Chapter 4

From Deltarune Wiki
(Redirected from CH4)

Deltarune Chapter 4, subtitled Prophecy (JP: 予言), is the fourth Chapter of Deltarune. It was released alongside Chapter 3 on June 4, 2025 for PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, and on June 5, 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2.

This Chapter is primarily set in the Dark Sanctuaries, a set of three Dark Worlds created in the church. Its main antagonist is the Knight, and its Shadow Crystal boss is the Hammer of Justice. The Weird Route continues in this Chapter.

Synopsis

The morning after Kris and Susie seal the Dark Fountain in the Dreemurr residence's living room, Toriel invites Susie to attend church service. There, Kris and Susie ask townsfolk for clues regarding the shelter and conclude that the most likely source of information is Noelle's mother, mayor Carol. They convince Noelle to invite them over to her house for a study session so that Kris may investigate the house while Susie distracts Noelle in the living room.

In Dess's room, Kris finds a note inside her guitar with a code to the shelter. However, Kris rips out their SOUL before the player can fully read it. The SOUL, locked inside a spare room, enters the house's vents to find Kris taking a phone call from an unknown person instructing them to prevent Susie from finding the guitar. Although Kris fails, Carol returns home before Susie can read the note and expels her from the house.

The duo return to the church to wait for Toriel, but they instead discover a new Dark World has taken form inside. In the Dark World, the Dark Sanctuary, Kris and Susie find numerous glass tapestries depicting the prophecy. Upon reuniting with Ralsei, Susie notes that his behavior is remarkably different than usual, which he repeatedly dismisses. They meet the Old Man, who acts as a mentor to Susie and assists the party in many ways, leading to them encountering the Knight. Despite the party's efforts, the Knight escapes through a Great Door before they can catch up with it. The party decides to seal the Dark Fountain and regroup at a later time.

However, after doing so, Kris and Susie find that there is another Dark World in the church behind a locked door. Looking around the church for the code to the door, Susie discovers that the Old Man is actually a Darkner created from mementos of Gerson, a renowned author, teacher, and the deceased father of the church's priest. In hopes that the Old Man can help them unlock the door, Susie creates a new Dark Fountain.

While searching for the Old Man in the 2nd Sanctuary, Kris and Susie are ambushed in darkness by the Sound of Justice, a shrouded figure they both believe to be the Old Man. The two are saved by Ralsei, who destroys the figure. He explains that the hostile Darkner was a statue replica of the Old Man, and that Gerson's remains were incompatible with Susie's Dark Fountain. When Susie confronts Ralsei on his prior behavior, he tearfully admits that he knows everything about the prophecy, including how it ends, but does not know what would be appropriate to disclose. The two subsequently make up, with Ralsei promising to be more honest, and learn the code to the church door from a Darkner formed from a fire extinguisher.

After sealing the 2nd Sanctuary Fountain, Kris and Susie return to the Light World and unlock the door to find the Knight in the 3rd Sanctuary. The Knight, confronted by the party, creates another Dark Fountain, resulting in the formation of a Titan, a harbinger of the Roaring. The party defeats the Titan with the Old Man's assistance. Susie runs ahead against Ralsei's protests and finds the final part of the prophecy, which she destroys shortly before the player can read it. Susie assures Ralsei that none of them would allow the prophecy to come to pass.

Kris seals the 3rd Sanctuary Fountain and returns with Susie to their house. They find Toriel inebriated and dancing with Sans in the living room. Toriel explains that she had cancelled choir practice and was never in the church. Toriel's behavior prompts Susie to leave. After Kris goes to bed and unsuccessfully tries to sleep, the phone rings and the caller reminds Kris of a promise they had made.

After the credits, the voice addresses the player, complimenting them for reaching the halfway point, before stating that they are still waiting for something, ending their speech by asking "HOW MUCH LONGER NOW...? MY DELTARUNE."

Weird Route

If the Weird Route was completed in Chapter 2, it can be continued in this Chapter. When Kris and Susie are investigating the church for clues about the shelter, Noelle invites the two over to her house to study. Later, after Kris rips their SOUL out, Noelle - who is not being distracted by Susie - invites Kris to her room to talk privately. Once the SOUL reaches Noelle's room through the vents, a choice prompt transports it into the room. The player then regains control of Kris and directs them to forcibly re-equip the ThornRing to Noelle. Kris and the rest of the house's inhabitants are directed by Carol to leave shortly afterward.

Following the Chapter's events in the Dark World, Kris receives a call from Carol, who claims that Noelle is looking forward to meeting them at the festival tomorrow.

Trivia

  • Chapter 4 is the first Chapter to:
    • Contain SAVE Points in the Light World.[3]
    • Involve more than one Dark Fountain being sealed.
    • Involve two Dark Worlds created at the same Light World location (Dark and 2nd Sanctuary).
  • The fourth installment of the in-universe book series Lord of the Hammer is summarized by the Hammer of Justice as "Chapter 4, The Trials of the Holy Hammer. A great smith gives the heroes a terrible weapon." This parallels the events of Chapter 4; Susie is granted the JusticeAxe by the Old Man, who was a smith by trade, after defeating the Hammer of Justice.
  • The events of Chapter 4 likely take place on a Saturday, based on dialogue from the Forgotten Man[4] and Susie.[5]
    • Chapter 3 and 4 are the first two Chapters to take place on the same day.
