Spell

From Deltarune Wiki
(Redirected from Scythemare)

Spells (JP: まほう) are a mechanic in Deltarune which certain party members can use while in a Dark World. Excluding overworld cutscenes, spells require TP, and can be cast from the MAGIC button during enemy encounters.

Spells have a variety of effects, including harming enemies, healing allies, and pacifying enemies. The power of offensive and healing spells mostly depends on the user's Magic stat, and sometimes the Attack stat as well. A party member's equipment may also influence spells by decreasing TP.

Certain bosses can also cause unique Spells to appear in Kris's ACT menu, and uses both Kris and the spell user's turn when selected. It causes Kris's SOUL to shine its power on the user for an enhanced Spell. Certain Actions may also appear in an ally's Spell Menu, which can have an effect or require TP.

Susie

Susie's spells are primarily attack focused, with a few support spells versus certain bosses. All her "Buster" spells can deal increased damage by pressing [CONFIRM] before the projectile hits an enemy.[1]

Rude Buster

Rude Buster is Susie's primary attack spell that costs 50% TP. It deals moderately high damage to one enemy with a purple arrow projectile. Rude Buster becomes available once Susie rejoins the party in Card Castle in Chapter 1.

RedBuster

RedBuster is a powered-up version of Rude Buster that Susie can cast via Kris's ACT menu. It costs 60% TP, and is only available during the battles against King and Queen. The attack is a slightly larger hot-pink arrow projectile.

DualBuster

Dual Buster is an attack spell that does not cost TP, and Susie can only cast it via Kris's ACT menu. It is a significantly powered-up version of Rude Buster, in which Susie and the Old Man cast a buster-shaped spell simultaneously, dealing between 1950 and 2050 damage, though it does not scale with stats. It is exclusive to the battle against the Titan in Chapter 4.

Healing

Starting in Chapter 2, Susie learns a healing spell that gets renamed and evolves as the story progresses. It heals one party member by various amounts. Starting in Chapter 3, the healing spell improves with each use, costing less TP and healing more HP.

Scythemare

Scythemare is a support ACT that costs 40% TP and becomes available in Chapter 5. It pacifies every TIRED enemy on-screen.

Unique S-Actions

Unlike the usual S-Action, these Actions have unique names and effects, but are only available versus select bosses:

Supercharge

Supercharge is a support S-Action that costs 32% TP. Using it powers up the Yellow SOUL, greatly decreasing the time to charge a big shot and increasing its travel speed, the effect lasts for 20 big shots in total. It is exclusive to the battle against Spamton NEO in the basement of Queen's Mansion during Chapter 2.

TreasureHunt

Using this Act consumes 2% TP, but it allows the SOUL to collect Treasure from a further distance in the Jackenstein fight.

WakeKris

WakeKris is a support S-Action that costs 16% TP. If Kris is Downed when it is used, they are revived with 1 HP. Otherwise, it does nothing. It is exclusive to the battles against the Titan Spawn and the Titan in Chapter 4.

Ralsei

Ralsei's spells are centered around supporting the party via healing or helping SPARE enemies.

Heal Prayer

Heal Prayer is Ralsei's default healing spell that costs 32% TP. It heals one party member a significant amount. It becomes available after he joins the party near Ralsei's castle during Chapter 1.

DualHeal

DualHeal is a powered-up version of Heal Prayer that Ralsei can cast via Kris's ACT menu. It heals the entire party a significant amount, and is only available during the battles against King, Queen, the Titan Spawn, and the Titan.

During the battles against King and Queen, it costs 50% TP. In the battles against Titan Spawn and the Titan, it costs 16% TP and weakens with each use.

Pacify

Pacify is a support spell. It costs 16% TP to use and spares one TIRED enemy, removing them from battle. Pacify fails against any enemy that is not TIRED. It becomes available as soon as Ralsei joins the party in Chapter 1.

ReviveSong

ReviveSong is a support ACT that costs 84% TP and becomes available in Chapter 5.

Unique R-Actions

Unlike the usual R-Action, these Actions have unique names and effects, but are only available versus select bosses:

FluffyGuard

FluffyGuard is a defensive R-Action costs 16% TP.[2] Using it summons two orbiting shields (called "fluff balls" or "tiny Ralsei") that spin around the SOUL. The shields block almost any projectile that comes into contact with them, but they take damage in the process. Up to a maximum of 4 shields can be active at the same time. Holding down the "[CANCEL]" button makes the shields stop moving, effectively sacrificing the SOUL's movement speed for more consistent protection. It is exclusive to the battle with Spamton NEO in the basement of Queen's Mansion during Chapter 2.

LightUp

Using this act costs 1% TP, and causes the SOUL to emit more light in the Jackenstein fight.

ReviveKris

ReviveKris, referred to as "Reviver" in flavor text, is a support R-Action that costs 16% TP. It revives Kris at a third of their HP, or heals them by half their max HP if they are not downed. Upon using it, a small angelic Ralsei appears and pets Kris on the head to heal them, similar to Spamton's "[Press F1 for] HELP" Easter egg. It is exclusive to the battles against the Titan Spawn and the Titan in Chapter 4.

Noelle

Noelle battle spell.gif

Noelle's spells are ice-themed and a mix of attack and support spells.

Heal Prayer

Heal Prayer is a spell available when Noelle joins the party in Cyber City during Chapter 2. It functions identically to Ralsei's Heal Prayer, costing 32% TP to use.

Sleep Mist

Sleep Mist is a support spell that becomes available when Noelle joins the party in Cyber City. It costs 32% TP to use and spares all TIRED enemies. Sleep Mist fails against any enemy that is not TIRED.

IceShock

IceShock is an attack spell that becomes available when Noelle joins the party in Cyber City. It costs 16% TP to use and deals moderately high damage to one enemy. Upon defeat, the spell freezes the enemy in place. To initiate and progress the Weird Route, each enemy in Cyber City must be defeated using this spell.

SnowGrave

SnowGrave is an attack spell that becomes available during the battle against Berdly on the Weird Route. It is only usable if the ThornRing is equipped on Noelle, at which point it costs 100% TP to use. It deals extremely high damage to all enemies. If used against Berdly, it encases him in a block of ice. This is necessary to continue the Weird Route.

Unused spells

Rude Sword

Rude Sword is an unused spell that deals moderately high damage to one enemy. It costs 50% TP.

None

None is an unused spell that costs -0.4% TP. It is an error handler spell that is used whenever the user does not have a spell, or when they have an invalid spell.

Due to its negative TP cost, using it restores 1% TP, and repeats the last line of dialogue. If an ACT or item is not used before using None, or two ACTs are used, the game freezes.

It has no flavor text or name in the spell menu or the POWER menu.

Supercharge (old)

Using this ACT causes the SOUL to shoot auto firing arrows. The arrows home into almost any shootable object with the exception of a few; they are also capable of homing backwards. The SOUL can still fire normal shots while the arrow is active.

Fluffy Guard (old)

FluffyGuard battle old bubble.gif
The bubble

Using this ACT spawns a bubble around the SOUL which reduces damage taken and negates projectiles, though after 10 projectiles negated, the bubble will disappear. Using this ACT also causes the damage sound effect to be changed.

Strangely, the sprite for the bubble is called spr_queen_winebubble_edit2.

Trivia

  • Even though ACTing is not magic, there is an unused spell version of ACT that costs 0% TP. Using it freezes the game. This is presumably the version that is used when viewing it through the POWER button on the menu.
    • The flavor text of this spell version in battle is "Use action".
