When a new chapter releases, there's such an incredible amount of content that it's quite difficult to discern what is important stuff and what is not. In due time, we'll figure out points of interest, but there are always things that really stick out on a first playthrough. These are the things I'm thinking about, theory-wise, after a first playthrough, without much time to review everything. I'm not even comparing what I've noticed to other people: these are MY first impressions.

There WILL be spoilers, since what I'm talking about is only going to get less and less spoiler-y over time. The save I used was created in Chapter 3, though I did have the Jevilstail thanks to Castle Town. I feel like I interacted with most things, and I was able to get the Shadow Crystal of the chapter. I was not able to find the egg man. I also played on a Weird Route save, to the bitter end.

Theory Report

Theories that go unmentioned are one of three things: no new evidence for or against them was introduced, making them neutral; I did not come across or realize something was evidence for that theory; I just don't know the theory.

With the reveal that the Knight was present and responsible for the disappearance of Dess, it makes it highly unlikely that she was the Knight (unless you introduce time travel), and Rudy and Carol Knight theories leaned very heavily on the idea of saving Dess (unless you introduce the idea of a second Knight). Papyrus Knight falters in the face of the Knight having been around back then, and with him being new to the town, he wasn't around for it. Asriel was a child when the Knight did his stuff in the Dess disappearance. The Vessel is kinda implied to have been created shortly before the events of the story, but if you assume Toby's misleading us and the Vessel's actually been around a long time, it's possible they were around back then. This doesn't really change much for Gaster and Darkner Knight theories, with them winning from the lack of alternative candidates, and I put New Character Knight as the winner because I got the impression that it was the direction the narrative was going in, though realistically, it's similar to Gaster and Darkner Knight.

Asgore being removed from the force over the Dess case

Maybe this is an obvious thing to mark as "confirmed", but half the playerbase thought Dess Knight was obvious. More specifically, he seems to have witnessed a Dark Fountain, and got so wrapped up in conspiracy that ended up taking over his life.

Weird Route ending Chapter 5

Confirmed, kinda

I really didn't think this was going to happen, but it happened. Either you stick to your guns and you get an end with a weird Gaster-ism, or you semi-abort it and kinda gaslight Noelle? It's very weird.

Sans Undertale is Sans Deltarune

Win

Sans asks Susie to make a drawing of her friends for ice cream, a drawing that Sans keeps. This is probably the drawing Sans kept at the back of his photo album in his workshop in Undertale, as they're both described as poorly-drawn. Interestingly, you're still required to interact with Sans in the Weird Route. Susie will be like "let's get ice cream before we go to the lake". This raises the question of what's Hometown's reaction to Kris and Dess drowning, if Sans is presumably still able to go on to Undertale.

FRIEND anything

Lose

FRIEND has still done nothing, which leaves them with two chapters to do something. I've always been a FRIEND hater, and my hating stays real.

Kris/Carol/Knight alliance

Now knowing the Knight was somewhat responsible for Dess's disappearance, Carol is way less likely to be working with the Knight. I think this might be a case of double trucies.

Kris is still willing to rip up helpful material, so they're still probably working with the Knight to some degree.

DELTARUNE was made by Gaster

Win

The very digital appearance of the bitter end of the Weird Route seems to suggest that Deltarune is an application of some kind, which theories in the past have considered as a possibility.

Dess possession

Giga dead

Dess isn't the Knight, and even if they were possessed, Dess's consciousness would've been able to gain control of the body.

We got a lanky cowboy. Even if it was by means pretty different from as theorized, we still got a lanky cowboy.

Kris is patience kid

You think it's deconfirmed as you play through the chapter, and then you realize the flowers are completely different. Cyan does draw attention to the fact they're the same color and carry knives, though. I think Toby is trying to make it a little more obvious to the average player that they're one and the same.

Asriel is dead

I dunno exactly what this theory posits, but Asgore mentions wanting to do something with Asriel when he comes back next week. Maybe I shouldn't've included this one.

Secret bosses introduce Undertale soul modes

Win

Purple soul makes a return in Mad Mew Mew's fight. I wonder if the fight uses the Joy-Con soul on the Switch version of Deltarune?

Darkness underground

Win

This is a bit of a weird one, but there was an idea that darkness comes from underground. Like, to make a fountain, you stab the earth, from which darkness flows out. I don't have the transcripts for the chapter, but I recall some dialogue along the lines of "something dark lies beneath this town". And while this could just be referring to the shelter, the "shelter" and "underground" could be one and the same.

New evidence

Ralsei's strength

Flowerly keeps alluding to the idea that Ralsei can do the same things he does. The idea that items can choose what their Darkners are. I'd like to see more info about this in the future.

Possession lightners

Mad Mew Mew is a ghost possessing a doll, and Ralsei makes a point about how the ghost entered the Dark World, but her (it? their?) body also entered the Dark World and became a Darkner. And so the ghost of Mad Mew Mew and the body of Mad Mew Mew are two consciousnesses occupying the same body, and have to fight over control for the body. At least until Kris and co. get the two to reconcile at the end of the boss fight. This feels like an interesting concept that could be used in the future chapters, though maybe this is just a one-off thing.

Undertale Souls

Perseverance and all the feelings are present in Deltarune. It's a cool parallel, yeah, but why is it in Deltarune? The flowers are just different colors. How do they end up getting their emotion?

Conclusion

I'm realizing that maybe I didn't pick up on that many things. Oh well. That's what the next year of Deltarune theorizing is for. TheFlamingX (talk) 19:22, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
