No trophies

The voice noting that the player avoided all trophies, as Neverending Night plays

If all four Chapters are completed without obtaining any trophies, the voice's comment to the player at the end of Chapter 4's credits will change. Instead of noting the attainment of "THE HALFWAY MARK", they will note how peculiar it is that the player "FAILED TO ACHIEVE ANY MARKS".[8]

Requirements for avoiding all trophies include, but are not limited to:

  • No deaths
  • A minimal number of hits
  • Using no items, and only using base equipment
  • Avoiding certain interactions with certain rooms, objects, or NPCs
  • Progressing through certain events within a time limit
  • Completing Tenna's TV Time end-of-round minigames with a Z-rank
  • Collecting every Egg in each Chapter
  • No Weird Route
  • No Sword Route
  • No copying/deleting any SAVE files

In the Release Time Newsletter, it is explained that a player will only properly earn a trophy after leaving the current room where that trophy's requirements were met. Therefore, even after completing a trophy requirement, the player may close the game before receiving that trophy.[9]

History

On April 2, 2025, Toby Fox announced via the Newsletter that the trophies were mandated for the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. He states that they "give rise to a pretty hard-core challenge"; however, he does not endorse players to complete it.[10] Additionally, during Deltarune's development, Toby has commented that he is uncertain that the playtesters would enjoy completing them.[11]

Contrary to Toby's description of the achievements as giving rise to a "hard-core challenge", almost all of the achievements are easy to acquire when playing normally. This, combined with the voice's special dialogue for completing all four Chapters without trophies, indicates that the intended "hard-core challenge" is to avoid getting any trophies at all.

Trivia

  • The numbers the criteria for the "PAIN" trophies use follow the pattern n2+n+2, with n being the Chapter number.
    • This would make the next numbers used for the "PAIN" trophies 32, 44, and 58, corresponding to Chapters 5, 6, and 7 respectively should the pattern continue.

  9. The way things are set up, you'll only receive a trophy once the current "room" where you unlocked it ends. You'll miss getting it if you turn off the game before then. So be careful while completing all four chapters. Especially, there may be certain conditions where you will miss acquiring the CHAPTER END trophies. 10. We were required to have TROPHIES! This time, they give rise to a pretty hard-core challenge. But - and PLEASE listen - I make no endorsement that you actually attempt it! Even knowing of its mere existence will only bring you frustration and anguish! Honestly, it may be one of the worst ideas I've ever had.DELTARUNE CHAPTERS 1-4 RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCEMENT, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter (Toby Fox, April 02, 2025.) toby.fangamer.com.
  11. PlayStation makes it a requirement to have trophies (achievements), so those will be one of the things that have to be tested.

I don't think they're going to like testing the trophies though
