Unused music tracks

From Deltarune Wiki
(Redirected from Power of SPAMTON (Older))

Deltarune has a number of unused music tracks that do not play in-game, or are not featured in its soundtracks. Some of these tracks are left in the game files, while other songs were publicly shared by Toby Fox via social media posts or the official Newsletter.

Upcoming

stealth

Earlier, we were considering having a stealth-focused section in the game where you would slowly, slowly sneak around certain areas.
After developing some concepts, we realized a mechanic which basically just makes you move slower isn't necessarily fun.
So, we didn't do that...

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2023

Party overworld stealth.gif
Kris, Susie, and Ralsei sneaking

This track was shared in the ISSUE 4 - Autumn 2023 Newsletter as sneaking, and appears in the game files as stealth. It was meant to play for a planned stealth-focused backstage section in-between Board 3 during Chapter 3, but was scrapped. In the proper game, the sneaking sections were moved from the backstage to TV World and are very short bursts of speed, which is faster than running. This track's melody was instead integrated into Mike's themes. The Autumn 2025 Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter revealed this track will be used in Chapter 5 for a scene with the Mikes in Castle Town if they were fought in Chapter 4.[1]

Although its use of the Lost Girl leitmotif may imply the section had relevance to Noelle or Dess, Toby Fox has stated the leitmotif appears in situations unrelated to the Holidays.[2]

Shop 3

I looked through the soundtrack, and this is the only song that doesn't spoil something.
Most of the remaining shopkeepers in the game use this music.

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Winter 2025

This track is a variant of kris_piano_shop, a song that Kris plays on the piano in Noelle's House in Chapter 4. Toby stated that most of the remaining shopkeepers from the game will be using this theme.[3]

Shop 3 plays at 134 BPM with a 3/4 time signature, and is slightly slower and pitched down 4 semitones compared to kris_piano_shop.

The left-hand part of this song resembles Lantern's backing.

Within the game files

audio_menu

This track resembles an early version of Faint Courage (Game Over), the Game Over theme that first appears in Chapter 2. The filename indicates it may have been intended as Chapter 2 File Select theme before it was replaced with Faint Glow. It was only included in the Mac 1.00 version of the Deltarune Chapter 1&2 demo. Despite having an "AUDIO_" prefix, the filename is in lowercase, as all music files in Mac versions are.

cyber_battle

This track resembles an early version of Cyber Battle (Solo). This may have been the first arrangement of the song before it was arranged by Lena Raine.

Welcome to the CITY (cybercity_old)

This track is an early version of WELCOME TO THE CITY, which Toby Fox posted on Twitter 2 years prior to Chapter 2's release.[4] This version is in 160 BPM, while the used one (cybercity) is in 152 BPM.

noelle

This track features more instruments, and resembles an upbeat, early version of Girl Next Door, one of Noelle's themes.

spamton_house

This track is a variant of Digital Roots that is sped up and has the wind-like ambience removed. Its filename indicates that it was meant to play in the room outside Spamton's shop in the Trash Zone. It likely went unused as the room is small, and only a few seconds of the track would be heard.

static_placeholder

This track consists of static noises. The filename indicates that this is most likely a placeholder. The noise produced by the TV in Chapter 2's ending is titled tv_noise instead.

thrash_rating

The filename of this track implies that it would have been used in the Forest when Susie rates the Thrash Machine in Chapter 1.

field_of_hopes_preview_crisp

The filename for this track matches the formatting with the tracks used in the Rock Video minigame, implying Field of Hopes and Dreams was once planned to be playable in Castle Town in Chapter 4. Code also exists for it to be playable alongside a second audio file simply titled field_of_hopes_preview, which is the same but heavily compressed.

battle_preview_crisp

Ditto as above, but it is for Rude Buster instead.

This track is a less intense version of BURNING EYES, which has the filename nightmare_boss_heavy.

church_zone2_alt_longer_test

This track is an unused alternate version of The Second Sanctuary. The only difference is that the hi-hat is a little louder in the used one.

sinedrone_danger

This track is a short, quieter, slowed-down version of sinedrone_danger_high.

Danger Mystery (mus_undynescary)

This track which first appeared in Undertale as Danger Mystery, was meant to play during the cutscene where Carol tells Kris that they are welcome in Noelle's House.[5][6]

snd_choir

This sound effect was meant to play when using the organ in the Dark Sanctuary.

wet_tapdancing

This track was presumably meant to play when Tenna is tapdancing.

wet_tapdancing2

This track was presumably meant to play when Tenna is tapdancing.

wet_tapdancing_failed

This track was presumably meant to play when Tenna is tapdancing.

Outside the game files

Unused music tracks that have been publicly shared via Toby Fox's social media posts, Newsletters, such as ISSUE 7 - Autumn 2024,[7] or during Undertale's Anniversaries. This is due to Toby Fox considering Undertale's anniversary a day to also celebrate Deltarune.[8] See also: Deltarune's Anniversaries for Deltarune specific content.

Lost Girl (alternate)

Of course, that's not the only version of that song. Lots and lots of things happen. I just hope you can be friends with everyone someday.

Toby Fox, Twitter

This track was posted on Twitter for the 4th anniversary of Undertale, alongside Lost Girl and Welcome to the CITY (cybercity_old).[9] It is part of a longer alternative version of Lost Girl, featuring Susie's leitmotif, and an additional string and piano section.

UNDERTALE 6th Anniversary Stream

Scrapped tracks that were first shared during the pre-stream as "SCRAPPED DELTARUNE MUSIC", while the Annoying Dog sleeps. These are in the order of the tracks played during the countdown.

School (alternate)

I actually really like this arrangement. The only reason I didn't use it was that I was worried about overusing the main theme too much. Instead I decided to make a song based off of the town theme and use it for the school.
...What do you think?

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

This track was presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the first scrapped Deltarune track. It was scrapped as Toby did not want to overuse the Don't Forget motif, which is the main theme.

Checkerboard

Originally played in the Great Board area.
However, the area isn't very long, so I felt like if I played a song here, it would actually have the opposite effect of making the area feel disappointing if it had its own unique music but didn't amount to much.
When I have a song, I feel like I need to do the song justice by having a certain amount of content that goes along with it...

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

This track was presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the second scrapped Deltarune track. It would have played at the Great Board, but it was scrapped due to the area being short.

Epic Rouxls Battle/Rouxls Battle (Old)

I started to come up with an epic song for when you first battled Rouxls.
After starting the song though, I realized... He's not very epic at all.
Feels like if he had a song like this, you'd actually be able to defeat him in one hit.
So, I didn't do anything with this one.

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

I actually showed this one before. But the truth is that I had made it for Chapter 2 and not Chapter 1.
The song was way too serious though, so I had to make a goofier battle theme later.

Toby Fox, Autumn 2024 newsletter

This track was first presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the third scrapped Deltarune track, then included again Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] Although Toby originally stated it would have played for an encounter with Rouxls Kaard in Chapter 1, it was actually made for Floor 3F of Queen's Mansion, where Rouxls appears with the Thrash Machine in Chapter 2. It was scrapped for being unfitting and too serious, as Toby Fox realized Rouxls Kaard is "not very epic at all". Thus, it was replaced with It's Pronounced "Rules".

Character Joined (Long)

Originally played when Susie joined.
But it was awkward being frozen for ten seconds.

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

This track was presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the fourth scrapped Deltarune track. It would have played when Susie joined the party for real, but it was scrapped for being too long.

King Boss (Orchestral)

I only had the idea for the intro of the song, but it didn't feel like it fit too well.
So I only made forty seconds of it.

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

This track was presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the fifth scrapped Deltarune track. It was scrapped for being unfitting, and only the first 40 seconds of it were made.

Legend (Alternate)

I made like three different versions of the song.
This version was pretty good too, but the intro has the wrong atmosphere.

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

This track was presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the sixth scrapped Deltarune track. It was scrapped as the intro had the wrong atmosphere.

Fountain (unused)

I actually really like this song and wanted to use it to introduce a leitmotif, but I ended up using a more evocative song with a different motif. I'll try to make an excuse to use this song in the game somewhere.

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

This track was presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the seventh scrapped Deltarune track. It was scrapped, but Toby Fox has expressed interest in getting this song used somewhere in the game.

Game Main Theme (Piano Sketch)

The arrangement is really early, but I created this thinking of an animated intro for the game, similar to Wild Arms. I still see it in my head when I listen to the song.
The best part would have been at the end when everyone is running up the staircase as the silhouettes of the bosses from all the chapters show up, and the Knight, standing in a white door at the top of the stairs, turns around and looks down at them...

Toby Fox, Undertale 6th anniversary stream

This track was presented on the Undertale 6th anniversary stream as the eighth scrapped Deltarune track. It was scrapped for unspecified reasons. A shorter, more polished arrangement of the track was created by Camellia,[10] and was used in the Chapters 1-4 release date announcement trailer in the April 2, 2025 Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation.

Autumn 2024 Newsletter

Tracks shared in the ISSUE 7 - Autumn 2024 Newsletter, which is on Undertale's 9th Anniversary.

printer_noise

Printor was not used, but his sprite and dialogue were created, as well as a printer-based song that he could play? I just thought… there's too many NPC's already.

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2024

This track is an unused five-second track, included in the Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] It was planned to be used for a scrapped printer-themed NPC known as Printor. It is also noted that Printor's sprite and dialogue were already created before being removed entirely from the full release of Chapter 2.

Power of NEO (Unfinished)

After creating UNDERTALE, one of my goals for DELTARUNE was for players to finally be able to challenge a "real" version of Mettaton NEO that didn't just end in one turn. For that purpose, I actually created a few music mockups for an extended version of Power of NEO.

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2024

This track is an unfinished extended version of Power of "NEO" from Undertale, and was included in the Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] This track was one of the many mockups created with the intent of creating a "real" battle against Mettaton NEO that did not go down in one turn.

This never came to light, as Toby could never create a full-length version he was satisfied with. The boss concept and music eventually changed to involve Spamton.

Power of SPAMTON (Older) and Power of SPAMTON

Unfinished tracks. The drums are especially placeholder.
Once Spamton's presence in the NEO battle became solidified, I realized the original track wouldn't fit anymore. So, I tried to work in some more sinister and creepy feelings... That idea became this.
The two tracks are nearly identical, but the "newer" version has different drums and more elements of Spamton's theme in the intro. (It's also even more unfinished...)

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2024

These unfinished tracks were originally planned for Spamton NEO, and were included in Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] They were made as attempts to make a more sinister version of Power of NEO, to fit with Spamton's addition to the concept, but were ultimately scrapped in favor of BIG SHOT.

Spamton battle (forgotten)

Apparently this was the first concept I came up with for Spamton's battle theme. To be honest, I have absolutely no memory of this. When I found it in my files I was quite surprised. (Maybe Spamton made it himself...)
By the way, originally I was planning to have Spamton's intro song, "HEY EVERY  !", also be his shop theme. It was planned that it would slowly drop in pitch the longer you stayed in the shop until it was unrecognizable. But, that ultimately did not match the tone of the dialogue, so I ended up using Dialtone for that.

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2024

This unused track served as Toby's first concept for Spamton's battle theme, as revealed in the Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] Toby mentions he has no memory of creating this track, and that Spamton's intro song was intended to be his shop theme until it was replaced with Dialtone.

Giga Queen (Old)

The song that plays when Giga Queen first appears is actually…
A slowed down version of the original battle song I had created for her!!!
Though the instruments are placeholder, I actually think this song isn't half bad. Just, it didn't really sound much like a boxing match. After I created the Thrash Machine power up sequence beforehand, I decided to instead make a song based on that.

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2024

This track is the original version of Giga Size, and was included in the Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] The in-game version that plays when Queen pilots her GIGA Queen robot is a version of this track slowed-down by 3.8%.

Castle Town (Unfinished)

Originally I wanted the Castle Town to sound very upbeat, but something about it reminded me of like… That one Gotye song.
The melody of the initial parts ended up a bit too repetitive for me. I really like how the song sounds from 0:45.
The song is completely unfinished past 1:27.

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2024

This track is an unfinished version of My Castle Town, and was included in the Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] Toby originally wanted the theme for the area to sound very upbeat, but the result reminded him of "that one Gotye song". The melody of the initial parts were also noted to be too repetitive for Toby.

Queen Battle (Original)

I think this is my favorite of the unfinished tracks... At least, it's the one I listened to the most when I was working on the game.
Back when Queen looked more intimidating, I wanted to use this as her boss theme. Personally I still really like it, and I even wanted to try to use it for Berdly's battle instead... but the issue was that it just didn't match either of the theme melodies I had already created for those characters.
Bizarrely, I seem to have made this after already making her theme song, as an early version of her theme song is inside of the project file.
1:30 onward (piano only) is totally unfinished.

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Autumn 2024

This unfinished track was meant for Queen's boss theme, and was included in the Autumn 2024 newsletter.[7] It was created after Toby finished Queen's theme song. Toby originally intended to use it back when Queen looked more intimidating, and later considered repurposing it for Berdly's boss battle. However, the track did not match either of the theme melodies created for those characters.

Winter 2025 Newsletter

Tracks that were first shared in the UNDERTALE/DELTARUNE NEWSLETTER WINTER 2025 Newsletter.

TV Land (WIP)

Actually, I had started composing a totally different concept for TV World in 2018 that focused more on the motifs from the rest of the Chapter... but my friends' reaction to it was like "Yeah... sure... it's good..." so I was like... okay... fine... I'll go back to the original...
(note: this song is unfinished so don't take it seriously)

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Winter 2025

This track is an unfinished version of TV WORLD, and was included in the Winter 2025 newsletter.[11] Toby stated that it was created in 2018, as he wanted the track to focus more on the motifs from the rest of Chapter 3, but it was later discarded due to his friends' reaction.

Hammer of Justice (Piano Sketch)

(By the way, "Hammer of Justice" is another song I started making right at the beginning of 2016... I think the final arrangement is pretty good, but since I didn't create it for seven years, the original piano sketch is the main version that I remember)

Toby Fox, Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter Winter 2025

This track is the original piano sketch for Hammer of Justice, and was included in the Winter 2025 newsletter.[11] Toby stated that it was first composed in early 2016, making it the song's initial version before its final arrangement was completed years later.
