Difficulty also known as the special variable is a hidden mechanic in Deltarune. It alters attacks to different, usually harder versions of themself and is usually used when a boss goes into a phase, but it can be used for normal enemies.
These are attacks that are affected by difficulty.

Difficulty 3 spawns the trucks in the same way as difficulty 2, but without the red heads. Difficulty 4 spawns empty columns with no heads, making it impossible to dodge. |

Difficulty 2 makes 1 sword fall and then traps the player in an empty attack for 277 hours (999999 frames). |
