Noelle's House

From Deltarune Wiki

Here's my house! Umm, sorry, it's not much, but...

Noelle, Chapter 4

Noelle's House[1] (JP: ノエルのいえ) is a three-story mansion on the far-northwest side of Hometown. Noelle and Carol are its current residents; Dess and Rudy no longer live there due to being missing and in hospital care respectively.

It is accessible in Chapter 4 after Susie convinces Noelle that she and Kris can go there to work on their school project. In PS4/PS5 versions, any damage that occurs applies to achievements. Events that occur in Noelle's House differ on the Weird Route, which is continued through Completion FILEs.

History

Years prior to Deltarune, Noelle accidentally got locked out of her house, which caused her to often stay at the Dreemurr residence. Thus, Kris helped Noelle break into her own room.[2]

Chapter 4

When Noelle brings Susie and Kris inside, Susie insists on searching for the shelter code, which confuses Noelle. Unable to find it, Kris, Susie, and Noelle settle in the living room to start their project. Noelle suddenly receives a phone call from Berdly, who asks her to go to the festival with him. Susie abruptly steals Noelle's phone to refuse on Noelle's behalf and then throws it away.

Susie advises Kris to find the code as she distracts Noelle. Kris enters Dess's room and discovers the code in her guitar. However, when choosing to take the guitar, Kris instead rips out their SOUL as the numbers "1 2 2" are read. Kris then goes downstairs and throws the SOUL inside a lidless gift in the Gift room.

By pushing a large gift, the SOUL escapes into the vents. Kris can be found in the kitchen, where they pour and drink chocolate milk. As this occurs, Kris leaves their Cell Phone atop the table. On Kris's phone, a caller vaguely describes events, such as emphasizing that Susie should not see the code, or mentioning Kris, the SOUL, the Dark World, and the church. Afterwards, Kris lets their head fall on the counter.

Eventually, the SOUL reaches the basement via the southern vent, where it cuts off the power. Under the assumption that Kris is pranking them, Noelle and Susie enter the basement. Susie accidentally knocks over the Christmas tree, which causes the SOUL to be trapped under an angel doll. When the SOUL bumps into either of them, they panic. However, assuming it is a mouse, Noelle slides a pan under it. The two bring the angel doll to the living room, where she and Susie discuss what to do with it.

Noelle becomes embarrassed when she mentions her dream and makes up an excuse to leave. Susie follows after her. The SOUL escapes the angel doll and enters Dess's open room. Near the guitar, the SOUL gets stunned by a hockey puck that Kris threw. Kris crawls out from underneath Dess's bed and picks up the SOUL and guitar before hiding in the closet. Susie and Noelle enter the room to investigate the noise. Instead, the two choose to wait and have conversation in front of Dess's bed. The topics involve Ralsei, Cyber Field, Cyber City, Kris, some of Noelle's childhood memories, and Susie's tail.[3]

Inside the closet, the SOUL tries to reach Dess's guitar to alert the two, while Kris tries to stop it with a hockey stick. When the SOUL touches the guitar, Kris pounces on it, creating a loud noise. Realizing the situation, Susie opens the closet and takes the guitar from Kris. Despite Noelle recognizing the guitar, she says that Susie should play it. Susie complies, and suggests that they leave the room. Once the two leave Dess's room, Kris makes a call on their phone, exits the closet, and returns the SOUL to their body.

On the living room couch, Susie tries to play the guitar. Susie asks Noelle if they can spend time together tomorrow. Noelle reminds her that the festival is tomorrow, which flusters Susie. As Noelle asks if Susie would want to with her, Asgore turns on the lights and treats himself to the snack platter.

Asgore apologizes for eating the food, and contrary to Noelle's reassurance, Carol enters the mansion.[4] Upon seeing Dess's guitar in Susie's hands, Carol takes it. Not listening to Noelle, Carol orders her to go to the kitchen. Susie protests and admits it is her fault, and Carol coldly tells her to leave and to never talk to Noelle again. Susie rebels by shouting that she is taking Noelle to the festival before departing. Carol also orders Asgore to eat the platter outside.

As Kris is about to leave, Carol walks over and places a hand on their shoulder. Carol apologizes and states that "YOU are welcome here any time" before letting them exit. If the Santa figure near the entrance is active, Carol will instead tell Kris to turn it off before they leave.

Outside, Asgore continues to devour the snack tray. Susie complains about Carol's disruption, and noted that she felt the temperature drop when Carol entered. Asgore comforts Kris by patting their head and asks what the two will do next. Susie assumes they will return to the Dreemurr residence. Asgore offers Kris and Susie the platter, which they quickly finish.

As Kris and Susie leave the front yard, Susie admits that she saw the shelter code in the guitar. Reluctantly, Susie admits that they may have to try again tomorrow.[5]

Weird Route

When Kris, Susie, and Noelle sit down to start their study session, Noelle receives a phone call from her mother. After this, Susie requests that Kris go find some supplies for the project. This prompts Kris to explore the house. Kris finds the shelter code in Dess's guitar, but they rip out the SOUL as the numbers are read. Kris attempts to take the SOUL to the gift room, but they are stopped by Noelle. Kris hastily puts the SOUL in a drawer in the hallway before Noelle can notice. Noelle tells Kris that there is something she wants to talk about privately and retreats to her room. Kris continues to take the SOUL to the gift room.

By pushing a gift out of the way, the SOUL escapes into the vents and travels to Noelle's room. Kris and Noelle are in the room, and Noelle tells Kris she wants to talk to them about "last night". The screen fades to black, and Noelle recounts being unable to sleep from dreaming about the "snow" and being "terrified it was all real". Noelle goes on to say she went outside and found Kris's hand on her wrist. She had heard Kris's voice apologize for taking her Wristwatch and claims that it was a "stupid prank". She says that Kris put the watch back on her wrist and that Kris's voice assured her Berdly is going to get better and further apologized for "being weird" at the hospital. Noelle recalls that Kris's "deadpan, mumbly voice" sounded "weak and shaky" and that she felt as if she had not heard that voice in a long time and was happy to hear from them again.

Weird Route screenshot Chapter 4.png
Noelle questioning Kris's behavior, as me plays

Noelle asks if she can say something else, and the player uses the SOUL to make a choice to "Proceed". The SOUL re-enters Kris's body. Noelle informs Kris that the previous night, Kris also pulled a thorn out of her finger and said not to mention to them that they did any of this. Kris attempts to stop Noelle from saying any more. Noelle tells Kris not to relax and attempts to remind them that Kris was just worried it would get heard but that it was only Kris and Noelle in the room.

Noelle asks, "Who's going to hear?" Kris, under control of the SOUL, then responds, "Me", which causes the lighting to change and wind to blow against Kris's hair. Noelle notices that Kris's voice changed, and she asks Kris if it's another joke. Internally, Noelle thinks to herself that this is the voice from her "dream". Kris responds "Because it wasn't a dream"; Noelle is shocked that Kris heard her thoughts and scoots away on the couch. She begins thinking, "(There's no way they heard... my thoughts.)", to which Kris responds, "I heard". Noelle scoots farther and farther away and tells Kris she didn't say anything. She thinks it has to be a coincidence, but Kris responds, "It's not a coincidence". Noelle is stunned into silence. "(If you can... hear me...)" she thinks, "(Say 'red' or 'blue.')" The player can choose either "Red" or "Blue" as the response. Noelle thinks, "(Say... say... "it didn't happen." Say "it didn't snow.")" Kris responds with either "It snowed" or "It happened" to once again affirm that what she did the previous day wasn't a dream. Noelle, still speechless but communicating with the player via her thoughts, attempts to tell Kris that they're lying. Kris responds with either "Noelle will get stronger" or "Noelle becomes stronger". Regardless of the choice, Noelle physically responds again, "Kris, what did you say?" Kris prepares to equip the ThornRing onto Noelle's hand again. Noelle stumbles over her words, and Kris equips Noelle with the ThornRing.

Kris screenshot kicking SOUL.png
Kris repeatedly kicks the SOUL in the bathroom, as tinnitus plays

In the following scene, Kris throws the SOUL into a trash can in the bathroom of the house and begins violently kicking it. Asgore interrupts to inform Kris that Carol has arrived home and is asking everyone to leave. Kris puts the SOUL back in their body and gets up. The player is given back control of Kris, but Kris immediately falls down for a moment before getting back up. Exiting the bathroom brings the player back outside the house with no way to re-enter and talk to Carol.

If the player chooses to not re-enter Kris's body, Kris grabs Noelle and runs out of the room. Kris eventually returns and takes the SOUL back to the gift room. This aborts the Weird Route.

Sublocations

Front yard

The front yard is where Noelle waits after unlocking the locked gate. If Kris has taken Susie to QC's Diner, Noelle inquires why they took an unusually long time to arrive. Susie explains their brief detour to QC's Diner, which leaves Noelle perplexed before joining the study group. Alternatively, if Kris and Susie had the tea party in Ralsei's castle, Susie mentions the tea party, with Noelle being confused that Susie went to one.

Asgore can also be found outside once Susie and Kris are forced to leave. In console versions, the Hometown border fades in after exiting. If Kris approaches the front door, Susie suggests that they should not enter, as she noticed Carol is watching through the window. Kris can inquire Asgore about his outfit and if he is fine. If Kris steps on the platter, a splat noise plays.

First floor

Noelle's House location main.png
The main interior area of Noelle's House, showing the three floors and the living room

Upon entering the first floor, Noelle accompanies Kris and Susie until Kris agrees to spend time in the living room.

The first floor consists of various battery-powered antlered Santas which Carol purchased, a "holiday treat catcher" that resembles Snoopy, a thermostat with only cold as an option, and a refrigerator with water and vegetables. The far left of the floor also has a back door, though it cannot be opened.

After turning off the electricity, the SOUL is able to explore the floors. It can interact with various objects around the household, including the hanging bells, Santa figurines, and the holiday treat catcher, which whacks the SOUL into the floor.

After Carol returns, Kris can interact with any of the Santas before leaving. If any of them are still on, Carol alternatively pauses, and asks Kris to turn off the Santa to save batteries before they leave.

Living room

Gingerbread House soundtrack.png
Kris, Susie, and Noelle as she picks up her phone in the living room

The living room is a large area with three couches and a table with a snack platter in the center. Inspecting it causes Noelle to be embarrassed that she sliced the cheese into hearts.

After Susie tosses Noelle's phone, it can be interacted with, which reveals Berdly is still conversing on the phone. Kris can choose to agree to go with him, or sing the "wrong number song", a reference to a fun value event in Undertale.

When the SOUL is captured by Noelle and Susie, the directional Controls can be pressed as they converse to move the angel doll.

Kitchen

Noelle's House location kitchen.png
The kitchen

The kitchen features another refrigerator, a sink, an oven with one of Carol's katanas hanging, and a microwave. Nearby is a dining table with six chairs, a giant decorated Christmas tree, and a large white piano. Beside the microwave is a SAVE Point, as Toby Fox made an exception to include SAVE Points in the Light World after development testing.[6]

If Noelle is in the study group, she comments on various objects. Noelle explains that the katana is for cutting Rudy's fruitcakes.[7] She hesitantly admits that her family has a piano, though it has not been played in some time.[8]

If Kris is alone, the katana and the piano can be inspected. The option to play the piano appears, though Concert for you plays if "Yes" is selected.

After Kris removes the SOUL, the SOUL can enter the kitchen via the vent above the fridge. Kris can be found making chocolate milk with a bottle of chocolate syrup. The SOUL can interact with either the sink or the piano, which prompts Kris to throw the chocolate syrup bottle at the SOUL and stun it. Going in front of Kris also causes this, though being behind or near Kris causes them to jump toward the SOUL and grab it before returning it to the gift room.

If the SOUL returns to the kitchen a second time, Kris has closed the kitchen vent cover. If the SOUL idles, Kris eventually walks to the piano and starts playing piano renditions of some songs from Deltarune's soundtrack.

On the Weird Route, Kris is in Noelle's room, and as such, cannot interrupt the SOUL. Nothing happens, as the SOUL cannot meaningfully interact with anything in the room, and can only exit through the vent.

Gift room

Noelle's House location closet.png
The gift room closet

The gifts room is a small closet that consists of six empty gift boxes, with a large one in front of an air vent. When entering this room, Gingerbread House stops playing.

If Kris inspects the gifts four times, Noelle becomes confused and asks about it. Susie admits the area and vent is "sus", and Noelle compliments her "reference", alluding to Among Us.

After choosing to take the guitar in Dess's room, Kris instead tears out the SOUL and enters this room, then throw it into the lidless gift box. Once they leave, the SOUL can be moved up and out of the gift box to push the large gift box and leave through the vent.

Kris returns to this room a second time after catching the SOUL in the Kitchen. They close the vent and toss the SOUL into the lidless gift a second time, then stare at it for a moment before returning to the kitchen. Despite Kris closing the vent, it comes loose from the impact of them shutting the door and the SOUL can leave through it again.

Second floor

From left to right, the second floor consists of Noelle's room, Dess's room, and the bathroom. Between Noelle and Dess's rooms are Noelle's snowflakes, which were made in Toriel's classroom. Noelle explains that Carol had bronzed them, and recalls when she once remade a new snowflake for Kris in their youth.[9][10]

Interacting with the door to Dess's room will have Noelle state that guests are not allowed to enter the room.[11]

Noelle's room

Noelle's House location Noelle's room.png
Noelle's room

Noelle's room is the far-left door in the second floor. It features Noelle's homework desk, a flatscreen TV with a shelf of old game consoles, and a named Christmas cactus, a light blue Delta Rune mat, a large pink couch, Noelle's wardrobe, a calendar, Noelle's bed and trophies, a clock, and her computer. Inspecting Noelle's desk causes Kris to habitually pick up a Holiday Pencil without a prompt.

If Noelle and Susie are in the party, Kris can learn that the cactus was renamed from "Krismas" to "Tsuntsun" by Berdly.[12] Susie can inquire about the tattered, small angel wings in the wardrobe. Noelle recalls that during her childhood, she dressed as the Angel for the Holiday Pageant. She admits that she would often wear the wings out of fondness. Underneath Noelle's bed is a metal CD depicting Noelle in dark makeup. Inspecting it causes Noelle to explain that it is a custom cover Catti wanted for her CD mix.

Inspecting the computer causes Susie to suggest looking into it. The options include looking at Noelle's history, or "Cat Petterz 4". Noelle's history includes searching for paranormal, crime, and the skateboard game. Susie inquires about "Cat Petterz", which Noelle explains is a "pet raising game", which has a bug that causes "glitchy pets". Selecting that option again causes Noelle to admit she has removed some game modifiers.

When Kris is alone, the narration notes that Noelle's bed has ample space to hide underneath it. Kris can inspect Noelle's computer. Due to it rotating wallpapers, each inspection text varies. The wallpaper can depict Kris when they were young, Noelle and Dess, the Holidays spending time together in different festive scenarios, a snow-covered city, Dess with a cracked baseball bat, or a "green dog puppet" that is pointed out by Susie if Kris inspects the computer with her.

Dess's room

Noelle's House location Dess's room.png
Dess's room

Unlike the other rooms, Dess's room and door is a darker palette. Its interior is blue-ranged colors and shades of purple and stars on its walls, though there is no window. On the left side of the room is Dess's unplugged monitor and her collection of holiday movies, games, and horror related games. Dess's bed is unkempt with a pillow on the floor. Inspecting it reveals Dess has various sports and guitar picks stored underneath, including a drawing of a dragon.[13]

Dess also has a large walk-in closet, which has various band posters and "handmade posters".[14] In front of it is Dess's guitar, which has the shelter code inside it. Inspecting it causes Kris to remove the SOUL and leave the room. In console versions, the Hometown border fades out during this sequence. Inside the closet is a small set of various colored hanged clothes, drums, and a trumpet. There are also miniature Santas and a few gifts. Dess's closet has large piles of tennis balls, red heart-shaped pillows, and orange, Converse-style sneakers similar to one of the lights in the Queen's Mansion light puzzle.

On the right side of the room is a CD player. The cardboard box has various old objects, described as odds-and-ends. Asriel's retainer is also inside it. On the right wall is a dented violin, flute, and microphone strewn on the floor. Dess's wiffle bat and rollerblades are nearby them.

Noelle's House location Dess's room closet.png
Dess's closet

When the SOUL returns to Dess's room, Kris hurls a hockey puck at it when it nears Dess's guitar. They then take both the SOUL and the guitar into the closet. While Susie and Noelle converse outside, Kris attempts to hit the SOUL with the hockey stick to keep it away from Dess's guitar. To progress, the SOUL must distract Kris by brushing into the noisy Santa figurines to push away the tall gift. This causes Kris to use the hockey stick to stop the Santa figurines. Kris also pauses occasionally while eavesdropping. If the SOUL gets hit, Kris's HP in Hometown goes down. If Susie and Noelle's dialogue ends, after five swipes, Kris becomes too tired to attack.

After Kris informs the caller, they clear their contacts before reinserting the SOUL.[15] Kris briefly stumbles and falls when moving forward, and they can inspect the puck that they used to stun the SOUL. The distance between two stops playing in this room.

Bathroom

Noelle's House location bathroom.png
The bathroom

The bathroom is normally inaccessible, only seen via the vent. In the bathroom, Asgore can be seen cleaning the toilet. After conversing with himself, Asgore eventually exits the bathroom and goes to Carol's room.

In the Weird Route, Kris enters the bathroom to dislodge the SOUL after the events in Noelle's room, where they throw it into the trashcan and kick it repeatedly. Asgore calling from outside prompts them to stop and return it to their body. This is currently the only way to enter the bathroom, though nothing inside can be interacted with.

Third floor

The third floor leads to Carol's room. Nearby her door is a table with stacked red heart-shaped pillows with white frills. Noelle explains that Carol collects these pillows, though she is unsure of the reason.[16]

Carol and Rudy's room

Noelle's House location Carol's room.png
Carol and Rudy's room

This room is inaccessible and can only be partially seen via the vent.

The SOUL's glow gives a glimpse of the room's layout. It consists of a bed, a corkboard, and a bedside table with a vase. Lying next to the table is a sword's hilt, indicating that Carol owns at least two katanas. The full sword can be seen within the game files, though the majority of the room is still covered in darkness.

After leaving the bathroom, Asgore appears in Carol's room to look at the corkboard. He can be overheard talking to an "old friend" about how he will "prove [he] just wanted to protect everyone" and admiring the beauty of what seems to be a BlackShard.

Vents

Noelle's House vents map.png
A map of the ventilation system. The wavy arrows show air currents that push the SOUL

The ventilation system is accessible after Kris tears the SOUL out and tosses it in the gift room. These winding paths lead to openings in all parts of the house, allowing the SOUL to escape from the closet. Most of the vents are closed and cannot be passed; the only open vents are in the gift room, the kitchen, and the basement.

From the gift room's vent, an adjacent path south leads to the living room, while north is a branch with two paths, the west leading to Noelle's room and the east leading to Dess's.

East of the gift room is a second vent crossroads. Here, the south vent leads to the right side of the living room; the east vent leads to the kitchen, where Kris is; and the north vent leads to Carol and Rudy's room, which can only be glimpsed at.

In the kitchen vent section, going north leads to an air-conditioned path to the bathroom's vent. Going south leads to an air-conditioned path to the basement. Entering the basement renders the vents inaccessible, as the vent closes behind the SOUL.

Basement

Noelle's House location basement.png
The basement

The Basement is where the SOUL ends up after exploring the Vents, south of the Kitchen. It consists of assorted Christmas decorations, such as giant candy canes, wreaths, a train and railway, ornaments, and another Christmas tree. There is also a miniature Santa and bells that can be interacted with, making some noise. To the far left of the corner is a deflated ICE-E, which resembles the one that appears in Undertale's Dog Shrine. To the far left and upper part of the room is a large stereo.

Idling underneath Susie and Noelle makes them consider bringing up their adventure in the Cyber World, though they both decide against it. Interacting with the large stereo plays Lost Girl loud enough for them to hear in the living room. This causes Susie and Noelle to discuss Blood Crushers 2 after Susie makes a reference to it. The two plan to watch Noelle's box set of the Blood Crushers franchise at some point. Afterwards, Noelle brings up a horror web series[17] that both of them watch on her phone until the SOUL interacts with the breaker.

Hidden behind a tall gift next to the stereo is the breaker, which the SOUL can interact with to shut off the electricity. Noelle assumes this to be one of Kris's pranks, thus she and Susie enter the basement to fix the breaker. Moving the SOUL over the Christmas tree causes Susie to topple it, which makes the angel doll topper fall on top of the SOUL, hiding it.

While Susie and Noelle inspect the left room with flashlights, the two converse about Dragon Blazers until the SOUL nudges into either of them. Noelle mentions how "Dragon Blazers 2" has an "Evil Route", to which Susie admits she found it by accident as she chose to be violent by default.[18]

In the Weird Route, the basement vent is covered. Susie can be heard talking aloud as she searches for clues, but her effort yields no result. She wonders how Kris is doing with their search.[19]

While staying in the basement, mus_smile plays in the background, as it does near the shelter's doors. This sound plays at normal speed when attempting to make a Cell Phone call in a Dark World, and first appeared in one of Undertale's inaccessible rooms, room_gaster.

Trivia

  • When investigating Noelle's computer, Susie may comment on a "green dog puppet" desktop wallpaper. This is most likely a reference to the SiIvaGunner upload Field of Hopes and Dreams (PAL Version), wherein Noelle wears a hoodie themed after GIR from Invader Zim.[20]
  • While in the basement during Noelle and Susie's conversation, Noelle talks about a "guy who gets really mad about games" who made a "stupid horror series about a bucket with ICE-E's face trying to kill him". This is a direct reference to James Rolfe's Angry Video Game Nerd and Board James video series, specifically alluding to the Mr. Bucket episode.
  • Noelle's computer contains the game "Cat Petterz 2". A version of this game can be played on the Spamton Sweepstakes page at deltarune.com/rarecats.
  • When checking Dess's guitar in her room, the code reads "122", and cuts off before the whole code is read out. This closely lines up with "1225", the code used to enter gacharoom_unknown and to unlock the last Cold Place door.
  • Noelle's House contains multiple allusions to Homestuck:
    • Interacting with the metal CD underneath Noelle's bed will have her mention "going grimdark". This specific use of the phrase is likely a reference to the character Rose Lalonde.
    • Additionally, interacting with the snowflakes on the wall will have Noelle mention that her mother had them bronzed; this references Rose's mom, who had her own vacuum bronzed and put on display.
    • A katana proudly displayed in the kitchen, belonging to Noelle's guardian.
    • Several fancy Santas are found on display in the living room. These objects are recurring items within the MSPA franchise.
