Shortcut door

From Deltarune Wiki

... Where'd this door come from?
Dunno... come to think of it, I've never seen it before.

Jigsaw Joe, Chapter 1

Shortcut doors[1][2] are a type of recurring Dark World door in Deltarune. The party can use them to fast travel to previously-visited areas after reaching a later location in a Chapter. In Chapter 2, the shortcut door is the only way to go back to these areas.

Before being activated, the shortcut door appears as a simple, dark doorframe which the party cannot see through. After activation, it becomes a door with a flickering fire emanating from underneath it.

Locations

Chapter 1

Name Region Location Activation requirement
Field Field In the room east of Seam's Shop. Reach the Forest shortcut door.
Forest Forest At the Forest entrance, in the room east of the Great Board. Reach this shortcut door.
Bake Sale Forest In the Bake Sale room, on the west side of the room. Reach this shortcut door.
Castle Forest At the end of the Forest, in the room just before the entrance to Card Castle. Enter Card Castle.

At the Forest shortcut door, Mr. Elegance claims that he and Mr. Society fixed the shortcut door for the party.

If the party interacted with Jigsaw Joe before reaching this shortcut door, he is also present and mentions he helped fix the door. If Kris talks to him again, he states he does not know where the door came from, and has "never seen it before". Mr. Elegance mentions that the three of them worked on it together, so they are confident the door will work. If the party did not interact with Jigsaw Joe, Mr. Elegance expresses concern that it might malfunction, because only the two of them worked on it.

If Kris talks to Mr. Elegance after escaping prison, he states that the "door'll go even further than before". Though, Mr. Elegance adds that he is "Not sure'n what we did to make it work like that, but..."

Chapter 2

Name Region Location Activation requirement
Cyber Field Cyber Field In the room south of Sweet Cap'n Cakes's shop. Unlock the Mansion shortcut door.
Trash Zone Cyber City In the Trash Zone, near the entrance to Cyber City. Unlock the Mansion shortcut door.
Mansion Queen's Mansion At the mansion entrance, in the same area as Swatch's shop. Reach the entrance room from its left hallway.

Since the left hallway from the entrance room is blocked off by a forcefield on the Weird Route, this means that all of the Chapter 2 shortcut doors never activate, permanently remaining as empty doorframes.

(If a glitch is used to reach the mansion entrance on the normal route without going through the left hallway plot segment first, the shortcut door will be disabled. If the player then walks into the left hallway and back to the entrance, the shortcut door will become activated.)

Chapter 3

Name Region Location Activation requirement
TV World Entrance TV World In the first room the party travels to after escaping from Tenna's ball cages. Reach the red carpet hall after escaping from Tenna.
Goulden Sam TV World In the room with the Goulden Sam that marks the midway point of the TV World. Reach the red carpet hall after escaping from Tenna.
Green Room Green Room In the hall leading up into the Green Room, to the west of its entrance doors. Reach the red carpet hall after escaping from Tenna.

Chapter 4

In the Dark Sanctuaries, shortcut doors are replaced with differently colored Guei flames, known as "warp flames" internally,[3] that function similarly. The colors correspond to where they warp to.

Color Region Location Activation requirement
Green Dark Sanctuary Near the Great Door leading to the 3rd Sanctuary Restore the Dark Sanctuary after navigating the 2nd Sanctuary.
Green Study Blocking the entryway to the fireplace Restore the Dark Sanctuary after navigating the 2nd Sanctuary.
Pink 3rd Sanctuary Entrance area, above the bend to the right Reach the Stairs area.
Pink 3rd Sanctuary Stairs area, to the left of the bell Reach the Stairs area.
Red 3rd Sanctuary Stairs area, to the right of the spring Reach the Last Chamber.
Red 3rd Sanctuary Last Chamber Reach the Last Chamber.

Trivia

  • The shortcut door's sprite is reused from Undertale. In Undertale, it was used as the door to Sans's room.
  • In Chapter 2, it is possible to perform a glitch where the empty Cyber Field doorframe brings up its activated textbox instead of its deactivated textbox, allowing the player to pick a warp destination. If the player picks Queen's Mansion, they will skip Cyber City entirely.[4]
    • During the Deltarune: Chapter 2 Main Route event at Awesome Games Done Quick 2022, Toby Fox had donated $1997 to the stream, stating, "Here's 1997 KROMER so that we can see Spamton in DELTARUNE Chapter 2! .. What!? He's not in the run!?" This references that Spamton is never encountered in the run due to the skip.
