bad feeling about that contract", referencing Spamton. Mike had said that if Spamton had signed his contract, something terrible would happen. Tenna knew this, but made Spamton sign the contract anyway. Nevertheless, Tenna insists that it is not his fault, and that he could have helped Spamton had he not run out on him. Small Mike removes the headpiece of his costume as Tenna says that Mike cared about Spamton, too. Tenna does not notice this, and proceeds to confess that Mike and everything else has felt fake since Spamton's departure, stating that "it feels like [Mike's] not really here".
Small Mike puts his headpiece back on, and asks to see the part of his contract that discusses fruit-flavored vacations. Tenna says that he will add it, as well as the aforementioned "slime". He then becomes solemn again, saying that he can never forget the slime. Small Mike excuses himself, saying he needs to get more Pluey, to which Tenna appears grateful.
Tenna heads for the door to the room, and stops to talk to Kris on his way out. He tells them that "The size of Mike's ass, seems really variable lately", and asks them to keep an eye on it for him, before leaving.
Andy Brophy is the creator of the three Mikes.[12]
During the Spamton Sweepstakes, Spamton reacts negatively to a question about Mike's identity, angrily asking if the questioner is "ONE OF THAT [Cathode]'S CREW" and stating that "YOU GUYS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MIKE!! NOTHING!!!" This may reference the three Mikes attempting to replicate the "original" one and their attempts to find who he is, and may also suggest that Spamton became aware of them at some point.
The TP bar is replaced with a volume bar, which can be manipulated by speaking into a microphone, or with R2 on PlayStation and ZR on Switch. On PC, there is also an option in the microphone settings to use keyboard controls. Louder sounds into the microphone cause the volume bar to increase higher.
The volume bar controls vertical acceleration; if the volume is high, the bullet board (and SOUL) moves up, and if it's low it moves down. Horizontal movement is impossible.
Small Mike has a sign which gives three different commands. Several commands come in a row each turn.
- APPLAUSE: An audience of clapping microphones rise from the bottom of the screen. On the first turn, a wave of microphones come from the right side of the screen beforehand.
- SHUT UP!!: Audience members drop from the top of the screen with a shushing gesture. The music also becomes silent.
- NORMAL VOLUME...: Audience members come from the right side of the screen, moving left, and extend to various lengths. Does not occur on the first turn.
The transformed Maus appears. The bullet board moves vertically with volume as it did before.
- Cat Barrage: White cats come from all corners of the screen. They can be petted with the Maus hand; doing so makes them disappear. If any cats are not pet, they slowly become red and spit furballs at the SOUL.
- Sleeping Cats: Four large sleeping cats surround the SOUL. The bullet board must be moved to reach all the cats and pet them. If any cat is not pet, it slowly becomes red before waking up and spitting furballs at the SOUL. Unlike Cat Barrage, the cats do not disappear when pet; it only makes them stop being red.
- Cat Walls: Similar to attacks from Small Mike, a sign stating "NORMAL VOLUME..." drops, and audience members come from the right. There are also walls of cats; cats that collide with the SOUL deal damage, and any cats not pet spit furballs after passing the Maus's range.
The volume bar now controls horizontal movement; high volume makes the bullet board move, while low volume makes it stop. The board moves along a predetermined line, and reverses direction of movement when it reaches the edge of the line. The Maus is not present in these attacks.
- White Paws: Large cat paws attack from either the ceiling or floor. They are signaled with a flashing red rectangle.
- Black Paws: Small cat paws drop from the ceiling.
- White Paws 2: As before, large paws attack the SOUL. Sometimes, two paws attack simultaneously, on the two edges, leaving only a small area in the center safe.
The transformed Maus appears again. The bullet board moves horizontally with volume as it did before.
- Blue Cats: Blue cats must be grabbed and placed into a tub, akin to the Pluey minigame. White cats also appear to obstruct the player. The attack ends when five are placed.
- Sleeping Cats 2: Two large cats (as in Sleeping Cats) on opposite sides must be pet while large paws (as in White Paws) drop from the ceiling.
- Ultimate Attack: For the Mikes' ultimate attack, they form a ball and drop on the SOUL. The Mikes must be pet to end the attack. After being pet a certain amount of times, the ball becomes much smaller and faster, making it difficult to pet. Two large cats on opposite sides must also be pet.
There are two Maice available, each controllable with a JoyCon 2. Typically, one is on the Left while the other is on the Right.
The SOUL does not move, but the Maice are available to defend against attacks.
- Cat Faces: Two cat faces appear either below or above the SOUL; they must be pet to make them disappear. After, white cats come from all corners of the screen, which also disappear when pet. If any cats are not pet, they vibrate with a red aura, before becoming red and spitting furballs at the SOUL. They then walk back offscreen.
- Cat Faces 2: The white cats portion of the above attack, but significantly denser.
Only the direction of the Maice from the SOUL matters, as they remain at a fixed distance.
- Match Hands: A cat within a circle with six, different colored sections appears. The cat puts its hands in two different sections and the player is expected to match it. After two sets, another cat appears, and the player is expected to match after the other two have posed. If done successfully, the cat(s) give applause and "MATCH!" appears onscreen.
- Match Hands 2: The two cats pose much faster. At the end of the turn, the cats will use six hands to fill all six segments. The SOUL, only having two hands, cannot match the pose. This shocks the cats and causes them to say "Oops..." and move offscreen.
- Shield Mode: The hands change to shield the SOUL. White cats come from all corners of the screen and spit furballs towards the SOUL before retreating. The furballs can be blocked with the shields. The attack ends with the cats spitting in a spiral shape.
- Shield Mode 2: A faster version of Shield Mode with two cats firing at once.
- Pluey: The left Maus becomes a pair of shoes that controls walking. The right Maus remains as a hand which can pick up blue cats from the left and place them in a basket at the right. From the sky, rain projectiles fall. There are shelters on the left and right sides that stop the rain. If too much time passes, a wave of homing red rain appears. (This attack is reminiscent of the Pluey Mike minigame.)
- Pluey 2: Blue cats now rain from the sky rather than appearing under the shelter at the left. Four blue cats must be placed for the attack to end.
- Mixed Hands: The left Maus hand enters shield mode. White cats appear from both sides of the screen; cats on the left side spit furballs at the SOUL which must be blocked with the shield hand, while cats on the right side must be pet before they become enraged.
- Sticky Hands: The beginning of this attack is a faster version of Shield Mode. After all cats are dealt with, one will walk from the left and stick onto the Maus hand. Then other cats will come from all over and stick onto the hands and each other before leaving.
- Keep Away: On the right side of the screen, a cat approaches the SOUL. It can be slapped away, which causes it to jump back and increase in speed each time. On the left side, a massive ball of cats also approaches the SOUL. It can also be slapped away, causing it to roll back and increase in speed. At the end of the turn, the ball collapses while the cat on the right explodes.
- Airwaves: The Maus hands are in shield mode as waves of furballs approach and must be blocked by them. After, Small Mike mocks the player's inability to hit them and commands another Mike to attack the SOUL with cats. The cats stick to the Maus hands and can be used to hit the Mikes. The cats will then walk away. (This attack is reminiscent of the Air Waves Mike minigame.)
Turns are progressed by interacting with either a party member or a Mike with the Maus. Attack patterns are fixed regardless of who is interacted with, with the battle ending in 12 turns (13 turns on Nintendo Switch 2). Interacting with a party member heals them; 120 HP the first time, 80 HP the second, 40 HP the third, and 20 HP the fourth.
- Interacting with Kris produces a fruit.
- Interacting with Susie makes her bite the hand, threatening to take off a finger.
- Interacting with any Mike or Ralsei pets them.
If microphone settings are being used on the PC version, the battle will feature an Adjust Sensitivity bar which changes the microphone sensitivity, so quieter sounds raise the volume bar more or less. The bar can be adjusted with the Maus.

- [Pippins] ...
- [Pippins] All right. I admit it. None of us are actually Mike.
- [Pippins] We're just kind of... in charge of Mike's room. Unofficially.
- [Pippins] Tenna's always talking to Mike, right...?
- [Pippins] Well, ya see, sometimes he wants to come to this room and... "visit" him.
- [Pippins] It's been that way since TV world!
- [Pippins] But he gets really moody if Mike isn't there... And takes it out on us.
- [Pippins] Now, here's the thing about that.
- [Pippins] Mike has NEVER been here!!! Not ONCE!!!
- [Pippins] And in order to stop Tenna from getting his nose twisted up...
- [Pippins] We just started taking turns pretending to be him!
- [Pippins] And you know what the weird thing is!? It actually worked!!!
- [Pippins] As long as there's a Mike, Tenna actually believes it!!
- [Pippins] Obviously, we couldn't let you in here, or you'd snitch.
- [Pippins] ... But it's too late now. Our conspiracy is busted.
- [Pippins] ... Just, before you tell Tenna, lemme ask you one last thing.
- [Pippins] Who's Mike?! Who is he?!
- [Pippins] 'cause none of us have ever seen him! None of us! Ever!
- [Pippins] Every time Tenna asks Mike to do something, it's either like...
- [Pippins] He just does it himself, we do it secretly, or...
- [Pippins] It just sorta happens!
- [Pippins] So who is Mike!? Who is he!? Is he just Tenna's imaginary friend!?
- [Pippins] Is he Tenna's alter-ego!? Like some alternate personality or something?!
- [Pippins] And why the hell does he get so much love and attention!?
- [Pippins] If the weather guys are second-in-command, what does that make him?!
- [Zapper] Uh, what if it's us?
- [Pippins] Us?
- [Zapper] Yeah, we been pretending to be Mike doin' stuff...
- [Zapper] What if when we pretend to be Mike, we's actually Mike?
- [Pippins] What?
- [Pippins] It's ALWAYS been us!?
- [Pippins] Then where'd the idea of Mike come from in the first place?
- [Zapper] Beats me...
- [Pippins] This doesn't make any sense!!
- [If Susie and Ralsei aren't in the party]
- [Pippins] What about you!? You came to this room...
- [Pippins] Are YOU Mike?! Are you!?
- [If Susie and Ralsei are in the party]
- [Pippins] What about you guys!? You came to this room...
- [Pippins] Are YOU guys Mike?! Are you!?
- [If Susie and Ralsei aren't in the party]
- [Pippins] Huh!? Are ya!? Are ya!?
- [Pippins] Ahhhh, I give up! As long as someone's Mike, it'll work out! [If Tenna is in Castle Town or Susie and Ralsei aren't in the party]
- [If Tenna was left broken or given to the nobody]
- [Pippins] Ahhhh, I give up! It's time to face the music.
- [Pippins] Go ahead... snitch to Tenna.
- [Susie] Dude, we gave him away. He's not even in this Dark World anymore. [If Tenna was given to the nobody]
- [Susie] Tenna... he's... he's, uh, not in this Dark World, y'know. [Unused[Note 1]]
- [Pippins] H-huh!? You mean... We... We...
- [Zapper] We can keep pretendin's to be Mike as long as we's want!?
- [Pippins] We never WANTED to be Mike, you big bozo!
- [Pippins] Now let's get outta here, before something WEIRD happens!
- [After either post battle dialogue, if Susie and Ralsei are in the party]
- [Ralsei] I suppose... we also. Don't need to be here.
- [Susie] ... yeah...
- Small Mike
- [Small Mike] Mi-hi-hi-hi-hyike! What's up!? It's me, the REAL Mike!
- [Nothing]
- [Small Mike] Tenna always said "Mike acted different" after the other guy left.
- [Small Mike] WHAT other guy!? WHAT different!?
- [Why]
- [Small Mike] A few minutes outta this room... and we all decided we couldn't take it!!
- [Small Mike] There CAN'T be no MIKE!! And there CAN'T be more than ONE Mike!!
- [Small Mike] So which one of us the REAL one!?
- [Small Mike] ... that's where YOU come in, see?
- [Small Mike] See, the REAL Mike would be the STRONGEST, right!?
- [Small Mike] So each of us is ready to fight you again... MINI-GAME STYLE!

- The code to Mike's room, "6453", matches the letter placements on a phone dial: M is under 6, I is under 4, K is under 5, and E is under 3.
- In Mike's room, if the player does not pet the tall statue, the narration states "(You pet Ralsei and Susie instead.)" In that instance, Ralsei will say "Yo--sh!", which is probably a reference to the Japanese expression Dr. Eggman uses in Sonic Adventure 2 when petting a Chao.
- Small Mike's line "Mee-yike, that's right!" may be a reference to Meowth's final line of Team Rocket's original motto in Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, "Meowth, that's right!"
- In the Japanese translation of Deltarune, Small Mike's line 「ミャァース! マイクニコバーン!」 (Myāsu! Maiku ni kobān!) similarly references Meowth, as well as the Meowth evolution line's signature move, Pay Day. ミャァース (myāsu) is a play on Meowth's Japanese name, ニャース (Nyāsu). マイクニコバーン (Maiku ni kobān, lit. "gold coins for Mike") is a play on the Japanese idiom 猫に小判 (neko ni koban, lit. "gold coins for a cat"), to "cast pearls before swine", and this idiom is the Japanese name for the move Pay Day.
- Mike's encounter contains several references to popular Deltarune fan theories that were proposed prior to Chapter 3 and 4's release, particularly ones attempting to predict Chapter 3's Shadow Crystal boss.
- The Jongler minigame's name first appears on a book found in Kris's room in Queen's Mansion, "Jongler's Book On Jongleing And Other Tricks". The minigame may reference how some members of the community had thought that a character named "Jongler" would be a secret boss fight in Chapter 3.
- Cowboy Hat Mike's cowboy-like design may be referencing the popular "Woody Theory", the theory that Toby Fox's "friend inside me" post was foreshadowing a secret battle against a cowboy in Chapter 3.[13] This is further supported when Small Mike mentions having "friends on the inside" while discussing Cowboy Hat Mike, a likely reference to the phrase "friend inside me".
- Cat Mike appears to be a cat with similar pink and yellow eyes to FRIEND. This and Small Mike's dialogue when Cat Mike has the highest score[14] are likely in reference to theories that posited that FRIEND was Mike.
- Green Pippins's costume and his speculation that Mike is an alternate personality of Tenna may be a nod to the fan theory that Mike is the Dreemurr residence's TV as seen in the ending of Chapter 2, and a specific fan design of "Mike" by Mr. Luwigi.[15]
- Cat Mike's preferred name of "Pluey" and Small Mike's annoyance at it are a reference to debates within the fandom after the release of Chapter 3 and 4 regarding whether to distinguish the Mikes using the names of their minigames, with Pluey being Cat Mike's minigame on most versions but Small Mike's minigame on the Nintendo Switch 2 version.
- The newsletter that revealed a plush for Cat Mike also described the reveal as "merch that is Newer and Pluer than any before", while the actual merchandise items are specifically named "Cat Mike (Pluey) Clip-On Plush" and "Green Pippins (Battat) Clip-On Plush".
- After the first round of the fight, Kris, Susie, and Ralsei (if the latter two are present) will begin dancing until the end of the fight.
- During the fight, a couple of the Mike impersonators have flavor text alluding to their true nature.
- Cat Mike is described as being "too into the jazz music", referencing the Shadowguys' penchant for playing jazz music.
- Cowboy Hat Mike "considers manipulating the volume", alluding to the Zappers' "VolumeUp" and "Mute" ACTs.
- The battle flavor text "Smells like dried gel pen". is likely in reference to the Cat Petters RPG cartridge that can be found under Asriel's bed in the Dreemurr residence, which is described as having been written on in gel pen.[16]
- The /rain/ page on deltarune.com contains a blog post from Noelle describing the minigames in Cat Petters, and mentions that the same minigames appear in "Cat Petters The RPG". The games described on this page are clear references to the minigames offered by the Mikes after their battle, with both a mention of a game titled "JONGLER" and a description of a game very similar to Battat.
- While Small Mike and Cat Mike's attacks reflect the appearance of their disguises, Cowboy Hat Mike instead uses cat-themed attacks that do not particularly fit their cowboy theming.

- Green Pippins's speculation on Mike's identity is likely a reference the popular "Pepe Silvia" meme from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, featuring a crazed Charlie Day in front of a conspiracy board.
- After defeating the main boss fight and gaining access to the minigame room, moving the Mikes so that they are next to each other will make the overlapping Mikes blush.
