Deltarune Chapter 5, subtitled Festival Day (JP: お祭り, Romanized as Omatsuri), is the fifth Chapter of Deltarune, which released on June 24, 2026, as a free update to the full game.

This Chapter is primarily set in Flower Kingdom, a Dark World created in Flower King. Its main antagonist is Flowery, and its Shadow Crystal boss is Pink. The Weird Route continues in this Chapter.

Synopsis

The chapter opens with Kris emerging from their bedroom window. They retrieve the SOUL and leave their home to go to Castle Town. The residents of Castle Town are helping Susie get ready for her date with Noelle during the Festival. After leaving Castle Town, Noelle joins the party and the three visit the Festival.

After the festival, Susie and Noelle have a picnic beside the lake. Carol calls Noelle, before Susie interrupts, takes Noelle and carries her into the lake. They exit the lake, and Carol calls again, with Noelle mustering up the strength to refuse the call. Susie hesitates to say something to Noelle before going to get more ice cream. Noelle gets another call from Carol, in which she mentions Rudy having fallen down. Noelle leaves to see what happened, while Kris and Susie leave to go to Flower King. Kris waits outside as Susie enters, and as she exits the building, Kris rips out their SOUL, goes into the shop from the back door, and creates a Dark Fountain inside before Susie notices. Susie enters the resulting Dark World, with Kris following her just as they put the SOUL back.

Susie and Kris land in a field and find Asgore speaking with Flowery, a plant formed from the golden flower in Flower King. Flowery quickly befriends Asgore, before introducing himself to Kris and Susie. Kris and Susie find Ralsei in a wardrobe, which Flowery shoved him in. For the most part of the rest of the game, Flowery tries to prevent Asgore from seeing the party.

As the party ventures across the Flower Kingdom, they encounter six plants patterned after colorful flowers Asgore has kept maintained in the attic, formerly a part of a flower bouquet Asgore gave Toriel during their wedding. In front of Flower Castle, Asgore finally notices them and pushes them out into the Light World, although they return using the back door.

At the Top of Castle, the party fights Flowery and the six flowers with the new Orange SOUL mode. After winning, Asgore reveals that he blames himself for an undisclosed tragedy, and how his obsession with proving his innocence through the existence of Dark Worlds pushed away the rest of his family. Kris seals the Dark Fountain, but it is revealed that a second Dark Fountain was opened up beforehand, allowing the Knight to wound Flowery and abduct Asgore. After the second Dark Fountain is sealed, Kris is shown uncovering a Shelter code in Flowery's soil and tries to tear it apart, but Susie arrives and notices the code. Kris walks Susie to Castle Town (which she now calls home), where she urges Kris to bring Noelle with them in the future. After the credits, Susie is shown decorating the Castle Town for Noelle's arrival.

Weird Route

Kris does not wake from their bed and consequently misses the festival. Making their way outside, Kris meets up with Susie, who explains that she had participated in the festival with Noelle and that Noelle had asked Susie to come get them. Susie leaves Kris alone once they arrive at the lake after receiving Bread from Sans.

At the edge of the lake, Noelle confronts Kris about their behavior and explains that she herself had changed with them. Believing they can reach the other side of the lake, she guides Kris into the water and pulls them in with her. She and Kris continue walking into the lake until they are completely submerged underwater. At this point, the Chapter ends prematurely, instructing the player to "Insert Chapter 7 Side B" in a computer terminal-like screen before exiting back to the Chapter Select screen.

Release

Chapter 5 was released on June 24, 2026 and announced in a Nintendo Direct on June 9,[1] with its trailer edited by Everdraed, music performed by Carlos "insaneintherainmusic" Eiene,[2] and art created by Temmie Chang.

Shortly after, Toby Fox revealed in the DELTARUNE Chapter 5 Release Date Announcement newsletter that the Chapter would release worldwide on all platforms at June 24, 11:00am EDT, which it did.[3] A countdown was available at Deltarune's website until its release.

Upon release, Chapter 5 is immediately available to all owners of the paid version of Deltarune as a free update, and Chapter 5 will be included in all paid versions of Deltarune bought after its release for no additional cost to the game.

Prior to Chapter 5's release, Toby has occasionally shared minor teasers, centered around some of Floradinn's sprites, and some dialogue from Nubert, Jockington, and an Addison. He also teased an older version of The Sunset of 7 Suns, a decade old track that encapsulates his hope for this Chapter.[4][5]

Development history

Trivia

  • The fifth installment of the in-universe book series Lord of the Hammer is summarized by the Hammer of Justice as "Chapter 5, The Field of Pink and Gold. The vast garden is charred in an inferno of jealousy." This parallels the events of Chapter 5, as jealousy is a running theme:
    • Ralsei's rivalry with Flowery pushes the former to the point of using his fire magic for the first time.
    • The 7 Colored Flowers are jealous of Kris and Asriel's relationship with Asgore.
    • Flowery is jealous of the Castle Town dark fountain, as he and the other flowers are too fragile to bring there.
  • Chapter 5 seems to mark the last appearance of various events that took place every Chapter up until this point:
    • Seam mentions that this Chapter's Shadow Crystal boss is the last one.
    • Upon obtaining the Egg, Kris will feel as if they will not find the Forgotten Man again even if they looked. This lines up with his schedule only including 5 days.
    • Starwalker will mention how it has been a "long journey" and evolve into the "Final Starwalker", indicating this may be his last appearance outside of Castle Town.
    • After eating the moss, Kris's title and its description change to "Last Moss - A moss liker's final form", indicating there may be no moss to be consumed in future chapters.
  • Chapter 5 serves the penultimate Chapter for the Weird Route before the epilogue as it skips the current Chapter, Chapter 6 and opens a new path (in other words, a Side B) for Chapter 7.

10 years ago I made a song that sounded like this.
It's called "The Sunset of 7 Suns."
This is the hope for Chapter 5 from 10 years ago.

When I played this on the piano, my mom said "you know, usually songs do more than just repeat..."

Sorry Mom. Anyway, the version in-game sounds very different. Don't be surprised.
