I was running from Queen's control plugs, and got stuck up here.

Plugboy, Chapter 2

Sliding is a movement mechanic introduced in Chapter 1 of Deltarune. By sliding, the party is able to descend to certain lower elevations in the overworld.

Overview

After interacting with or walking into certain marked wall tiles, Kris and any party members with them will go down the slide to reach a lower elevation. Usually the player cannot control Kris's movement, but a small number of slides allow Kris to adjust their descent horizontally and vertically.

It is currently not possible to go back up a slide, meaning returning to higher elevations requires the use of either the Teacup rides in Chapter 2 or the ClaimbClaws in Chapter 4.

When the party goes down a slide, Susie and Ralsei will either follow behind Kris or go on ahead.

Hazards

Some larger slides that allow the player to control Kris's movement while sliding, will have hazards that can deal damage to them and the party. Kris's sprite will change during these sequences to appear as a silhouette with a red outline and the soul will become visible. If the soul is hit by a hazard, the party will take damage.

Main Story

Sliding is introduced shortly after Kris awakens in ?????? of the Closet Dark World, where Kris goes down several short slides before rejoining Susie. At the end of the cliffs, while being pursued by Lancer, Susie will descend a large slide and tell Kris to follow her leading to an extended sequence on a large slide where Kris must dodge oncoming bullets before the screen goes white and they arrive in Castle Town.

The end of the slide remains visible in Castle Town in later chapters. At the start of Chapter 2, Mr. Society floats up the slide to the top of the cliff, and the Shadow Crystal and associated boss items can be collected at the base of the slide if the player did not collect them after beating a Shadow Crystal Boss earlier in the game.

At the start of Cyber World, Kris and Susie go down several small slides before encountering Noelle and Queen. After reuniting with Ralsei, the party with go down a large slide while being attacked by Sweet, before reaching the main Cyber Field area.

There is a large slide later on in Cyber Field that must be ascended using a pair Teacup rides. Going down the slide lets the party reach a hidden Plugboy who can be spoken with to discuss their fear of slides.

After defeating Sweet Cap'n Cakes, there will be a final large slide without any bullets where they follow the party down. This slide leads to a fireworks display that the party can watch.

In Chapter 3, Kris, Susie and Ralsei go down a number of small slides in the couch cliffs while they discuss the festival.

In Chapter 4, the party travels down a number of small slides in the Dark Zone to reach Jackenstein. They are unable to to leave this area, until they acquire the ClaimbClaws from him.

Trivia

  • Thus far, sliding has only been present in the first new Dark World area of each Chapter, appearing in ?????? in Chapter 1, Cyber Field in Chapter 2, the Couch Cliffs in Chapter 3 and the Dark Sanctuary in Chapter 4.
    • The only possible exception to this rule is Chapter 4 if the Dark Zone is considered a distinct area from the rest of the Dark Sanctuary.
  • Despite having a sliding animation in later chapters, Susie uses her walk cycle animation when going down a slide in Chapter 1.
