Version differences

From Deltarune Wiki
(Redirected from Version Differences)

Deltarune has version differences, which are updates throughout its development. This can range from console differences, adding new content, patching glitches and visual errors, correcting minor typos, and more.

This page documents in the following order: Chapter 1 Demo, Chapter 1&2 Demo, and the paid release of Deltarune.

Chapter 1 Demo

Windows/Mac

The SURVEY_PROGRAM initial release on October 31, 2018.[1]

While the download links are no longer showcased on the official website, they still exist:

PlayStation 4/Nintendo Switch

Chapter 1 was ported to consoles on February 28, 2019. Minor changes were made.[2]

  • Added borders for console versions of Chapter 1, illustrated by Temmie Chang.[3]
  • Changed "Kris got the Hot Chocolate." to "You got the Hot Chocolate.", matching other item acquisition text.
  • Added a version number.
  • Miscellaneous fixes and typo corrections.

Exclusively on Nintendo Switch:

Chapter 1&2 Demo

Windows/Mac

v1.00

Initial release on September 17, 2021.[6]

  • The "A perfect 10!" Pirouette versus Jevil heals 36-50 HP[7] instead of 20-40.[8]

v1.002

v1.002 added a question mark icon for unknown controller inputs.

v1.003

v1.003 fixed several crashes relating to game controller configuration on September 18, 2021.[9]

v1.004

v1.004 fixed several miscellaneous crashes and softlocks on September 19, 2021.[10]

v1.0.5

v1.0.5 was released on September 21, 2021.[11]

  • Added an option to give up during the GIGA Queen battle.
  • Added several autosaves, providing more convenient respawns upon getting a Game Over in certain places:
    • Before the Queen battle. This save also restores party HP.
    • Before the teacup ride in the Mansion Basement.
    • Moved the autosave before the Spamton NEO battle, now allowing Kris to not insert the Disk and simply leave.
  • Fixed a bug where Noelle would retain her SnowGrave spell if Berdly was spared in his Cyber City battle. Defeating him with IceShock or melee attacks still allows her to retain the spell, however.
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes.

v1.06

v1.06 was released on September 23, 2021.[12]

  • Allowed the Glass to properly appear in the inventory if Kris has a Shadow Crystal.
  • Fixed a bug where Sweet Cap'n Cakes's attacks could be extremely long.
  • Added an anger mechanic to the Spamton NEO battle. Firing many "big shots" by using the "[CONFIRM]" and "[Enter]" keys at the same time now causes Spamton to turn red, gain higher ATK, and cause some late fight attacks to occur earlier on.
  • Fixed an issue with warping to a room's default point if a room transition was only touched momentarily. It can still be triggered by holding "[CANCEL]" and "[MENU]" button; this was likely intended for speedrunners, who always hold these keys to skip text and run.
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes.

v1.07

v1.07 (v1.03 on console) was released on September 30, 2021.[13]

  • Added the functionality of holding "[CANCEL]" button during attacks to slow the SOUL, allowing for more precise movement in battle.
  • Defeating Jevil now gives a Shadow Crystal immediately, like Spamton NEO. New flavor text was added for using the Shadow Crystal or Glass in Chapter 1.
  • Added the ability to skip to the Cyber World using Kris's bed if Chapter 2 has already been completed, like Chapter 1.
  • Added dialogue if enemies were defeated violently in Chapter 1.
  • Slight changes to Spamton NEO's difficulty.
  • Improved "FluffyGuard", Ralsei's R-Action against Spamton NEO, by allowing holding "[CANCEL]" button to stop the ball's rotation.
  • Added the rare "Ms. Pipis" variant of the Pipis enemy.

v1.08

v1.08 (v1.04 on console) was released on February 23, 2022,[14] and retracted several hours later due to a bug.[15]

  • Added new dialogue after the Rouxls Kaard battle if Rouxls was defeated violently.
  • Fixed a bug where Ralsei would not snap desperately against Spamton NEO.
  • Changed the description of ACT in the Power menu in Chapter 2 from "Do all sorts of things. It isn't magic." to "You can do many things. Don't confuse it with magic."
  • Fixed a bug with interacting with rolling pots in Queen's Mansion: they now fly away along with their Swatchling rather than disappear.
  • Fixed a bug where orange or green Swatchlings would copy incorrect text in battle.
  • Changed Alphys's classroom in Chapter 2 to match Chapter 1 in coloration.
  • Fixed a bug where using Noelle's IceShock on one enemy and sparing the other would cause the encounter to respawn, allowing grinding for infinite AT/Magic.
  • Fixed a bug where Spamton NEO's final attack would not correctly display "WRECK", "PAUSE", and "SPEW".
  • Fixed a bug where the flag for giving a gift in Cyber City was always reset to 1 (given to Ralsei). Added a Susie plushie and dialogue if it is given to her.
  • Added a smoke effect after Spamton NEO's final attack.
  • Holding "[CANCEL]" button through the start of an attack no longer slows the SOUL, allowing it to be held constantly while remaining at full speed. Pressing "[MENU]" and "[CONFIRM]" button during an attack plays a sound and toggles SOUL-slowing.
  • Corrupted save files by offsetting room IDs.
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes.

v1.09

v1.09 (v1.05 on console) was released on February 24, 2022.

  • Restored all changes from v1.08 after its retraction.
  • Attempted a fix of the save-corrupting room ID bug; caused several other glitches.
  • Removed the SOUL-slowing toggle with "[MENU]" and "[CONFIRM]" button.
  • Fix a bug where the Chapter 2 Bed Inspector title was unobtainable.

v1.10

v1.10 (v1.06 on console) properly fixed the save file loading issues from v1.08 and v1.09[16] on February 25, 2022.

v1.12

v1.12 was available as a Steam beta on April 10, 2022.[17] It contained several bugfixes for the save system and running on Windows 7.

  • Fixed the game running on Windows 7.
  • Further changed the room system to better distinguish between Chapters.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would switch to fullscreen on the Chapter Select screen.
  • The cheese maze no longer appears after aborting the Weird Route, including the single cheese before the maze, making it impossible to use SnowGrave on normal enemies.
  • Fixed a softlock when Ralsei tries to ACT on a Maus as it is Upgraded.
  • Fixed a visual bug with GIGA Queen's speech before her battle.
  • GIGA Queen can no longer reuse her fire breath attack in place of her final attack.
  • Fixed a glitch where it was possible to walk out of bounds near the roller coaster cutscene.
  • Game volume is now consistently initialized as 60% of maximum, rather than 100% in Chapter 1.
  • The music now stops after Queen's dialogue if she was violently defeated.

v1.13

v1.13 was available as a Steam beta on April 12, 2022.[18] It contained more minor bugfixes, especially for the new room ID system.

v1.14

v1.14 was available as a Steam beta starting April 14, 2022. It contained more minor bugfixes, updating Chapter 1's loading system with the new IDs.

v1.15

v1.15 is available as a Steam beta since June 6, 2022.[19] It contained several minor bugfixes.

  • Berdly's weapon is drawn more consistently.
  • Fixed a bug where the cheese maze would immediately disappear if the Weird Route was started and ignored, but only aborted during the maze.
  • Fixed a bug where heightened invincibility frames could be retained from the King battle.
  • Fixed a rendering bug against GIGA Queen.
  • Fixed a rendering bug with a tile in Cyber City.

v1.16 (v1)

v1.16 was available as a Steam beta, separate from 1.15, as well as on itch.io on November 25, 2024.[20] It updated the GameMaker version to use a new method of delineating Chapters within the game data.[21]

  • Fixed Swatch using a beta overworld sprite in the Castle Town Cafe.
  • Removed a stray green pixel from Susie's hurt sprite.
  • Removed the drone sound from the Chapter Select screen.
  • Added hours to the save file display.
  • Introduced several bugs, mostly relating to GameMaker's updates. Most of these were fixed by v1.17.
  • Entering "GASTER" during the introduction sequence redirects the player to the start of the currently selected Chapter, instead of to the Chapter Select screen.

v1.17 (v2)

v1.17 was available as a Steam beta and on itch.io, replacing v1.16, on November 26, 2024.[22] It fixes bugs introduced by GameMaker's changes since v1.15.

  • Re-added the drone sound to the Chapter Select screen.
  • Fixed hours not appearing on the Chapter 2 English load menu.
  • Fixed a crash when giving a gift to Susie or Ralsei in Cyber City.
  • Fixed the elevator cutscene in Chapter 1 playing its elevator sound at a very low pitch.
  • Fixed a bug where skipping the Game Over screen in Chapter 1 would cause a dogcheck.

v1.19 (v3)

v1.19 is available as a Steam beta and on itch.io, replacing 1.17, since December 8, 2024.[23] It fixes an issue using full-screen when swapping Chapters with game_change, and updates the Chapter Select screen with more features. Toby Fox has noted there will likely not be another update to Deltarune unless GameMaker updates game_change.

  • Overall:
    • Potentially fixed an issue using full-screen when swapping Chapters with game_change.
      • This fix does not affect borderless full-screen.
    • Rewrote mechanism for recording attained Shadow Crystals.
    • Fixed displaying incorrect button glyphs when using a PS5 controller.
    • Reprogrammed the Chapter Select screen from scratch.
      • Chapters now show stars to indicate progress per save files; gold stars indicate a completed save file and black stars indicate save files which had completion data on them but were erased.
      • The bottom of the screen now has a language toggle and an indicator of attained Shadow Crystals per save file and Chapter.
      • Returning to the Chapter Select screen from within Chapter 1 or 2 skips the intro screen asking the player to continue from a given Chapter.
  • Chapter 1:
    • Fixed the SOUL escaping from the box during the Lancer and Susie battle when she gets up from being attacked.
    • Fixed a crash when using the ReviveMint on Susie after defeating King.
    • Fixed Jevil not having the correct text sound when receiving his Shadow Crystal.
    • Fixed a missing line of pixels on final image of the sepia intro.
    • Adjusted bottom collision for King's battle arena.
    • Fixed Susie flickering at the end of the Susie and Lancer battle.
    • Fixed the HP bars of characters not properly disappearing in the Starwalker room.
  • Chapter 2:

    • Fixed the game getting stuck when dodging bullets before fighting Sweet Cap'n Cakes after changing the system's audio settings.
    • Fixed the Egg unintentionally getting lost at the convenience store.
    • Changed the "Sleep Margin" to "30".
    • Fixed various sounds playing at incorrect pitches.

PlayStation 4/Nintendo Switch Demos

Deltarune Chapter 2 was released as a free update to Chapter 1 on PlayStation 4[24] and Nintendo Switch[25] on September 23, 2021 under the title Deltarune Chapter 1&2. While its v1.00 release predates the PC v1.00 due to testing requirements, later versions were synchronized with different version numbers.

There are two distinct versions of the Nintendo Switch demo: The version released in 2021 as its own title, and the version released in 2025 as the demo for the full game. The 2025 version has "Demo" in its title and icon, and Save Data is structured differently in the two demos, but otherwise they are identical.[26] The 2021 demo was delisted from the Nintendo Switch eShop on May 20, 2025, before the 2025 demo became available. The latest versions of both demos are labelled v1.06.

The following changes apply in the console versions:

  • At the start of Chapter 2, the LightCandy can be obtained as long as a Chapter 1 Completion FILE exists, regardless of whether the Chapter 2 SAVE file was continued from Chapter 1 (and regardless of Kris's actions in Chapter 1).

All Chapters

PlayStation 4/5

The game has achievements added to the game to comply with PlayStation requirements. There is also unique dialogue for earning no trophies.

On the PlayStation 5 version only, the game runs at 31 frames per second instead of the usual 30.

  • In Chapter 1, this causes The Legend to play desynchronized with the game during that scene. This is not a problem for music-synced events in other Chapters because those ones actually wait for the music rather than being manually timed to be synchronized.

The following changes apply in the console versions:

  • At the start of Chapter 2, the LightCandy can be obtained as long as a Chapter 1 Completion FILE exists, regardless of whether the Chapter 2 SAVE file was continued from Chapter 1 (and regardless of Kris's actions in Chapter 1).

v1.26

Added as of the v1.03 patch on July 22, 2025.[29]
