WELCOME TO THE CITY

From Deltarune Wiki

You have neither fluffy boys nor mean girls with you now.
Reluctantly, you are filled with the power from the cat sign.

SAVE Point text, Chapter 2

WELCOME TO THE CITY is the 17th track of the DELTARUNE Chapter 2 OST. It plays while traveling through Cyber City. This track's name is also written as "Welcome To The City" in Sweet Cap'n Cakes's music shop in Castle Town.

On the Weird Route, WELCOME TO THE CITY is replaced with cybercity_alt after obtaining the FreezeRing.

Creation and development

An older, faster demo of this song called cybercity_old can still be found in the game's files. It was initially teased by Toby Fox via Twitter on Undertale's 4th Anniversary.[1]

Trivia

  • The in-game music file is slightly faster, at 152 BPM, but is played at 97% speed to roughly match the OST.[2][3][4]
  • This track is interspersed with the dog and cat sounds from the Mario Paint soundfont, along with the MeowSynth synthesizer, which reflects the Annoying Dog and cat signs in Cyber City.
  • This track's Weird Route counterpart, cybercity_alt, is a slower and stripped-down version of the track. This version removes several parts of the track's instrumentation, such as the animal sounds, and the melody does not progress past the normal track's intro. It is much slower in the game files, though it is played 20% faster in-game[2] to sound closer to the normal version's BPM.
  • WELCOME TO THE CITY has a very similar melody to 74, a song collaboration released in 2018 by Toby Fox and Itoki Hana.[5] It is unknown if this similarity was intentional.
