Hi, Mist237. I hope you are doing well.
I noticed that the Russian Undertale/Deltarune Wiki uses many images downloaded from the English Undertale and Deltarune Wikis. Some of these images are simple sprites from the game itself. But in other cases, certain images have a great deal of time and effort placed into their creation; for example assembling battle sprites from multiple pieces and animating them can be complicated.
In the cases where the Russian wiki uses images from the English wiki rather than downloading the assets from their own game, I think it would be a good idea to include a link in the image description that leads back to the English wiki as the source. The link is unobtrusive, and it will make it clear where the original download is located at, giving credit to the creators of the image.
In order to ease the efforts, since at this point it has reached several hundred images, I would like to help by editing the image descriptions for prior image uploads. But I wanted to inform you first so it doesn't come as a surprise when I start editing the Russian wiki.
I also wanted to ask which of these formats is preferable since I'm not familiar with the Russian language:
[url]
атрибуция: [url]
источник: [url]
Please let me know which format is preferable. Thank you for your time! HylianAngel (talk) 23:53, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, HylianAngel.
- I got your message. I think you should use the "Attribution" template if you want to edit the image descriptions on the Russian Wiki yourself. This template contains links to the English-language Undertale and Deltarune Wikis as sources of original images. Mist237 (talk) 11:52, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- This template looks great! Could another parameter be added to increase the functionality? For example, it would be good to link to the corresponding file page on Undertale/Deltarune Wikis. So if they are on:
- https://undertale.fandom.com/ru/wiki/Файл:CH5_sisters_laugh.gif
- They can reach this URL much more easily:

- That way people can browse the file history for previous versions, or for a newer version, and it would give credit to the wiki uploader of the image as they are listed in the file history. This data isn't visible if the user lands on the main page.
- The one disadvantage is if a file is moved or deleted, then they will initially land on the wrong location. But I can help to update URL's when they change. Plus, landing on a moved image page is not much different from landing the main page, which will be a click away. It's much more difficult to reach the correct file page if the initial landing location is instead the main page.
- The extra parameter would also be helpful when the source isn't the Undertale/Deltarune Wikis. I noticed some of the other image uploads are from Spriters Resource. That way, creators on other websites can be credited too.
- Also, this might just be a Google Translate problem, but I think the text on the template needs to be slightly updated. The license should be "fair use," but it seems to imply that the copyright holder gave permission. In this case, they did not, but it should be permissible under "fair use." - Hello HylianAngel,
- We changed the template as you asked. You can use "fairuse" template!! Use this: {{fairuse|https://your/link/here}}
- So, yeah, the link will be displayed and now we're using the right license. MelT (talk) 07:16, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- It looks even better now! Thank you so much for all of your help on this matter. When I have free time, I will add the the template you've provided to the files that could utilize it.
- Have a good day, MelT and Mist237. HylianAngel (talk) 08:29, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- One other question, is there a preference between https vs. http? I plan to do "https," but I saw here that https -> http. I want to make sure I do the desired formatting before editing many file pages. HylianAngel (talk) 10:41, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- We prefer to use "http" because it makes the link shorter, but if you prefer "https", you can use it. Mist237 (talk) 10:51, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- The best option would be if you do the following:
- == Лицензирование ==
- {{Fairuse|http://your/link}} Mist237 (talk) 10:54, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- Sounds good! HylianAngel (talk) 21:58, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
